I grew up on a farm, a farm that was not very prosperous money wise but we always had an abundance of food. My mother worked tirelessly to put up fruit, vegetables and chicken in mason jars. My favorites were; canned chicken, canned crabapples and canned pears. Her efforts ensured we ate nutritious food all winter long. She has given me many of the jars she used. They represent her loving toil that ensured her family was well fed and cared for. Thanks mom!

My mom too and she also worked full time. I was her right hand man getting the jars and lids sterilized, picking and prepping the veggies, getting the tools ready and starting dinner. When she got home we ate and then got to work. We’d be canning till 11 pm sometimes and she still got up at 5 am to go to work again, making our lunches for school and leaving them on the counter before she left. We got on the school bus at 7 am. I didn’t get to socialize with friends much, they were too far away from my house and they never had the amount of chores I did, so I didn’t get invited to a lot of the things they did. so I spent my days doing chores a good part of the day, but we always had plenty to eat. My parents grew up poor and didn’t eat well when they were kids. My mom was 19 and my dad 23 when they married but he made her 2 promises if she married him… that they would own their own house and never go hungry. He kept both those promises. They’re gone now and I’m currently emptying the property & house we grew up in to be sold. So much stuff I’ve had to sell, donate, bring home or throw out because they saved everything. So hard to do, everything I touch is full of memories. They did very well for themselves and lived their dream life in the country and even though I live in the suburbs now, my house is decorated in farmhouse I guess it makes me feel like I’m still a country girl at heart.

@@TheCraftydevilSpeaks I am so sorry for your loss. My mom is 93 and our visits include so many memories of our life on the farm. My father had to work on the oil rigs during the winter to make extra money, so like you and your mom, we had the chores to do on top of the usual duties. They certainly were full day! I hope your memories include happy times … the arrival of babies animals in the spring, the cold crispness of a glass of spring water, listening to coyote calls from the safety of a warm bed and just how good our food tasted. I send you many blessings.

I don't know about others but I'm 80 years old and when I had a growing family I had a huge garden and canning in mason jars was something I did every year. It was a wonderful time that I lived in and when I see a mason jar it evokes those wonderful memories. I think it speaks of less stressful simpler days without all the technical problems and the flooding of mass media that we have today. They just make us feel good don't they

When I think of a Mason Jar & the significance of them… I think of it being “filled up” with something…. food that is stored up for future use; a refreshing drink; something sweet like cookies or candy; dry ingredients with a recipe card to pass on as a gift; etc.! So many ideas & so many blessings that “fill up” a Mason Jar!!

These are so cute, I love this idea! I really like the tea bag pocket with the flowers in it. I use mason jars all the time for everything. Candy storage, flower jars, pasta storage, buttons… you name it, it gets stored in it! I grew up on a farm, ( not a producing farm), we had horses, chickens, dogs, one or two cows…. but we did “nothing” to profit off of it. It was just our home life. Mason jars make me think of a simpler time. I love their old fashioned appeal and charm. In my adult life, I lived on farmland too. I raised ducks… also not for profit. The country life is for me, and the mason jar is all part of it!! Thank you for the crafting today. Oh, and I love your nail polish color!!!! 😁 Enjoy your day!!

I am retired now but when I was younger I had a large vegetable garden and canned dozens of jars of vegetables, pickles, jam, etc. every summer. So my favorite shape is the mason jar. I think lots of people have memories of their mothers and grandmothers gardening and canning. So the mason jars are quite a nostalgic image. As for the fairies, no matter how early I would get out to my garden I never caught sight of a fairy! 😉 Thanks for another lovely video.

I love your side commentary. i think I chuckled throughout this entire tutorial. To answer your question, IF faeries were real, wouldn't you try capturing it and putting it in a mason jar? I think, mason jars are reminiscent of childhood, capturing insects and things to watch through the clear glass walls. Also, eating your grandmother's homemade jam from fruit that was grown in her garden. They represent happy memories and evoke that warm fuzzy feeling.

I just love this! I love them both. The bottle ones remind me of those cute 1950's sundresses. If you cut a little "V" at the top and used brads for buttons they'd be styling outfits! So cute!!! I love mason jars. In fact, I went to dinner tonight at a friend's and they used mason jars for drinking glasses. They bring feelings of simpler times, when handmade was more the norm. Thank you for another beautiful video :)

Absolutely CHARMING!!!! Great presentation of your wonderfully creative skills and lovely imagination! Mason jars reflect the comfort of "country core." They have - for generations - held the essential goodness of home-preserved foods & fruits, staples like coffee beans or sugar, and a wealth of childhood memories...... from lightning bugs caught in Grandmother's garden to buttons snipped from clothing destined to become quilts and shells gathered on a beach vacation....... or fairies captured in our fantasies. If there is a more wholesome, innocent image to use in handmade books designed to hold thoughts, dreams & precious memories, I cannot imagine what it would be.

My oldest mason jars have ‘zinc’ lids and are of blue glass. Mason jars held the hopes and treasures of many a pioneer woman as she left her home and moved west. They stored everything from lard to locks of her children’s hair (not in the same jar, lol). The history of the mason jar is actually quite fascinating, well at least to me. I think that these will make beautiful Birthday Cards when made for my friends that I’ve given junk journals to.

Mason jars remind me of my Grandma. She would take me to the basement where she had rows of shelves with all the things she had canned. Mason jars, and bottles, display what is contained in them. Along with the homey, cottage feeling, maybe we like them because in journals we display what is inside the diarist, and preserve it. And when the jar contains something out of the ordinary, like fairies, fireflies, butterflies, and so on, it tells a lot about the maker. Thank you for the inspiration!

Hourglasses. Dresses. Bottles. Whatever you call them- well done! They’re wonderful! And I think we connect mason jars to junk journals because for most of us, they’re vintage, a necessity of the past that has become modern house decor. Their original purpose of preserving and storing food is only for those who farm or live where fresh produce is readily available.

I have to admit I share that feeling... Sometimes I do feel guilty for being so easily triggered, but there are very interesting videos that I had to stop watching because of extremely messy desks, dirt and litter scattered all around or even very dirty and chipped fingernails. 😱 I know it sounds awfully judgemental, but I am absolutely not capable of concentrating on beautiful paper art if it is made in the midst of chaos.

Love this idea. It is a great way to use up extra things. Mason jars, to me, represent home, past, present, and hopefully the future. They also represent independence. They hold the precious food one grew in the summer and feed your family throughout the year. They hold the iced tea we drink in the summertime and the beautiful bouquet of wildflowers our children picked just for us to enjoy. They hold collections like marbles, seashells, and fossils. They also hold science projects like when you had to go outside and fill it halfway with dirt then add lots of water. The next day you get to see all the different layers of the earth in that jar. They make great storage for nuts, bolts, and screws in the garage. So many things, but all these things represent home. One could go on all day listing the many virtues of the Mason jar. A simple jar that simply makes our life better.

BEAUTIFUL!!! The shape of the second kind looks like a strapless dress...I love booth but, I like the dress/ Mason jar shape! You are so funny...my favorite channel. Hello from British Columbia and CONGRATULATIONS on your 100,000 subscribers. I never used Mason jars in my junk journals before, but now you've made it alot more interesting. For me, it makes me think of childhood. I lived on a farm and my Mom canned everything because we had a huge garden.Thankyou for your lovely and inspiring ideas, Natasha 🥰

I grew up in Los Angeles and whenever I saw a mason jar it made me feel cozy and calm. Mason jars held only good things Jam, pickled foods, moonshine, hahaha. I use them for vases now. See, another good thing.

Forgot to add, mason jars are everywhere, the country look started the craze. I like mason jars cause they remind me of home and family. Grew up in the country, a long time ago, and we had a big garden and mu Mum would can all the spoils for winter, then as each of us 3 sister got old enough we helped. I would love to have some of my Mom's beans, corn, tomato juice and jam!!!!!

My grandma canned peaches, pears, tomatoes and other yummy things when I was a child. I still remember how good the aroma of spices graced our noses. Mason jars mean love to me. 🫙❤🏡

I drink my water out of a mason jar everyday. I have always had a kindred love for them, and for reasons I can’t even explain. 😅 Loved your jars, all 30+ of them. Thanks so much for sharing. 💕🌈✂️📄🙌👏

Both jars evoke a different feel to me. The "bottle" reminds me of wine carafe,, vase or specialty coffee carafes seen in restaurants. I'm in visioning grapes, or coffee stains . You really have my imagination going right now. Thank you. Have a lovely day.

I like all the free form shapes...whimsical! I could see a Mason jar theme with lots of old recipes from grandma, embellished with flour sack swatches and minnie aprons. Some old cookbooks have a lot of folklore and graphics.

Your bottles make me think of sacks. Way back, flour used to come in sacks with printed fabric that people used to make flour sack dresses.

I love the jar shape! I'm doing a vintage kitchen-y type journal in hopes of trying to evoke the feeling of being in my grandmother's kitchen. These would go perfectly! I loved the idea of buttons but I think it would make the reverse side hard to write on. I use mason jars for everything! I think to me, the appeal is the fact that's its an item that has been used for over 100 years. And it's a vessel to hold treasures in!
