Baden Powell - His Life and Contraversy

Controversy surrounds Robert Baden Powell, and this has led to his statue in Poole Harbour, Dorset, where the Scout movement was started, to be targeted by activists.
Baden-Powell retired from the Army in 1910 to focus on the Scouts. However, his record in the army was not free from controversy. Documents, which were sold at auction in 2009 related to an inquiry into his conduct during the execution of an African leader of the 1896 Matabeleland rebellion, and suggested Baden-Powell ignored a pledge to spare the man’s life.

Very one sided my friend. We celebrate the dead for the good things they did in their life, not for their mistakes. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I don’t know of many people who create organizations that help millions of children worldwide become successful in their life.

The Nuremburg Trials were pf Prisoners of War... tried and executed... are you saying this was wrong? At the end of the Day, BP did much for many. My opinion is unchanged by this information, let each decide for themselves

I don’t know anyone that is perfect, but there are very few people that start a movement that touches the lives of so many in a positive way. After the horrors of war he did much to make the lives of young people better. This should be celebrated.

This country needs the scouting values that have continued beyond Baden-Powell's life. The Scout oath and law are as relevant for youth in civil society as it was back then. Scouting, like the church, has been damaged by its human leaders over the years but the original values remain true.

No this isnt right. If baden powell mercelesly killed african prisoners of war then why would they make his grave a nanonal monument. It is also inportant to know that if you want somone from history that is dead and cant defend themselvels to look bad you can always find somthing about them that dosent comply with the modern world. And even if what is said in the video is true, i think that the good that he has done has made up for it.

I mean, address all the emotions that arose in you when you read my comment and how they impact on you creating a defensive argument. Investigate what systemic elements of oppression were used to erect said monument. He was an English coloniser! Plenty of monuments across the world of murderous colonisers thanks to the empire 🤷🏽‍♀️
