It's fun to take your new E-bike and personalize it to make it more comfortable and useful to your style of riding. Here I take my Magicyle and add more carrying capacity to it as well as installing a new handlebar riser to fit me better. I include a detailed tutorial on changing a brake cable, which is something you'll need to know to service your own bike.

I had to make an 11 foot long throttle cable for my modified 67 Chevy van, that I put a V-8 in. To make a crimper, I used a piece of 1/8" thick steel, drilled a hole the same diameter as the end piece, chamfered both sides, so the inside hole was about 2mm. Then cut it in half with a hack saw. You put one half in a vice, facing up, put the cable on top of it, put the other half on top and whack it with a hammer, and then you have a nice, neat, professional crimp, that definitely stays put..

I ride a 20" fat tire folding bike and replaced my handlebars with a much higher one and, like you, I like the feel of the body position except I've found that it places a lot more of my body weight on the saddle -- especially on my tailbone (not my sit bones). My tailbone was aching after just a few miles of riding. So I built up the areas on my saddle under the sit bones with a few layers of carpeting so as to leave nothing of the saddle for my tailbone to sit on and my tailbone feels no more pain. Now I want to find a real saddle (to replace my frankensaddle) that protects my tailbone, but there are so many commercial saddles on Amazon that get bad reviews -- so it's hard to decide which one will do what I want. Perhaps I'll just order some padding riding pants and use my bike's stock saddle. We'll see. Hope your new handlebars done give you the same problem. Thanks for your nice video on your the MagiCycle.

Now you can install the larger rack on the back and saddlebags on each side of the rear tire. Bicyclists also use saddlebags on the front. As you know, for decades... the traveling cyclists are loaded for bear as they travel along their routes. I'm looking at an elite with a 1500watt motor for the same price. (Just under $1,700.00) one upgrade I want to do on my bike will convert the mechanical brakes to hydraulic brakes. Being, at least temporarily, disabled, I need every advantage I can get. Congrats on your upgrade. Nomad

@@gonagain I finally finished assembling my eBike. I figured I'd ride it while I'm healing from my major spinal "revision" surgery. I wanted to test ride it yesterday, but when I set the height on the seat and started thinking about getting on and riding... I thought about it again. It's a pretty tall bike and I'd have to come off the seat and put one foot down while leaning in that direction slightly. The eBike is definitely taller and heavier than any bicycle I've ever had. My specialist surgeon, who fixed my spine about three weeks ago, said "No!"... when I asked about physical therapy. He said I need to wait 12 weeks to make sure my spinal fusion took. I started to get on my eBike but suddenly thought better of it. I can barely walk still... it's only been three weeks. If I fell for any reason, it would screw up my spinal fusion for good. After about sixteen months of the most mind boggling PAIN... I don't ever want that again so I'll avoid injuring it again by any means necessary. So, I had my neighbor test ride it for me. Now he wants one. lol (While he was riding across the field... his wife hollered over to me saying, "Now he'll want to get one too.") Sure enough... when he got back over to where I was... I could see the excitement in his eyes and on his face as he was now talking more enthusiastically about it. Telling me in minute detail of his experience riding it. (Even though he'd only been riding it for a few minutes. lol) Anyhow, it tested very well. Mine has a 1500 watt motor. Not 500 or 750 watt motors like so many other models I've seen out there. I can't wait to ride it myself, but... I don't dare ride it till my spinal fusion is well healed. After sixteen months of pure unbelievable PAIN... I want to avoid that like the plague. No more involuntary screaming and seeing light shows in my eyes from like lightning bolts going through my body making me instantly jerk around to a more neutral position. I'm not afraid of riding or falling off. I'm afraid of such incredibly unbelievable PAIN in my spine again from crushing my spinal nerves again. I can't wait though... to ride it and enjoy being more mobile and free again. It's been so long since I've felt good without being in such horrendous PAIN... it feels like it was in another life a lifetime ago.

ha ha....loved the last scene. Its Montana how about using that to showcase some tire chains for the bike. A buddy of mine showed these to me when he showed up at my place with his fat tire bike with chains on last winter. I wonder if they can be of any use on a muddy mountain trail ?
@gonagain
@gonagain 2 жыл бұрын
I think that the knobby fat tire does pretty good in mud on it's own, but those chains would help if it was really bad. after reading your comment, I watched a video on the Slipnot brand and they look good. That's a lot cheaper than buying studded tires and more versatile.

Some people will have issues with cutting the cable cover because you need a sharp pair of cutters to do the job. If you have a rotary tool (like a dremel) with an abrasive wheel you can make the cut without squeezing it and distorting the shape.

You did a fine job on the bike. I was wondering could you buy a bigger rack for the back. It would be good if a person could brace the front rack some how. Do you think it will hold much weight on the four bolts? It will be interesting to see if that works loose on off road adventures. Living where you do if a man could get a set of tires like the motorcycles do with the studs in them for racing on ice you could motor right on down the road. Good video, you take care my friend.
@gonagain
@gonagain 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Willis! I got the bike out today on the trails and it did great. The front rack looks to be well made and has a carrying capacity of 30lbs, but I can't see putting that much weight there. The 4 bolts screw into a plate that is welded to the frame and I think it's going to be strong enough. I don't care for the headlight being way out there and vulnerable and may go to a handlebar mounted one. You know, they actually make studded ebike tires and they're really expensive! I'm too much of a sissy to ride in the cold anyway.

Mostly I don't find it to be a problem, just different. Except for one thing; If you get attacked by someone's dog or have some other unexpected need to get going in a hurry, it's nice if you can just hit the throttle and go to max speed without having to change the peddle assist level first.

Hey Rick, I am wondering if you ever figured out why there are 5 different voltage settings in the voltage menu and why they are each adjustable. I have spoken to Magicycle and have not been able to get an explanation..
@gonagain
@gonagain 2 жыл бұрын
Hello James, I'm not totally positive, but I think it's because Magicycle doesn't make the display and it's designed to be used with other ebikes also. Just set it at 52volts and you'll be fine. Also, the amperage setting is 15amps from the factory and that works just fine. I know that can be increased up to 22 amps, but I'm not sure what the cost would be in battery and motor life. The bike has plenty of power as it is.

Rick you are doing things wrong ! just so you know i'm the owner of Vulture bicycles Wickenburg AZ. have been a bicycle mechanic for over 50 years. so when you put the stem on you tightened the center bolt like a old gooseneck, wrong that bolt is only for setting the tension on the bearings. so once you put tension on the bearing not to tight you tighten the 2 bolts on the stem, that clamps it to the fork. you need to re adjust the tension on your bearings.
