FINALLY!!!! Someone who shows us how the violin appears (static images from the eyes to the scroll) as it is being played, depending on the position of the chinrest and the player's desired orientation. FINALLY!!!! We always see it from the scroll towards the face, not knowing what the eyes actually see (which strings). KUDOS!!!!

I am a tall but small boned woman and I tried all kinds of shoulder rests and I just couldn't find a comfortable, workable position. I finally had a center chin rest recommended and it changed so much! I could go completely without a shoulder rest if I had to. I didn't realize how high my instrument was being jammed. Men have it easier because having bigger shoulders in general except those with a long neck and they have benefit from an adjustable height chin rest. Thank you. I'm a green as grass beginner but since I'm 63 I have plenty of time to become great. 😉😁 I appreciate so much the discussion of limitations of movement. This is the first video of yours I've seen and I'm hoping you have one with advice for bow holds with arthritic fingers. The other instructional videos I've seen are very good unless your fingers now bend in various directions.

Thank you for this video. I was tilting my head to see the neck better and it caused discomfort. The original chin rest dug on my jaw and it hurt and I didn't know how to fix this.

Thank you! This was indeed very useful. I am an adult beginner and I started with my chinrest at the side, then moved it to the middle, and I am now trying it on the side again. I do not have it resolved yet obviously. I find it difficult to get a shoulder rest that works well for me if my chin rest is in the middle position as it is higher and the shoulder rest then makes it too high for me. But I do love playing the violin, so I continue to search for a solution. I am. Rey glad to know the advantages of each chin rest position and that it is purely a personal choice.
