Which "Untouched" Gen 7 Pokémon are Still the Most Useful?

Pokémon getting left in the dust doesn't have to be reserved for the old ones; newer Pokémon can be left behind too when all of their counterparts get special treatment like Z-moves, or Totems or new form changes being added! But just because they don't get fancy new toys doesn't mean the rest of the Alola Pokémon are bad, and in fact there plenty that are still great, so let's see which Alolan Pokémon that have remained the same are the best!

I’m so nostalgic for Gen 7. I haven’t ever played any game in Gen 7, but I remember watching every single YT reveal, loving each one. I was only into the TCG at the time, but I love most every Gen 7 mon

I remember playing double battles in the battle tree and accidentally hitting Mudsdale with a multi hit move. I'm pretty sure that battle somehow changed how I played Pokemon from then on. Maushold and stamina are a terrifying pair

gen 7 is my favorite gen. unpopular opinion but i felt it was so refreshing. trials. totem pokemon. the whole vibe. i loved every pokemon introduced & have played the ultra games over a dozen times. ugh, such a fun gen.

So true; everyone and their mother was tired of the gym formula by Gen 7 so shaking that up was a huge step! Who cares if there are "too many cutscenes?" Just don't run straight to the next trigger and you're good! Go take in the scenery and catch some Pokemon instead of speed-running the story, and you'll be rewarded with a great time!

The games are fun, they’re just not the most aesthetically pleasing for me scenery wise or engaging battle-wise. I do love these games however for most of the characters and all the content there is to do in the cities and towns.

Doing a bug adjacent run-through of Shield has given me a new love for Golisopod! I'd never used it in Alola, so when I saw Wimpod in the 2nd mine, I *HAD* to get it! It ended up being an MVP of my team! Edit: I said bug adjacent, cause most of my final team *WAS* bug type, the only one who wasn't...but *IS* a bug is Flygon

It's interesting to me the Pokemon that get appreciated after their introduction; like in Alola itself it seems like Pancham got much more of a focus than it got in its native Kalos...

Out of all the 3D era Pokémon games, Alola was the only one that had the right balance of story and difficulty. Really took those games for granted. Assumed things would only improve after it, but I was wrong.

Haha, good point. Although to be fair I think if Sword and Sheild were on the 3DS they'd be heralded as Marvels! The main problem is they didn't shift their thinking when moving to a home console...

​@TrvisXXIII absolutely, Galar was an empty shell of a region, genuinely there is so little to explore and the towns have nothing except maybe a gym. Just an atrociously empty region, it makes the whole game feel barren.

I really wished Bewer when I started doing a mono-Normal type run in Scarlet. It's not a great Fighting type but it's a fantastic Normal type.

I still remember when I got hooked on Golisopod! I thought it was such a cool design, I attempted to breed for a shiny Wimpod for weeks. Sadly unsuccesful, but maybe I'll make that a project of mine when I got some off time!

Pallosand has become one of my go-tos in Pokémon. And I also like to call them Pankot after the Palace in the Temple of Doom. It fits oddly well for the seemingly nice looking exterior harboring horrors underneath.

Mudsdale is the best Alola mon to use in an Alolan playthrough imo, even better than the starters and the psuedo. Especially mid-late game it truly gets to shine. Mudsdale even shines brightly in Galar and Paldea, due to the lack of good Ground types in those regions. But thats not surprising, since Galar only introduced 5 Ground types, two of which are regional forms (Yamask and Stunfisk) and 3 are new ground types (Runerigus, Silicobra and Sandaconda) and not counting the Paradoxes/Legendaries, we only have 4 normal Ground types in Paldea as well (Toedscool and Toedscruel and Paldean Wooper and Clodsire).

Yeah... it makes me sad how neglected Ground has been since the 3DS really. But at least we do have some nice options that still put in work, even if they're from so long ago!

At least this type gets the quality over quantity treatment. Something that can't be said for the Psychic type which is basically shot in the foot. Yes, some good Psychic type Pokémon exist, but they're either hard to use or predictable as can be. So it'd be nice if it got some boost in power. It's not like Gen 1 anymore, after all.

Tsareena is definitely one of my favorite Pokémon of all time. I just personally love how bold GameFreak is when making her into a literal dommatrix and aren’t even hidden the fact when she learns moves like Stomp, Play Rough, and Power Whip. Plus the fact she really good in battle and super fun in Unite makes adore this Pokémon a lot more than I thought.

You'd be surprised; Applin, Duralaudon and Polteageist already have evolutions or off-shoot forms, not to mention plenty of Galar Pokemon DID get Gigantamax forms (unlike Megas for Kalos Pokemon...)

So. On this list I literally used 4 of these Pokémon between my first runs of SM+USUM. And in the Thumbnail is Turtanator who was ALSO on my team and the honorable mention of Araquanid who was almost on the list was on my team too. So this felt like a “oh let’s dive into this random viewer’s teams that isn’t commonly used in game or in other’s team” I love Alola so much. This was the first game I also nicknamed every team member besides just a few. Bojack the Mudsdale, Lil Guy the Wimpod who became “BiggestLilGuy” when they became Golisopod, Kapptherine the Turtanator (Like Catherine and Kappa, mine was female) And ScareBear the Bewear are just some of the memorable names I gave my team back then. Need to reply and recreate those teams again,,,

I think a lot of Alola's Pokédex as it is now feels a lot like "untouched" Johto pre-Gen 4, a lot of the single stage mons felt forgettable because the designs seemed incomplete or like one-off gimmicks, and were hard to find. Hopefully we get some cross-gen evolutions for them soon since the Gen 9 cross-gen evolutions were really good imo

I completely agree; not since the original Johto roster has there been so many one-offs packed into one region, (certainly by percentage!) Oricorio, Komala, Minior, Wishiwashi, Drampa, Dhelmise and so many more...

@@emperorcubone Pod would be strong but not op, theres a reason why we dont see him with neutralizing gas weezing, Also i in smogon singles we have sneaky rocks, and if Pod runs boots its giving up its item slot for a better ability. It would make it wildly better but in the end it still does to a thunder shock from a light orb pikachu. (Please observe that im both biased af as an Alola kid and overly analytical so the two cancel out to make a good analasys) Edit: as for the ability yes, it would be super duper op but its still attached to a Goliso

Gen 7 is going to be the next gen 5. When I was the current game, I wad most looked over or even unliked. But years down the road people looked back on gen 5 and realized it's the best gen and people are starting to realize how good gen 7 was too. People complain about all the cut scenes in Alola but I'm fine with plot and story.

I still like Alola as a region. I could absolutely do without the boring cutscenes and just explore the lands, battling random Pokémon and find the collectable Zygarde cells or Totem Stickers. Not the best of all but best of Modern Pokémon.

You calling my boy Shiinotic not cool? Dude's one of the most reliable grass types in gen 7! (For me, at least.) Strength Sap may get around a lot these days, but it originated on gen 7's pillow mushroom. The grass/fairy typing is pretty good outside of the immense weakness to poison, and Effect Spore mixed with the aforementioned Strength Sap can go wild against the right opponent. Its bulk ain't too bad either, easily one of the better switch-ins to an incoming U-Turn. Oh, and access to Spore never hurts. If you've never tried Shiinotic before, you're missing out.

All great Pokemon. My least fav is bewear but it not bad . It normal typinf doesnt help him. Normal typing is great on pokemon that resist fighting so it be a free immunity like ghost, psychic Only issue with sun/moon is it unskippable cut scene

It counts because not every Pokemon in Alola COULD be a Totem; while Hisui had giant Pokemon of all species, Alola had very few, and with highly boosted stats with basically their own temples, so it's quite special!

Well if mudsdale is a donkey, and donkeys are as closely related to horses as zebras then zebstrika is a zebra so if gen 7 has a horse Pokémon so does gen 5

Yeah, the Fire weakness does just make it "Flammable Fur Coat," which isn't great, but it's the same risk/reward you get with Dry Skin, so it could be worse...

I honestly Love the Fluffy Ability on my Bewear, it makes physical hits from its weaknesses (Fairy[Both Physical Fairy Moves are Contact], Fighting[Most Fighting Moves are Physical Contact moves], Fire[All Physical Fire Moves are contact except Pyro Ball, Raging Fury, & Sacred Flame], Flying[All Physical Flying Moves are Contact save for Beak Blast], & Psychic[All Physical Psychic Moves are Contact except Psycho Cut]) into Neutral hits, and gives it a whole slew of resistances to other physical contact attacks >.> It makes Bewear Super Physically Defensive...

You didn't see Ash Greninja/Zygarde in the gne 7 anime, just in the Sun and Moon games since they are gen 6 Pokémon. Also I think Decidueye is the only true touched Pokémon of gen 7, as special Z moves would most likely go on some gen 7 Pokémon when it was first shown in the trailer.
