Minnesota has the highest amount of Scandinavian ancestry than any US State. The most common is Swedish. Many of the people in this video look like the descendants from Scandinavia, and it's hard to tell them apart from the average Dane/Norwegian/Swede.

MN got a lot of Danish people (towns like Askov, Tyler, etc. have big Dansk ancestry populations). There's so much nuance to MN! For example, it's *very* diverse: it's the #1 per-capita place for Karen (autonym "K'nyaw," not same as "Korean"), Hmong (not same as "Mongolian"), & Somali people (maybe for Oromo people too). This means a surprisingly high amount of delicious cultural food options.
@nickhalvorsen646812 күн бұрын
We’re very Scandinavian in general and also there are a lot of Finnish descents as well. Best state in the US as far as I’m concerned!

What does Iowa have that Nebraska doesn’t?
@baller84milw9 күн бұрын
@@ik9214 More rest stops 🤣 Lol no lie though, driving across I-80 you have more cities to stop in (Quad Cities, Iowa City, Des Moines, etc) and even when you get to Nebraska, the bigger cities are still closer to Iowa (i.e. Omaha and Lincoln). That drive across the state from Lincoln to Colorado is mind numbing.
@ik92148 күн бұрын
I figured you were talking about quality of life, day-to-day life when comparing Nebraska and Iowa. I see what you mean. The way I understand it is that Omaha and Lincoln are the last two cities before you hit the Western US to where there aren’t any major cities until Denver. I don’t think it’s really an Iowa connection regarding where Lincoln and Omaha are located, but instead an East vs. West divide in population density of the U.S. With that said, I imagine the sparsely populated West is incredibly boring until you get to the scenery, and Nebraska just so happens to be the state that transitions to that.
@baller84milw8 күн бұрын
@@ik9214Oh I mean, I know why they're near Iowa: it's the Missouri River. And it's not just driving through that makes Iowa better, I did stay in Omaha for a night too, and it was probably the most boring city I've ever been in. On like a Thursday night, there was only one "bar" open, and it was more like a late night restaurant (called "Eat the Worm") and it was almost completely empty except for this dude on a tinder date. The city sucked and me and my work buddy were really disappointed. Mind you I'm only from Milwaukee, but Milwaukee is like 1,000 times more fun on every given night than Omaha was; I'm not even comparing it to a big city like LA or NY lol.
@ik92148 күн бұрын
@@baller84milw that’s correct to point out the Missouri River as to where Omaha is located. I think part of the reason why Lincoln developed was because the government was considering giving the land south of the Platte River to Kansas, and so the capital was moved from Omaha to Lincoln so it would be Nebraska’s land. I’d imagine Milwaukee has more things to do with having professional sports teams, and a robust brewery scene. Omaha is more of a city where you have to look harder for things to do; doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to do, but it’s not so obvious. Though, I wonder if you were in Omaha during the pandemic or closer in time to COVID restrictions of any sort. Regardless, the bars here are more filled on Fridays and Saturdays, and not so much on the weekdays. Omaha has a smaller metro population than Milwaukee, and a smaller urban population in result so that helps to explain things. I know Milwaukee has a brewery scene, so I think that could provide for higher weekday clientele than what Omaha would have without a brewery scene. I don’t contest your point when you compare Omaha to Milwaukee. If you’re not from Omaha, you don’t have the benefit of hanging out with friends or family, or knowing the places to go, or the neighborhoods to spend time in depending on the weekday while visiting the city. I seriously doubt any outsider would come here with their family/friends specifically for anything unless it was the CWS.
