This is funny that immediately I saw Tennessee 🤣 I’m a teen in Tennessee (my pronouns are she/they) and a bunch of kids are LGBTQ but everyone is so darn homophobic that nobody dares say a word. It’s literally so bad that we have like 1 pride festival in the whole state and it almost gets canceled like every year 🤣🤚 I haven’t even gone to one yet but I’m hoping to this year!

Fr. Im a teen and I live in RURAL Indiana, once in 8th grade a kid called me the f slur because I referred to someone as “they” bc I didn’t know their gender. I don’t dress up or anything, im cis, and the girl had a gender neutral name 😭 Ik so many closeted kids who pretend to be deathly homophobic. In my experience, the extremely homophobic/transphobic people are overcompensating

@tylerbonn68838 ай бұрын
As a fellow Pennsylvanian, I can confirm it's better than some states, but there's still a lot of homophobia and transphobia here. A lot of people don't care one way or the other about LGBTQ people, a good chunk are super against certain things like gender affirming care for trans kids and trans people in sports, and some just don't want to learn about trans people at all. I'm from Reading, and Jordan Peterson recently did a show in the city. We're better than the South, but there's still a lot of work to be done here
@DaveTheMagicalChiken8 ай бұрын
@tylerbonn6883 I'm glad to hear you've had better experiences here than other places as well. I definitely agree as a state, the general population has a ways to go. I'm right outside of Pittsburgh where there is alot of Trans friendly healthcare and gender affirming healthcare resources. Also the city wants to become a sanctuary for Trans and gender affirming healthcare. Which I'm thrilled to see. Also the courthouse has monthly name change legal ceremonies for Trans folks changing their legal names (honored to have gone to one for my friend's name change). So I do think is Pittsburgh is a pretty LGBTQ friendly city, but western PA and PA as a whole is a long way to go still. Hoping things keep moving in the right direction for us LGBTQ folks ❤️

That's a lot of work , great job. I am worried that Massachusetts got such a high rating. From my experience the LGBTQ+ accepting areas are spotty and can be very small, especially in the western 2/3 or the state. A town in Connecticut had to postpone its drag queen story hour at the library due to threats. Improvements, hurray..... But it is still be careful.
@ferninthehouse7 ай бұрын
Well good thing this ranking is based on laws and not how accepting the people are. The latter would be harder to quantify. I mean hell, Nevada is #3 on this list and I guarantee that the average Nevada resident probably hates drag queens. Have you ever been to Nevada? I don’t recommend it.

As a Missourian, we would be SO much lower if this was based on how accepting people actually are. 5:07 And this right here is exactly why my family is fleein a state of Misery to go to Colorado; things are dire here, and we need to get out, we need to be safe... And our safest bet is Colorado There is potential i mayve to move back to Oregon, which is still much safer than Misery... But its spot in 12th is deservedly as low as it actually is; theres a lot of problems for us queer ppl back there, i saw much of it and before i left in '21, it had only increased in recent yrs... Esp as i lived in the capital and the bigots wud come there from the rural places where they breed their hatefulness And that hatefulness has deep roots despite Oregons seemin progressiveness; aside from Alaska, known haven of hate and violence and bigotry, Oregon is the lowest ranked west coast state here... Its the only such state that in its constitution banned all Black ppl from even passin thru the state, let alone livin there; for the sake of "racial purity" and white jobs which they didnt want to lose to 'free' labour of enslaved ppl All around awful, but somehow considered progressive bcuz antislavery but for the most awful reasons

Currently, states are scored on a rubric with a maximum of 32.5 points overall, with positive policies generally receiving one point (though a few very minor policies receive half a point). Conversely, some laws and policies that are designed to make elections more partisan, or to unnecessarily limit voting and civic engagement, are scored as negative. Wait.
