I had a door gap that was slightly wider at the top. I loosened all 4 screws on the top fridge side hinge and then I was able to shift ithe door slightly, now the alignment is perfect. There are 2 screws up there that you don’t normally take out to remove the hinge, loosening those will free up the hinge anchor plate under the top skin and give you a little bit of adjustment.

Our fridge is a GE side by side manufactured in 2004. We just purchased it used a couple of weeks ago. The door alignment was off enough that the doors were scraping each other at the top when opening and closing the doors. When closed, the top of the doors were nearly touching, with the bottom having a decent gap. We had tried all the recommended adjustments, but nothing was helping. We had not taken the doors off ourselves. Turns out that even though the top hinges seemed right, we had them installed on the wrong sides. Switched them, and now the doors work properly.

I have the same fridge. I got it 8 years ago at Lowe’s and even tho it brags about this 6th sense temperature sensor system I have never had any luck with that. It always freezes my lower crispers and ruins produce and has from day one and I get frozen milk up above. Idk how many times I have to adjust the temp up and down myself to get any type of consistency. It’s so annoying. It even has ice stuck to the bottom of the blend door housing that says conquest on it. I do hear the door working. It drips water from that housing and gets into the cheese drawer lunch meat area. I have even had it freeze my pop cans and explode them and that’s even in the recommended cooling setting. The freezer and ice maker are flawless and I do clean the rear drain and cooling fins with a vacuum every few years. This fridge has always had a very erratic temperature in the fridge section since new.

Well I was hoping you would show how to use the blue rubber alignment tool. It is in our owners manual (separate sheet) how to use it but it didn’t work for us. It said to use a hex wrench loosen the hinge screws two complete turns and insert the alignment tool. 🤷🏼‍♀️ we did that ,hardly moved the doors. Even our Lowes salesman’s told us he had to do it too as his doors were touching near the top. So I don’t think it’s a defect or a warranty complaint because we have a worksheet telling how to fix it. Lol we must be too old to get it done. Thank you for your time and making of the video.

I am not exactly sure which piece you are referring to. To my knowledge there is no steel rack. At least not on ours. There is a place at the top for a butter tray, that you may or may not be able to get. There is also a plastic piece that sticks out. This is designed to push on the light switch to turn off the light when you close the door.

I had a new Model WRS321SDHZ08 side by side delivered today. The vertical gap between the freezer door and fridge door is noticeably way out of alignment. The gap at the top is around 1/2" but it narrows to about 1/4" at the bottom. The refrigerator is dead level vertically and horizontally. Also, there is a noticeable rubbing sound emanating from the refrigerator side door when opening and closing it, I assume from the vertical misalignment. How can a person align the doors vertically to have a consistent gap from top to bottom?

This has been one of the most problematic questions to answer. And one that I dig into from time to time. Our fridge came with a 'kit' that contained a little rubber T shaped kit and instructions that was supposed to add with door leveling. Somehow we discarded ours. Every document that I can find says that you can only level the doors up and down only. No way to adjust the gap. But at least one other user claims that instructions do exist to adjust the gap. I will try digging again to see if I can find something that may help.

Hi, I'm considering buying this fridge and am wondering if you've experienced any issues with the ice maker or cooling? I heard there was a class action lawsuit over a defect in this fridge, so wondering about your experience.

So far we have not experienced either of the two "big" issues that people are seeing. The biggest one being the broken wiring harness at the bottom of the door, and the second being the ice maker just breaking. From a cooling perspective, ours has been perfect. We have only seen two things. Once, we had a Error code E01 that was resolved by a powercycle. Hasn't returned since it happened the one time. We do see some small micro cracks in the corner of the door bins. It happens to also be the two that I use as a handle when closing the door. The ones I do not touch do not have the cracks. So who knows. They are not functional cracks. The bins still work perfectly fine. Keep in mind that we only have the wife and I. So throwing kids into the mix could wear one out faster. As far as the lawsuit and things, that is always a slippery slope of missing context. While I can see that the design on the wiring harness is not the best, I would love to see what percentage are failing. If you make 100,000 and 100 break then it is only .1%. But the internet and media can make 100 people sound like a majority. Making it so the door is filled with spray foam, which requires replacing the entire door as the official fix, doesn't help their image any. All I can say at the end of the day is that so far we do not regret buying it. For the price, it was the best option for us. But we do not have any insight into just how many people have had issues. If you can find a consumer reports article it might shed more light on it.

I just purchased the refrigerator and had it installed last week and really like it thus far. One thing I noticed I wanted to ask you about. The left hand door the bottom half of it sticks out a little further and is not even with the right hand side door. They're even at the top but a little off starting halfway down. The doors are even from vertically top and bottom. It's just the left door is a little bit further away from the seal in the closed position then the right hand door. Is that something I can adjust myself or should I call Whirlpool?

As a general rule, any time something is new and under warranty still, I always recommend going through proper channels first. The last thing you want is for them to deny a broken warranty item because you tried to fix it yourself first, and no one knows their products better than the people who work on them every day. I could overlook something. Having said that, this does not sound normal and does not sound like something that can be adjusted out. In fact, it screams bent/malformed or loose hinge to me. For the most part the only adjustments these doors have are up and down on the fridge side door and a gap adjustment using the little T-Handle that comes with it. Nothing on the freezer side is supposed to be adjustable from my understanding. If you want to peak at the manual check page 19 - 27 from the manual. You can see a digital version here: www.manua.ls/whirlpool/wrs588fihz/manual?p=24 (This covers multiple versions BTW) As you can see, there aren't really any adjustments that would affect what you are seeing. I have a feeling you need a repair in this case. But either way these pages should give you enough to at least stare and compare with yours. Hope this helps.

I just called Costco and they're going to arrange for a replacement. But in the meantime I got on the kitchen floor and with my foot kept pressing very hard on the lower right hand corner of the right door. I did that a few times. As a result it comes out a little bit but I'm thinking about just keeping it because it looks much better. If I get the new one it could have the same issue or even worse. I'm not so sure any of these refrigerators would be perfect. Now that I've pushed that in and it looks much better do you think I should keep it? I'm leaning that way but would love to get your input. This refrigerator is all set up working great.

@@tampajim100 Based on that explanation I think something was definitely damaged. And if that damage was caused by a drop then other things could also be broken that you can't even see. And if they don't fail now they could fail later. Personally I would want a new one. But as you said, "Devil you know, versus the one you don't". So in this case, I would say definitely your choice. But I would take the replacement myself.

Just plain silver color. Called the place we purchased it ( from Scratch and Dent place) said they probably just threw them in - not to worry about them. lol ok! It does take a long while to stabilize the temps. I think the manual states 72 hours before ice starts. So not abnormal to seem like it takes forever to get going.

Hi I have a question on how to hook the fridge with water line. I just got a new one of the same model, and I find a rolled up plastic tube inside the fridge. Do I take it out to hook it up to water line?

No. The rolled up tube inside a fridge is for chilling water. That tube runs through the fridge wall to the back water connector of the fridge itself. The connections will always be from the back of the fridge to the wall and you will need to buy your own tubing generally.

So I am not an expert on all of these. And different models have different types of ice makers. Our model has no reset button. But there is a power switch behind the bin. It also doesn't start making ice for about 72 hours after you first plug it in. Worst case scenario, unplugging the fridge for a few minutes should serve the same function as a reset.

ThaNKS For the video. Our LG French door fridge took a crap, garbage refrigerator btw, per our tech. We had purchased this same unit as you did as we are very familiar and love the whirlpool brand. How do you adjust the lighting for the ice and water maker? It stays on for a long time. I read the manual and it says you can't. Would you happen to know of a way?

I know you can change when the lights come on. But I don't think you can change the length of time it stays on. We have ours turned off unless you press a paddle. I will check again tonight.

I have a problem. I don’t have an issue with my doors my problem is water filter. I was changing the water filter. When I opened the door a white piece fell off. I don’t know how to put it back in place so the door will auto eject the filter when opening. Also the water filter is stuck. How to get it out??

So that can be a little complicated. Basically, most of these work purely off the laws of Thermodynamics. Hot versus cold condenses water out of the air and into the tray while humidity levels, air flow and temperature cause the condensed water to evaporate back into air again.If a room is exceptionally hot or the room is exceptionally humid then you will get more condensing than normal. Too much can fill the tray faster. The dryer the air and the more air flow over top of it helps the water to evaporate faster. So if the airflow is blocked or if the humidity is super high that could slow down the evaporation rate. Those really are about the only things. Unless you have an active system that uses a sump pump and a drain hose those are really the only factors in play. As an example, a garage fridge would have a much harder time than one in the house. Where the AC keeps the house less humid and less hot. Basically inside the house, the AC unit is already taking humidity out of the air for you and dumping it into a drain usually.

Question for you. How do you know what the actual temperature is in the two zones? How do you know if the temperature has risen due to a door leak for example?

There are thermometers you can purchase to set inside each section if this is a concern for you. We keep one on hand in case of emergencies. Might do a deep dive to see if there is a product that would be more intuitive with temp raises.

@@robertojasso1866 When you first plug these in it can take around 72 hours for everything to stabilize. It basically takes a while for all the contents, including plastic and metal parts, to get down to temperature. Once it finally reaches that equilibrium then it will only need to turn on the compressor every so often. But yes, it is normal for it run run non stop for the first few days as it stabilizes.

The water coming out isn't chilled. How do I fix this?

So there really isn't a lot of technology in most modern low to mid-range fridges. Basically they all have a coiled plastic line or a reservoir that sits inside the fridge that is passively cooled. The same as if you sat a water bottle on the shelf. Because of this it takes many days after initial plugin before the temps start to fully stabilize. And even then, if someone uses all of the cold water from the line, it can take hours before it cools down again. On this specific model you will see an S shaped bulge sitting to the left hand side of the back wall behind the second to bottom shelf. That tiny thing is the cold water reservoir. As you can see it isn't that big. And it isn't very cold by our standards. The water coming out of ours is 56F or 13C degrees. To be honest we don't even use it usually. I run water through it every so often to keep the water from getting stale. But otherwise I use our filtered water from our sink and then use ice from the fridge. I like my water so cold your teeth hurt. I have heard that some high end systems might use an active cooling system. Similar to a water cooler in your office. But I have never seen one. I think some mid range models are better at using freezer air also to get it a little bit colder. But becasue of the risk of accidentally freezing the lines I doubt many use this. So, long story short, if you are getting water out of the dispenser then everything is working fine. You are likely just hitting the wall that is how long it takes this design to cool water, how cool it is even capable of getting down to, and how much it can provide before needing to recharge again.

just purchased same fridge freezer. in store doors where almost perfect. after delivery and removing doors to get in house when they put doors back on alienment way off on freezer side and not a proper seal. Fridge is level and solid any ideas nothing looks bent?

Honestly, if you had someone else performing delivery and setup in an official capacity, then I would push on them to take the responsibility of coming back out and fixing it or sending a certified tech. Trying to fix/adjust anything yourself gives them a way out of taking the responsibility of not doing things correctly themselves as they can simply claim that you broke something trying to work on it yourself. To my knowledge, based on the manual, there is no official adjustment to the freezer side door.Only the fridge side. The only thing on the freezer side is making sure the holes line up when putting the screws/bolts back together. Which gets scary when people start using power tools to insert fasteners like that on a weighted device. The ability to cross thread things and cause actual damage is real. So in this case, my advice is to push back on the delivery/setup company to come back out.

Just had mine delivered today. Had the same issue. The freezer door is about 1/4" further "out" than the fridge side door. Looks sealed ok but it just sticks out further. Was that your problem as well?

@@HDMann292 The installers came back and said the weatherstripping on the freezer side was just thicker. Nothing could be done. Luckily Costco is allowing me to exchange it for the same model for being "damaged" . The replacement arrives Thursday. If the replacement has the same issue, I will just have to get some large clamps and see if I can compress the freezer door to close further.

@@larz28 receive mine last week same issue. The bottom half of the freezer door is out about a quarter of an inch further than the refrigerator door. I'll give Whirlpool I'll call on Monday since it's under warranty. I like things right not out of alignment.
