I was very ill several years ago and couldn’t do anything hardly for about a year. Now,I’m thankful when I do housework, when I iron, when I garden and can. I tell the good Lord how much I am thankful for the strength and His mercy on me. He visits with me in my garden and quilting room. I agree that keeping house should be looked at as a privilege.

I can see why a woman who works outside her home plus does all her own home making etc. would dread all the housework, ironing , laundry and etc. But I have always enjoyed being a home maker, it is all I ever wanted to be, that and a wife and mother. @@vickihogan8207 Yes. And my grandmother always had a plate of cookies or goodies for people who came to work. Also, during the Depression there was a railroad track at the end of the block, Hobos would come up to the back porch and ask "Ma'am do you have any spare food?" She said because of her garden, she always had something to give them, and even a peanut butter and her home made fig jam sandwhich. That jam was to die for, the figs were grown in my other grandma Lula's back yard. She put a big slice of lemon in it, and the lemons were from her trees. Those lemons were more plump than anything you would buy at the store. And this is why Ms. Laurie and Mr. Brown bring all of these memories back and teach us what we can't go back to our grandparents and ask! These are valuable loving people with a very valuable channel. In this creepy world, we long to get back to the old days in many ways with the "Keepers Of The Old Ways."

Mrs. Lori, your message today was touching and so true. I learned early in my life to enjoy the housekeeping. I, too, am a person who lives minimalist lifestyle. Your recipes have made a difference in people's lives. Society got so used to convenience foods that many young people have no idea how to deal with things like whole chickens, whole turkeys, full ham, along with preserving and canning food themselves. When COVID hit, many were in a panic because they had no idea how to cook a pot of beans or rice. I had so many asking me how to do this stuff because they were so used to eating all their meals out. Life is figuring things out. I am 61, retired school teacher, and still figuring things out. LOL

I loved this video just doing several different things 😊. Some cooking, some laundry, some dishes, getting some fresh peas ready to do something with. Just good, every day life kinda stuff. I have always loved housework. I don't know how or why but when I was just a little girl and would spend a week in the Summer with my Grandparents, my Grandma taught me how to do it all and I fell in love with it. As soon as I was old enough, I was keeping housework done for my Mama who was a nurse at our local hospital. I didn't ever learn how to cook all that well but I sure wish I had. I loved everything about making a comfortable, clean home for my husband. He appreciated it so much, which made it more satisfying. We didn't have children. Now that he's gone on to Heaven, the chores aren't quite as meaningful but I still find great pleasure in housework and I now do a lot of the yard work as well now that he's gone and I am now retired. Very thankful for satisfying work to do and that my health permits me to do it most of the time. You're such a joy to me and an inspiration and have taught me a lot about cooking too. Just wish I'd have known how to make some of the things I can now cook while my husband could have enjoyed that too. 😊❤

I enjoyed this video so much. Ms Lori, watching you is like spending time with a treasured friend. When you were talking about lard, I had to smile. Both my grandmas and my mom used lard like there was no tomorrow. You can't beat lard for frying chicken or making piecrust! And when mom got older, she switched to shortening and her pies were still delicious. Nearly 2 years ago, we sold our farmhouse and moved to a smaller place to be nearer to our family. It's a nice little brick home, but the closets are very small. We're like you and Mr Brown. We hold onto our clothes for a long time and use our old ones so our "good stuff" doesn't get stained and worn out so fast. My daughter encouraged me to try on all my clothes. If I didn't like how it felt or looked, it got donated. I've done this a few times and it has helped whittle down my clothes. The other thing I've done is take off-season stuff out of the closet and pack it in my suitcases that sit on my closet floor. I do think most of us have more than what we need. My favorite old clothes are probably 30 years old--soft, worn cotton, lol.

I visited my grandmother each summer. During that time others would come by, and she would always say, “never mind, we’ll do the dishes later”…..I hated that! One time I asked her why she liked doing dishes SO MUCH! She explained as she handled each bowl or plate, all mismatched from years of dinner sets and many children….”I can enjoy the time we all spent together once again by each plate we wash.” How one person ate from this one, and how they looked, their smile, their voice, how they used Great Grandmother’s last remaining spoon in the drawer from her set…the jelly jar glasses she saved from the jelly that she ate on her toast each morning for the younger kids. She gave me the joy of washing dishes from her stories….I still do dishes by hand, and rarely use the dishwasher. It was the same way with hanging out laundry. We would “visit” as we hung out laundry, paying close attention to where each piece of clothing commanded its rightful spot on the clothesline, all in perfect order~~ Thanks for reminding me Miss Lorie…..
