I'm not sure if 1939 was THE worst year for Poland, but I'm pretty certain it was the start of the worst occupation they ever experienced. I'm not sure if the other divisions of Poland would lead to the loss of over 17% of its pre-conflict population, mostly civilians lost to war crimes. Maybe one of the earlier occupations was bloodier than I am aware of, otherwise I'm pretty confident that the worst year for Poland would fall between 1939 and 1945.

I think the Swedish deluge in 17th century was pretty comparable, I think about 20% percent of population perished. Granted, overall number would be smaller since the population itself was smaller.

Pretty sure the bloodiest conflict is the Warring States period of China, since you could classify that as a civil war and it lasted over 2 centuries with multiple dynasties bolstering some pretty massive armies for the times (and even for today) up to 500-1000k man.

That was when they suffered one of the worst famines in history directly as a result of Stalin’s actions (although it’s possible that it wasn’t included in this video because it was part of the greater Soviet Union rather than an independent country)
