One of my favorite videos. Shelley became a dear friend when I was sick with cancer and had to endure chemo. My two favorite Broadway ladies.

There's still just something special about Andrea's voice that no successive Annie has ever captured.
@sabrinaflipse77324 жыл бұрын
VideoArchiveGuy word. Although the 1999 version Annie did a good job but it seemed like they had 1/2 the budget and no time for the story.

Andrea McArdle WILL ALWAYS BE ANNIE! No matter how old she or I get! Her voice has always been like butter! It is just as unique as Karen Carpenter's was & Josh Groban"s is. And, besides that, the "Annie" original Broadway cast recording IS STILL THE BEST "GoTo/#1" top selling version of "Annie", STILL IN PRODUCTION! In fact, since it's 1976 release, the original Broadway cast recording has been remastered & rereleased nearly a dozen times to date. With almost every rerelease containing some newly discovered lost & forgotten audio gem from the "Annie" archives. Like Marvin Hamlisch's "A Chorus Line" original cast recording, the "Annie" original cast recording can not & will never be outdone. You simply can't improve perfection.

@@sabrinaflipse7732Well, it was a Wonderful World of Disney made-for-TV movie, so yeah less budget put in and certain elements cut to make it friendly for TV and for kids (though that's just Disney), but it was my intro to Annie and I still love it the best of any movie version.
@Amanda-kd1zr4 ай бұрын
Well they shouldn't try to sound exactly like her, there's one her, and they brought their own voice--plenty of good singers besides her. Though I agree she has/has a unique quality to her voice.

Being adopted, this song breaks my heart every time I hear it. I first saw Annie when I was 8...I didn’t know anyone else who was adopted...I immediately bonded with this show...still as an adult, it gets me every time. Thanks Annie, you meant the world to me.

I saw Andrea McArdle in the original production of Annie on Broadway. I held an umbrella over some "orphans" heads as they signed autographs for fans outside the stage door.

I've only been to NYC once and only saw one Broadway show. When I was 17, four members of my high school's drama club and our teacher traveled from Dayton, Ohio to 5th & Broadway, NYC on Thanksgiving weekend 1977. The city was ablaze in Christmas decorations. There we had the tremendous privilege of watching the original cast of Annie. It was amazing. Andrea McArdle will forever more be my Annie.

Ahhhh...I performed that song at my school talent show (all souls Catholic in ssf) accompanied by the great Jeff Chimenti on piano. In case you don't who Jeff is, he's the keyboard player for the Grateful Dead. Jeff was an amazing pianist (he was in 8th grade) back then in 1981. How lucky was I? And my little gramma sewed me the best orphan outfit! We kept it "real" by singing "Maybe" dressed like an orphan vs. red wig, red dress since that's a sing she sung in the orphanage. I was called Annie after that performance and asked to sing all the time after too. I was touched.

This is very sweet, but if you know you're going to go onstage, WHY WHY would you wear shorts/tank top/heels???
@TheCoasterLisa4 жыл бұрын
I agree. But, with her being a guest at a winery event, it might have been impromptu. It didn’t look like or sound like they had practiced it together. Although her heels has me scratching my head. So maybe it would have been better for her to at least wear a casual skirt, slacks or nice jeans.
@marya.wilkowski29314 жыл бұрын
Actually I don’t care that she was casually attired. I DO care that she was flat. Andrea seems always to grab her pitch at the absolute top; her successor the polar opposite...
@jenniferlawrence96524 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the exact same thing I would have been so embarrassed if I was her...but honestly I wouldn't even go out to a show like that even if I wasn't preforming
@tomorrowmorning83604 жыл бұрын
Mary A. Wilkowski is “grab her pitch at the absolute top” a vocalist thing? i mean does it mean something more specific than just that she sings on key?
@Dan_da_man-og8zh4 жыл бұрын
@@tomorrowmorning8360 I think “grab her pitch at the absolute top” refers to singing on top of the note so to avoid sounding flat.
