We met a couple that had their bikes stolen off the back of their camper which they had locked up . The thefts cut them the cables they had attached. They bought new ones and said they put them inside and put an alarm along with cameras so they can see if anyone is breaking into the camper..I thought that was a good idea. I wished them luck.

I use a older Corbalink lock that I use on my motorcycle. 3/4 inch dia. 6 ft. long it is a little heavy but I can drape over my shoulder. The best theft protection is to take your seat and post out and the collar and have detachable pedals and yes take the battery out if you can't lock the battery. On your seat post mark or wrap duck tape or add a stopper on the post so you don't have to keep on readjusting the seat. Had my last bicycle stolen forty years ago. But without the seat and no pedals no one is going to take your bicycle.

@paulenright2 жыл бұрын
Another informative video! Like you and so many others the ebike has become almost a daily replacement vehicle for our car. So keeping it safely stored and locked up the grocery store has become a regular routine for Janice and myself. The U lock is also are go to favorite however, I also like throw on a cheaper combination lock as I figure it might be one more frustrating thing for a thief to deal with. As a side note we've been having so much fun scooting around town picking things up on our ebikes we recently added a bike trailer. Great for groceries and have even ridden out to a local Provincial campground for a overnighter via old rail trail. (as inspired by your river side ebike camp video👍) Now doing some research on flexible 100w solar panel for bike trailer "Burley Bee" paired with portable power station. The hope is to charge ebike batteries on route along with other bits and perhaps go a little further a field! Any how my wife thinks I'm a little nuts but she seems up for it just as long as nothing breaks down to often she's good to go! any tips tricks or possible rig set would be much appreciated. Thanks again R/L and gang for continued excellent content and inspiration🎥🤙🤙

Thank you! He suggested a better model of the Kryptonite chain lock that I featured. My take on bike locks is that a thief isn't going to pick the lock, because any thief that well trained isn't going to be stealing bikes, and they're just going to grind through the lock. Best to get the fattest lock you can and maybe even use several.

Like you said, with a angle grinder within a minute your bike will be gone. A hidden gps tracking device can be detected with a gps detector. When your bike is out of your sight for too long, that is when it becomes dangerous to be stolen. Like the old saying goes, locks are put on for honest people. I guarantee you a thief will figure a way to get anything. One good way to find out how good locks are for your house or regular padlocks is to go on line and see how easy it can be bypassed. Take care and stay safe.

My neighbor bought the Magicycle step over and it was too big for him, he owed me some money, so he gave it to me for 500 bucks, only had 25 miles on it..I like it, but it didn't compare to my home made mountain bike(Trek Fuel EX-5) with the Bafang mid drive, max1750 watts, as far as torque and speed..So I put another 750 watt motor on the front wheel, another battery, put on a cloud 9 seat with suspension post, raised the handle bars, got rid of all the Magicycle branding all over it, put chrome lettering on the battery that says, "Outlaw edition" with a chrome skull, with blue glow in the dark flames all over it, goes almost 40 mph now, just finished it today..It's just as fast as my Bafang now, comfort cruiser with balls..I don't use locks, you'd have to be pretty stupid to steal from me...Of course the whole country is full of stupid...A cordless grinder will defeat any lock in seconds, of course grinding locks off in public will get you a room in the county jail...I just keep an eye on my bikes, like a hawk....

@realeyesrealizereallies68282 жыл бұрын
@@gonagain Thanks...I'm surprised you haven't built one yet, seems like that would be right up your ally..Find a bike you want to convert, mountain bike , cargo bike, road bike, comfort cruiser, get a bafang mid drive kit with battery from Luna Cycle, or Johnny Nerdout, I would avoid Amazon for motor and battery..Only takes an hour or so..The bigger the front sprocket, the faster high end speed, like 46-52 tooth, the smaller the sprocket like 36 tooth, the better hill climbing ability, but either way it will out compete a hub motor in speed and hill climbing...The Bafang system is refined and virtually maintenance and trouble free...But there are advantages to hub motors also, I'm a big fan of the all wheel drive hub motor Magicycle, I can use the front or rear motor only or both at the same time, I can keep up with traffic up to 35MPH, and climb any trail or hill..Car replacement with fun is always my main goal...Costs only 14 cents to charge a 1 kilowatt battery...
