I’m actually a chemist at a tape company, and I can think of at least three major differences between clear and standard duct tape. One was mentioned in the video, acrylic polymer vs natural rubber. A second is that standard duct tape is “filled” with inert compounds like calcium carbonate and clay, which might have a drying effect on warts. Third, natural rubber isn’t, by itself, tacky. For a rubber-based adhesive to stick, it needs resin. This resin may be extracted from pine trees - perhaps something in tree rosin or turpentine could be effective in treating warts? A clear acrylic adhesive would not contain fillers (it wouldn’t be clear if it did) and acrylic adhesives are naturally sticky and don’t needed resins added to them. Whoever designed the double-blind studies should have done a little research on duct tape first 😂

Pretty sure the drying effect is countered completely by the tape trapping moisture. I think either the rubber or the resin is directly killing the wart or a more likely occurrence is it triggering an immune system response that then attacks the wart. I say "more likely" because from my own personal experience once the warts started dying I did not use duct tape for a week and they keep shrinking. Also, I read a comment on another video where someone mentioned the adhesive acts as an inflammatory which is what triggers the immune system response. This makes sense as the duct tape can cause your skin to get itchy/painful/peel. Which is why you should not keep it on all day, but just apply it at night while sleeping, unless you are in a hurry to kill the warts and don't mind side effects and having duct tape on the wart all day.

@@EcnalKcin Dermatologist recently recommended duct tape 24/7 (more or less-it’s not like an open wound where it can be critical it is never exposed) as followup to cryo treatment. Their explanation, while not using those exact words, would match up with the mechanisms being (1) adhesive triggering an inflammatory response (inflammatory response leading to healing was specifically described, but not whether it is the adhesive that triggers the immune response) and (2) the relative impermeability to water of duct tape waterlogging the skin (it was likened to the pruning effect from a long bath).

What about adhesive plaster? If it's as effective I would feel better to use it, since it's designed to be applied on skin. Prolonged contact to chemicals not designed for skin application may not always be safe (...though it may be such aggressive chemicals which are effective...?)

We used banana peel on my 8 year old granddaughter...she had a big wart on the side of her her foot by her little toe. (The doctor had tried to burn it off but it came back.) We used a fresh banana peel, skin side out, and tied it on with fabric. The only time she couldn’t use it was when she went to school as it wouldn’t fit in her shoe. However, when she was at home we kept the peel on. Within a week or so the wart was gone (over that time it blackened and shrunk) and it never came back. Sounds crazy but it’s true!

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that the duct tape "adhesive" is what removes warts? Or is it the combined effect of the adhesive and the specific composition of the tape plus adhesive. Are all "duct tape" adhesives the same? Too many untested, or at least unknown, variables unless you specify 3M Gray Duct tape or some other.

See other comments above (mine and others’): yes, the specific adhesive probably matters, but the waterproof-ness probably matters, too. Though I don’t think anyone has actually done a study to confirm whether the same adhesive with a permeable backing would be effective.

Sparkola is wrong. That is what they did in the study, but I would recommend against it because it can cause side effects to your skin. Instead apply it every night before bed and remove it in the morning. Which actually might be more effective as you are applying a new batch of adhesive each day. If you experience side effects such as pain/itchiness/peeling skip a few days/week and apply the duct tape every 2-3 days.

I had a kidney bean size wart on the medial side of my big toe. It was huge. I tried everything. My PCP did the cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen and a gigantic blood blister formed over that entire half of my toe. I could hardly walk for a couple days. Excruciating. I tried salicylic acid. I saw a dermatologist who injected a yeast directly into the wart to trigger and immune response. Nothing worked. Then, I heard about the duct tape therapy. It worked! If I recall correctly, it took about 2 weeks before I quit applying the tape. It hasn't been back since. That was over 10 years ago.

A year too late, but just apply it every night before bed, remove in the morning, repeat until the wart is gone, or side effects occur such as itchy/painful/peeling skin. In which case give your skin time to recover, as the immune system response has likely already started. if that doesn't kill all the warts, then after about a week of not using duct tape start applying it every 2-3 nights, and that should take care of the problem. That is the exact method I used to kill an exponentially expanding colony of 20+ warts on my foot. They were all gone within 6 weeks, and most had died out in 2, just the big warts hung on a while longer. They never came back, and I have no scars from the experience.

I made the following comment on the previous one about duct tape. I can't help but pass it along to anyone who may suffer from a plantar's wart: The Flat Out Best Cure For Plantar's Wart: I had a dime sized plantar's wart on the ball of my foot for 25 years. I tried Compound W and other types numerous times. Worthless. I tried the OTC freezing ones, also worthless. I tried drilling it out...yes I did. Worthless too and painful. I tried the duct tape method the most. One time I left it on for 2 months. It didn't help. Within days of taking of the duct tape, the wart was as bad as ever. FINALLY, last year I got my concentrated wheel acid cleaner that I use on my rims. Applied it to a cotton ball and simply wiped it on and let it dry. Within a month...THE WHOLE THING WAS GONE! It didn't hurt...other than a slight sting when applying. And, it hasn't returned. Forget the duct tape and freezing and go get some wheel acid cleaner, don't dilute it and apply. Then see what happens. Also worked on warts that my kids got on their hands. Simple, cheap and fast. When I told my podiatrist--he was was blown away.

Tamás Fábián, my hypothesis is that it triggers the local immune system (dendritic cells) into the same reaction as to a parasite being attached to the skin. Then, as white blood cells are recruited to the site, they also "notice" the viral wart infection and attack that.

I immediately suspected the use of clear duct tape and the use of mole skin as the failure of the test. I have never heard of clear duct tape and the addition of mole skin would present a barrier between the wart and the duct tape. I further suspect the people doing the study for changing the parameters of the test. If you want a repeatable result you have to do it exactly as it was first done.

There are 3 major adhesive manufactures...and I would never recommend using toxic or harmful glue/adhesive on anyones skin...unless I knew of the brand-- or even the active ingredient.... that would affectively snuff out warts. 3m, DuPont, and Bayer are all hedious businesses...so treating a wart with "just tape" still deserves some consideration.

When I was around 40 years old, I noticed that I was having pain on my right big toe. I thought that there was a foreign body of some type in there such as a shard of glass or a splinter, but it turned out to be a wart which was endophytic (growing inwards). @@vetabroad4884 I honestly don't remember. It was probably with "Duck" or "Gorilla". Something to keep in mind is it most probably works from the adhesive leeching into the skin and causing an immune system response that kills the warts. It probably won't work if the wart goes deep enough. The base of your feet are really the only place I can think of that it would have serious trouble, and you can increase the effectiveness by using a foot treatment first to remove the layers of dead skin covering it. If you have a deep wart that it is not working on, I would suggest surgical removal instead as other treatments are likely to be just as ineffective because they can only penetrate so far into your skin.

Steph Ss So unless you have a channel doing videos you aren’t allowed an opinion, and to voice that opinion in the comments section? What are you all for state control only allowing kiss-ass comments? Your goal in life is to do as you are told without question? Keep on policing the internet, good luck
