I agree 100%. I was born and raised in TN.. with strong family ties in Arkansas. Family get togethers once a week was huge. But, I was shoo'd out of the kitchen with all the kids. I've had to teach myself the meals I grew up on. When I found your channel, I was singing like the angels.. lol.

I smile every time I see you and your husband give each other that look. 😃So like my husband and myself. Love is absolutely wonderful. I don’t make Thanksgiving dinner anymore like I have done since we were married 53 years ago. For two years now my daughter in law and our son do the cooking at their home. Our son loves to cook and is always making delicious meals. Oh! I do make pies, and a favorite of the grandchildren on Thanksgiving and Xmas is the orange jello, pineapple, marshmallows and cool whip salad. Not really a traditional dish but they love it. Thanks for your hard work with making these videos on top of your everyday work. I love to see what you have all around you home, on counters, shelves etc, while your cooking. So cozy and warm. Enjoy your beautiful day!

That sounds very similar to a salad my family has always made, we call it 5 Way Salad or Cuppa Salad… you just mix together one cup each of sour cream, pineapple tidbits, mandarin oranges, miniature marshmallows, and flaked coconut!🙏❤️

And I love how 'real' you are....you are always talking about something or fixing something that takes me back to some of the best days of my life! My husband and I also spend a lot of time in our kitchen or doing little chores together, I'm so tickled to see someone else having as much fun as we do!!! Oh....and I have dirty dishes too!! I've found over the years that happiness is not quite as neat & tidy as others try to make it look. lol Thanks so much for doing these videos, they always make me feel so happy!!!

I love making cornmeal dressing, slice it into individual servings, then vacuum seal and freeze them. OH MY GOODNESS!!! When thawed and re-heated, they are so moist and flavorful. For a strong turkey/chicken flavor, I bake my turkey/chicken to golden and then I boil it. But, I never use a whole bird, just the legs, thighs, and wings that I can buy separately for the dressing. Then the whole bird for the meal. I know it is an extra step, but the flavor is a whole lot stronger than when they are just boiled. Since there is only me, I have all the time in the world. I can't wait to try your recipe! I LOVE CORNBREAD DRESSING (and it shows!! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!) God Bless you all and thank you for sharing!!

I do that when I make chicken soup. The roasted chicken gives the soup such good flavor. But usually I make it from a leftover roasted chicken. Waste not want not! Got to get every morsel off that bird!

This is very much the same as the dressing my family has passed down through the generations. I was so blessed that I was able to learn by watching my Grandma from a chair pulled up to the counter... precious memories! It's been said that mine is closer to Grandma's than any of the other aunts and cousins....I just chalk it up to being able to watch, not just look at a recipe. (My Grandma had 14 kids...7 of each...so that's a big compliment!) Ours has a little more bread, about half and half cornbread to bread (or maybe even a little more bread) but the results are probably very close! We cook our celery in onions in a whole stick of butter, and season similarly. As I said yesterday after the turkey video, we have started buying whole turkeys and cutting the leg quarters off. I stew the thighs (or more recently, used the smart pot) and use that meat and broth in the dressing. The guys like the drumsticks put on the smoker with the turkey breast. Turkey is a really good value if you don't mind swinging the butcher knife! 😉 Now all I need is a pot of giblet gravy to really feel the full effects of this craving for dressing...and a side of sweet potato souffle with crunchy pecan and brown sugar topping would seal the deal! 😋 Thank you for making this video, Mrs Lori...it will definitely get shared! Each year I have someone ask me for "the recipe" for my dressing. I start by telling them back in the summer put your extra biscuits in the freezer....get those out, etc. 😳 "No, no.... the recipe!" 😂 I tell them to come over sometime, pull up a chair (no need to stand in it!) and watch. Sometimes there really is no recipe, it's just knowing what Grandma did and then keep trying till you get it almost as good as hers.... there's really no substitute in the world for her cooking, standing next to her in a chair while she cooks, or eating at her Thanksgiving table. 😔 I hope everyone remembers that time with family is the most important thing about the holidays. Go see your Grandma and Grandpa while you can! 💗

I am seventy two and learned how to make corn bread dressing from my fathers Mother when very young. So VERY old recipe LOL. Thought you might be interested hers was kind of similar but she only used cornbread and biscuits in hers. She used the onions, celery, sage, poultry season, butter, broth. she also added chopped boiled eggs. Instead of the chicken, she used the giblets and chopped them...anyway thought it interesting how things haven’t changed a whole lot. Bless you.

We had Thanksgiving yesterday due to family work schedules and I made this dressing. It’s the best I have ever made. It will be my go to from now on. I have watched all your videos and have learned so much. I just love that old fashioned home cooking. I truly have much to be thankful for this thanksgiving. Four months ago my husband and I drove out to Colorado and the long drive helped me to develop a blood clot in my legs. A week after we got home that blood clot travelled to my heart and lungs and I had 90 minutes of CPR. I clinically died that day. The nurses said they had never heard anyone pray like my daughter did that moment. I thank The Lord that He spared my life. I just went back to my job as a registered nurse and I just praise the Lord. Prayers for you and your family to have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving🤎

We make our stuffing with a pan of cornbread and a pan of biscuits mixed together with 6 eggs and chicken stock as well as onions and celery. We stuff the turkey with this but you can always put it in a pan and cook it in the oven. We use poultry seasoning, sage and thyme. My mother was from Savannah and this is how her family always cooked it. Yours looks a bit different but it looks good. One of these days I'm going to try it out. Your lunch lady cinnamon rolls are a big hit with my husband, brother in law, nephews and as always all my grandkids. Thank you for sharing and God Blesss your family.

I literally just finished watching the turkey breast video. My mom taught me to season under the skin and cook it breast down and you are right....it produces amazing results. Your dressing is a bit of a cross between mine and my mom's. I LOVE the chicken added into it and we have that for a meal all during the year. I can almost smell this as you're making it. I'm so glad you're doing these this week. We all need to get our minds on being thankful and the relaxing comfort of holidays and family. This recipe is just so close to how I make it with one change and one addition. My grandma always added a few chopped up hard boiled eggs to it! If you have never tried it that way, you should try it. The change we make is we make basically our own cream of chicken, not anything bought. In these times though many prefer the store bought to save time. I love cooking and it doesn't bother me being in cooking all day, it is my happy place! Thanks for sharing all your wonderful homestyle recipes. Good for the soul. hugs & prayers from Alabama

SO GOOD! I made the skillet cornbread and served it with thanksgiving dinner. It was buttery and absolutely delicious! I loved your tip to preheat the skillet before pouring in the batter so the bottom gets crispy. Everyone loved it! I also made your mac & cheese, best mac & cheese I have ever had. Thank you for sharing, these will be go to recipes for me from now on! Next time I will have to try the dressing recipe but this corn bread alone is magical!

My grandmother always made our dressing for the holidays and we've never found a recipe for it. So since she passed away, we've been buying our dressing from a restaurant that tasted similar to hers. I have always wanted to try making it myself and I think after watching your video, I will do just that! I love watching your videos and the ease you have when cooking, sharing, and teaching. Thank you for sharing all you do!

Very similar to my family dressing except we don’t use crackers and we don’t put meat in the dressing. We make the broth by cooking the turkey neck and giblets but discard everything but the broth. Several family members are not vegetarians but eat meat only sparingly. We do like a good amount of sage. We also make a smaller pan and add oysters. I make it the same way my mom and grandmother made it and add stale cubed white bread to the cornbread. Dressing is my favorite dish at Thanksgiving with corn pudding second. Thanks for your videos, always love watching!❤️

I’m gonna give this cornbread dressing a try. We live in California and my Son in Law is from Alabama, maybe it will make him feel like he’s home, I know his family eats cornbread dressing, so I’m gonna give it a try. Wish me well 😉

I grew up in Maryland during the 1950-60s and we ate Southern but mom usually made bread stuffing along with the cornbread dressing. I then lived most of my life in Texas with a Texan wife who refused to make bread stuffing. I'm 70 and still can't stand cornbread dressing as it's like a mouthful of sand! LOL

I put toasted bread cubes in with my cornbread that keeps it from being just a sandy mess. I also season mine with rubbed sage. It turns out really light an moist.

@@rogerhuber3133 I think everyone makes their cornbread dressing a little different. I make it the way my Nanny taught me. It turns out the same pretty much every time. Since I only do it once a year, everyone likes it the same way. lol

Ok Ms Lori - I made cornbread dressing for the first time and I used your recipe. What a great start! I decided that I’m never using a box mix for cornbread again - oh my gosh your cornbread recipe is excellent and so easy. We’re about to dig in to this dressing and I’m excited to try it. Thank you, again! 🦃❤️🍽

This looks DELICIOUS and so different from what we had growing up. My mother always put finely chopped hard boiled egg in her Cornbread dressing and of course, I do the same. I will have to try this for something different. Thanksgiving is just not the same without Cornbread Dressing! Thank you for another mouth-watering video.

I just finished watching your slow cooker turkey breast video when this one came up..good timing!...I have made cornbread dressing a few times, my family made light (white) bread dressing. My husbands family were from Arkansas so they always made the cornbread dressing. They are all gone now so if we want cornbread dressing I put together how I think my mother in law did it. I have learned from this video, mine is good, but I think what I am taking away from this will make it even better..Thank you for sharing!
