@@bigdaddymak1439 If we knew what the melting point of the glue was, we would know weather it is a concern or not! If that glue is getting inside the engine it has the possibility of really causing a problem. The oil filter Mfg's need to tighten their QC guidelines on adhesive applications in the filter Mfg process.

Nice review Whip. I'd buy the STP , much better filter. Better quality, and no 'cheese grater' center tube to restrict oil flow. I am currently using an STP 10,000 mile filter on my 2008 Focus. After seeing different comparisons on other filters...the STP 10,000 mile and the Microguard Select are much better filters than the 'Orange Can of Death'. 2012 Ford Focus. Using Penzoil synthetic and STP oil filter. Engine clean and runs great. Never had a problem. AIR filter and Gas Treatment STP with no issue on the Focus. Everything from Autozone plus I get points.

The AZ STP XL another Premium Guard made filter. Looks good as the PGI made filters do. In my locale the STP XL is a Champ Labs filter, much like the old Super Tech MP series filters. The Bosch Work Shop (WS) jobber/commercial grade filter looks like GARBAGE. Same thing happened to the Bosch Premium when the moved coo from US to Mexico. No bueno! Thanks for the video, Whip. Awesome Job, Pete and thanks Pete from Ft Myers for sharing. When I first saw the contestants in today's video, I would have bet the Bosch would have been the better filter. I would have lost that bet. The STP is the clear winner, it looks an awful lok like a boss filter and the Bosch looks like it was made by a guy with a hangover and vision impairment. I've never used a Bosch filter and I doubt I will start anytime soon. I don't mind paying more for a filter. It is still cheaper than a new engine.

Both of those filters are shining examples of why I prefer not to buy from companies who don’t actually make the filters. That STP filter looked great but is sourced overseas and the Bosch looked like it was made in Mexico, pretty dreadful looking inside. Great Video! Definitely opened up my eyes this morning!😀

If the only options were these two filters, I'd pick the STP because it has better components (silicone gasket, silicone anti-drainback valve, coli spring [my preference], thicker filter media) and is better made.

I used Bosch filters (in the old gray can) in the late 1990’s when I was in the car repair business. For my customers’ sake, hopefully their quality was at a higher level. Do you know that STP originally was an acronym for “Studebaker Trade Products”. All that Scientifically Treated Petrolium that Andy Granatelli talked about came much afterward. It was just a coincidence. LOL. Great video as always, Pete!

Looks like Bosch spent their money on the box that it was packaged in and had nothing left to build the filter … It’s just another example of major brands not giving a crap about product quality anymore. There are very few brands that you need not worry about what they sell anymore.

Autozone always has the special Oil with STP filter. Never had a problem. STP Oil filter, Air and cabin filter, STP gasoline additives never had a problem. Good price and will keep using it.

Bosch often has 2 different numbers. The shorter one is made for sales and the longer one is a more official number. In this case they are 72230WS and F00E369840. That STP filter resembles the Summit Racing filter from your older video. That too was Made in China. Is it made by the same factory?

Neither. But.... I'd choose the STP over the Bosch. Nothing beats the Microgard Select IMHO.

Thanks for another fine video. Back in the day our shop worked on German cars exclusively with the odd Saab or Volvo thrown in. We used both Bosch and Bosch Work Shop filters all the time and had zero comebacks, but I'm almost not surprised to see a decline in quality given today's production climate. We also used MANN and Mahle filters depending on which vehicle and availability. We never had oil related issues involving filters. We did so many oil changes that we had an older tech that did nothing but every day in a dedicated stall. Thank you for enlightening the automotive world with your videos.

At 11:16 The bottom of that Bosch filter on the inside looks really bad. I think that it's a bunch of glue. I wouldn't be too worried about excess glue on the unfiltered side, but if glue breaks loose on the filtered side, it could be real trouble. Another great video. Thank you.

Seems like Bosch quality control leaves a lot to be desired. However, the STP is made in China and I try to avoid Chinese products whenever possible. Given I was only able to choose between the 2 of them though, I would go with the STP.

As mentioned below, the STP looks a lot like a Microgard, although the Microgard Pete reviewed was cleaner. Filter media looks great, too. The Bosch? The worst I’ve seen on this channel.

I am assuming that the STP filter is manufactured by Champ Labs! Looks like a very good filter. I have been noticing on your sight, alot of Mfg"s seem to be sloppy with the glue! (that BOSH filter is terrible) have you ever asked a manufacture what the melting temperature of that glue is? If the glue melting point is higher then extreme oil temperatures gets, then there in no problem. If its lower then the extreme end of oil temperatures, then there is a problem of it getting into your oiling system on the car.

No, I never asked any manufacturer about the glue melting point, I doubt they would tell me anyway but, I would think it's higher than an engine oil temp should ever get.

Bosch doesn't make anything no more. They are just a purchasing company. People behind a computer making deals with and buying of the shelf from manufacturers or other purchasing companies world wide. Thus the German quality is no more.
