You're welcome. The only concern we've really had personally with the fridge are mixrocracks in the door shelves, but we would choose it again. I just bought this model from Lowes and I just love it! I went from a 23.5 cu to this 28.4.....soooo much more space in freezer, fridge door and the depth is soo much roomier! We can fit three gallons of milk in a row, going towards the back! The refrigerator door can actually handle 6 shelves. So, I went on several parts sites to find the biggest one available, about 15 1/2 x 6 1/2. Amazon is offering two for the price of one drawer on other sites. So, I went ahead and ordered them and I'll use the extra as a backup if one should ever crack. They were two for $48.00. Hope this helps😊

Thanks for the review. I have a 12 year old version of this fridge that I’m going to need to replace soon. I’ve enjoyed the fridge design so I’m leaning towards this model again but my one hold back is that all of my drawers in the fridge are now held together with packing tape. The plastic front in all of them have broken. Have you experienced and of the fronts of the drawers breaking? Thanks
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 11 ай бұрын
The two drawers in the fridge itself have not shown any cracks. Now we admittedly do not store a ton of stuff in ours, so they do not get as much as use as yours possibly. Our door shelves have micro cracks in the corners. Right where the plastic curves around. But they seem more cosmetic than functional.

I just ordered the same fridge from Home Depot. The manufacturer failed to drill holes for the plastic light covers. I have to wait until next week for Maytag to come back and check what the issue is. We paid a lot for this fridge and the least they could do is make sure all parts are installed properly. I’m also waiting for fridge to cook down so I can put food back in. Book says wait 24 hours for temperature to regulate itself and put food in. Freezer is getting cold quickly yet fridge part is still not cool enough. How long did you guys have to wait to put food back in fridge side? Thanks for the update on your fridge.

Thanks for the review! I recently purchased the same refrigerator and after about a day started having the same water hammer like sound (it was not there at first). I checked the supply lines behind the refrigerator and taped it to see if it helped - it didn't. Also tried reducing the inlet water pressure to the minimum..no difference. Seems like something around the reservoir is vibrating (inside the refrigerator). Any thoughts? Anyone else having similar issues? I am concerned that this may eventually cause copper pipes in the house to break due to the vibration.

@charliesavoie5766

Hammering in water lines can be a sign of air in the line. When the fridge was installed, there was air in the tubing. Sometimes the solution is to turn facets on sequentially starting at the one closest to where the water enters the house from the meter. Let them run about 5 minutes and shut off in reverse order. Don't forget to flush toilets and fill some glasses with water from the fridge as well.

Hello! I have the same model. My freezer door sits a little higher than the refrigerator. This causes the seal to not be great on it. I see the bolt to raise or lower the right side but not the left. I was thinking of messing with the leveling feet. Any thoughts?
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 2 жыл бұрын
From what I can see, the leveling feet basically attach directly to the frame and only serve to raise and lower the entire fridge as a unit. So this shouldn't affect the door itself. It is true that only the fridge side has the leveling bolt to raise/lower that one side to match whatever the freezer is set to. Based on another viewers comment, it sounds like the freezer hinge brackets can be adjusted to alter the door camber. (The width of the gap between the doors) I was unable to find this procedure, but if that is true then that may allow the door to be raised or lowered as well. IE play in the hinges. But this is totally a guess. Ours has never had issues and we have never had to mess with it. I did do a closeup video of my hinge brackets for comparison on one of the videos in this series. It may or may not have value. IT might even be this video. But beware, getting these things out of whack could wind up requiring a service call. So definitely do not consider this a how to guide or anything.

Have you experienced any condensation occurring on the outer casing on the unit, particularly on the top horizontal surface left rear side or the rear vertical surface center area running the almost the full length top to bottom of the unit? The condensation on my unit is so bad that water ran down a power cord and dripped into a GCFI socket which wound up tripping and killing the power. This is a big concern to me!
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk Жыл бұрын
We have had no condensation issues. Personally it sounds like a case of cold air escaping the unit through some type of insulation/gasket failure. But just a total guess.

I have the exact refrigerator and the water randomly stopped coming out from the dispenser. I had replaced the filter when ready, drained out the amount the filter recommended with no problems. My son tried to use the measure fill feature to fill a gallon jug, so he set it to the max amount of ounces, pressed fill, a few ounces came out then it completely stopped putting out water and has not worked since. I tried removing the water filter and resetting again, but still no water coming out and it's not filling the ice maker. Do you know what could be going on?
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 8 ай бұрын
That one is weird. If you are getting water then all of the primary components are working. And changing the filter shouldn't affect that. The first thing that pops to mind is that a good power cycle might spring it back to life. Basically unplug it for a few minutes. These fridges have different styles of ice makers and some have power switches also. They wouldn't get turned off but maybe flipping the switch would also bounce it back. Sorry that I don't have a good answer on this one.

No it does not. There are just two of us, but in all fairness, we just got this yesterday. So maybe if we let it get full, before we start using it. Maybe. We have another older whirlpool that has a large, not in the door ice maker, that has all the ice you’ll ever need. So well use that as a back up. The ice cubes are kinda triangle, not the crescent shape as usual. Our fridge is loud, I think, still we have only had a day. One thing, let me say. Never buy an LG. I have been arguing with Home Depot warranty, that I paid for, since September. I had to buy an older fridge, and I am still waiting for a check. Where we live, there is no one that repairs LG appliances near me or even out of state. Just a warning. So now I have three refrigerators. The non working 3 yr old LG and the older whirlpool to tide us over until Home Depot warranty decided what they were gonna do. These are in the garage and we have to dispose of the LG ourselves 🤦🏼‍♀️, and the new one, that was delivered yesterday. I do like the new one, it just doesn’t seem to make enough ice.

@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I can't guarantee how well it will fit. But I can tell you this. When you open the door so that it is at a 90 degree angle then the front of the door and the side of the fridge are almost identically spaced. The door is maybe a 1/4 inch closer to the wall than the side of the fridge. So in my opinion the door will open but the handle will hit the wall about 2" before it is at a 90 degree angle. So that would make it useable but would make removing the drawers complicated and likely make the point where the automatic hold open point is unreachable. IE the door will also self close unless you are holding. This is whoever an opinion based on a lot of assumptions about your layout (IE one side is completely against a wall). I hope that helps. Honestly when a fridge is required to sit completely next to a wall, I do not recommend a SxS design but rather the top bottom design where a door only opens in one direction.

@TheProjectHelpDesk 6 ай бұрын
Depending on the type of ice build up, it could be a number of things. A badly unlevel fridge is one of those. Too far off level and the water could spill over easier as it sloshes in. To be honest it is a hard thing to diagnose remotely. Oddly enough, it could just be evaporation/condensation. We get ice build up under our ice bin. It resembles a snowy buildup. I pull the ice bin outs about nonce s year for cleaning and use that time to remove the built up ice.

We will do a test on Friday night and empty the ice maker and see how full it is on Saturday morning when we wake up. I think it took 24 hours actually for it to fully fill up. There was a text overlay at about 9:00 mark with 24 hours. The 5:07 time is most about the ice maker in terms of how many cups it took for us to empty it, but we'll do that test to see how much ice is there after fully emptying the night before. We'll do that test. It shouldn't take too long to film & edit that information for you so you can visually see how much is in there from empty to next morning. Reason why we would wait until Friday / Saturday is there isn't any time to film in the morning before he goes to work. But we'll let you know by Saturday evening/Sunday morning at the latest. @TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 2 жыл бұрын
CYA Statement: "Always follow manufacturers recommendations" ----- Now that that part is over ---- I personally think this is a very good point. I like to change mine every so often because as the filter and o-rings get older they can get brittle and may cause issues when you eventually want to remove them. I only use mine for ice also. We have a sink mounted RO system that we use for drinking and we are on well water. So I think it is a good idea to change them every so often, just so the parts don't degrade too much and risk leaking. But i personally just reset the change water filter until I feel like it has been long enough.Also, I am sure that most water lines are not perfect and there might be something floating around past your filter that could break loose eventually and hit the filter. So again, probably a good idea to change them every so often. I plan on changing mine out every 12 - 18 months.

Do you know what the top notches are for on the frig door where the bins go?
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk Жыл бұрын
So that one is tricky. We actually did do some digging. Here is what we found. Basically, it sounds like they make this same basic fridge for multiple brands. One of the brands actually comes with an egg /butter shelf with a plastic door. There is one that 'might' fit but apparently at some point either the shelf or the door changed and while it 'Kind of' fits some people have complained about it not fitting correctly. If you want to see the part number of the one in question you can see it here: amzn.to/3SK9TSr Now that one is expensive as crap and is shipped from and sold by a company in China. There are a lot of knockoffs on the Zon around $70 and some as low as $30 from other companies. Which is still ridiculous for one shelf. That is why we never gambled and tried ordering it. But if you want to see what we think fits there, just do a generic google on "WPW10324760". This is what we THINK is designed to go there.

On our model you just press then . It appears that this setting is not permanent however. It temporarily lowers the the freezer temp for 24 hours so that ice will freeze faster. Setting the freezer to a colder temperature may make some foods, such as ice cream, harder."

One possibility is air. Make sure you have purged all the air from the system. Run a lot of cold water through the system as it will keep purging air for some time. If that doesn't do it then in this case you might want to call about a service call. It sounds like yours might be DOA. From what I can tell, the icemaker mechanism is very much a self contained unit that doesn't really have a lot of parts that you either can or need to repair. If you can hear it turning then you know you have power. If the water dispenser on the door is working then you should have water. Since you got some ice cubes we know that the basic functionality is there. The only pieces really left are a timer mechanism and the little bar that drops down to check to see if there is enough ice already present. If it is new and under warranty then I would say that this qualifies for a warranty issue.
@TheProjectHelpDesk

As a side note, it takes about 72 for the system to fully stabilize so it may just be getting to a point where it starts working normally. Hope that helps.

Just tried to change the water filter on my Whirlpool fridge just like yours and the new filter will not stay in. It pops out when I try to dispense water and leaks water all over the top shelf. It's a factory filter just like the one it came with. I have no clue what to do about it.
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk Жыл бұрын
Weird. I assume the old one goes back in correctly right? If so then it sounds like something might be wrong with it. I do know that sometimes a new one can be a little tighter. Pressing the water dispenser activates the solenoid that opens the water valve and thus applies the pressure to the system. When closed there is less pressure so to speak. So it sounds like something isn't properly locking and when the pressure hits it, it pops it out. So that would make me think that the door isn't locking. Which could be a malformed plastic pin on the filter or similar. Just a thought. I know at least one person in these comments had an issue with the insertion and they wound up cutting off that plastic pin. (Standard CYA DISCLAIMER: I Do not recommend doing that)

@TheProjectHelpDesk Жыл бұрын
So the answer to this is a little complicated. To be honest, I think you can make it work. But it will likely be very tight, take a lot of planning and maneuvering and might result in a ding or two. Here is what I can tell you. The big rectangular shell that it is the actual fridge box is 29" on our model. So in theory, taking the doors off gets you down to this. However, the doors are attached to brackets which mount on front of the 29" box. So even with the doors off you have a little extra bit of brackets sticking out. The top ones are much easier to remove. But the bottom ones are a little more involved becasue of the water lines coming into play. Technically these brackets appear to be removable even though they aren't really listed as that in the instruction manual. (If they put it together, then surely it can come apart right??) You also have water lines sticking out the back. And even though they are pretty flush (1/4 inch roughly), the chance of damaging them isn't exactly 0%. So if you feel technically able to take off some extra pieces and have enough proper tools and helpers to gently pull it through then I think it will work. BUT I also think it will be very tight and you could hit a snag that I am not thinking of. Hope that helps.

Not sure if you meant the house door or the fridge door.. We removed the screen door closer because that bracket stuck out too far. We did not remove the house door. The installers from Lowe's just opened both doors on the fridge to make it skinnier and then basically came through the door that way. To be honest, our model does not have that feature so I am not very familiar with it. However, in general, I always start off an issue like this with a powercycle. Basically unplug the system for about 5 mins and then plug it back in. This often resolves issues were the electronic 'computer' essentially locks up. From reading the manual, all you do is repeat the process to turn it off. So if the power cycle doesn't work, you might have to call a repair tech.

@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 2 ай бұрын
That switch behind the ice bin, is the closest thing to a reset switch. It powers down the whole unit. So if you power cycled that for 5 mins then it sounds like you have done the reset. One other thing that I have heard about, is the water line to the ice maker freezing up. Unfortunately, the only way to test that theory would be to thaw everything out. There are really only three main components to the icemaker setup. The control board, the wiring and the ice maker itself. These ice makers, referring to the little unit above the bin, do fail. So that could be your issue also. Just from the things I have seen on the internet, it seems that the ice maker itself is the most likely component to go bad. But there is no guarantee. You might be in a situation where paying a professional to give you the diagnosis is the cheapest and best option. Unless you want to start shot gunning parts at it, which can get expensive. On a side note, sometimes the wiring harness can break the wire but not the insulation. So a wire can look like it is good but be failed internally. About the only troubleshooting I can think of is to verify that you hear the ice arm drop down every so often. I forget how often, but it does an ice level check every hour or so. You can hear the motor turning as it drops the arm down. But even if that part isn't working, we still have three different 'parts' that could be the root cause. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

This model is different. The in door one uses an actual power switch behind the ice bin to cut it on and off. The arm actually stays up under normal conditions, and does an occasional level check. So unlike most of the n freezer models, this arm should never be manually manupulated.

So far we have not regretted it. We have had ours for two years now and we have only had two 'complaints'. Some of the bins in the door have developed small micro cracks in the curved corners These have not affected them functionally. One time we got an E1 error (Sensor Error) that resolved after a powercycle. This occurred not too long after power outages and has not returned since the powercycle. I would recommend checking the comments in all of the videos in this playlist as it includes some complaints that others have seen that we have not. Such as leaking water lines at the bottom of the freezer door. We have not had that issue.

So I will preface this with, we did not buy this part. Partly because of the price. Partly due to uncertainty. But back when we bought ours I did a little research and I 'THINK' that the part number for the butter tray that fits this is W10324760 or WPW10324760. However I ran into various comments that seemed in imply that it used to fit this fridge and no longer does in the newest models. So this really is a YMMV situation. But as I understand it, this model butter dish only goes at the very top of the door and should fit this model. If you decide to gamble then I would I would suggest going though somewhere with an easy return policy just in case. @@TheProjectHelpDesk Great! I already watched them all! Yeah, It doesn't make much sense to me. If you were able to unroll the tubing it would probably be over 5 feet long. Connected to a grey tube with a connector of sorts. It is held there with zip-ties. Idk
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReverseProof So that coil of tubing is actually the Chilled Water Reservoir. A very cheap version of one, I admit. Basically the fridge makers needed a way to have tap water lose heat quickly. The easiest 'radiator' they could build with existing parts was to simply coil up some tubing in the bottom of the fridge. They are usually always in the bottom where the cold air settles and tucked behind the drawers. Our old fridge that we replaced had the exact same setup. The longer the length, the more 'cold' water it can hold. That design also ensures that the cold water doesn't mix with the incoming room temp water. And the smaller the tubing the higher surface area to water volume you have and the faster it can cool down. Our current fridge actually replaced this with an S shaped reservoir about the diameter of a half dollar and tucked behind the back wall. It bulges into the fridge. It takes longer to cool and doesn't seem to last as long. I actually prefer that older design with the coiled tube. We actually plan on mentioning that as part of the 18 month follow-up review. The other advantage is that it is easy to add capacity to that system if you wanted a crap ton more cold water available :)
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReverseProof One caveat. If it is the 'exact' same then you would see an S shaped bulge on the back and I would think that maybe someone else 'fixed' it. Hi! I have this same fridge. Is there an ice maker reset? It’s less than a year old. Mine stopped making ice and other whirlpool fridges have a reset button but I can’t find it on this one - all I can find is the on and off switch. Thanks! Or maybe someone has another idea how I can get it working?
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk 2 жыл бұрын
So I have never seen an actual reset button/switch on this model and I do not see anything in the manual about one. As far as I am aware, that power switch behind the bin is the only thing that exists. And if you do power cycle, it should be about 10 mins to allow the thing to completely reset itself. There really isn't a lot of pieces to the puzzle. If the chilled water is getting water then the ice maker should be too. If you power cycle it, I think you will here it go through a 'cycle' not too long after you power it back up. Then you know the mechanicals are mostly sane. The only other puzzle piece is arm that check to see the ice level. While some articles mention moving it around, that isn't really a good idea on this model in my opinion. It appears to be solidly gear drive and likely to strip out if forced. I haven't wanted to try it in fear of breaking mine :) One last thing that doesn't hurt is a complete powerdown/warm up. Basically empty the contents and unplug it so that everything reaches room temp and thaws out. Then plug it back up and let it go back through the cooldown cycle. But that is drastic. I have seen very few of these things stop working for reasons other than 'it just broke'. But as always I am certainly not a professional at small appliance repair.

@@lukiedukie2007 Honestly, a basic power-cycle is as easy as unplugging the fridge for 10 mins and plugging it back in. Basically just like if the power were to go out. This allows the electromechanical and or electronic devices to reset themselves. IN the old days this was the only way to power cycle an ice maker. More recently they added reset buttons and power switches. But unplugging the unit should simulate the same thing. It isn't a guarantee that it will fix anything but it is a good first step. Similar to rebooting a computer as step one of troubleshooting.

Then our two shelves that can be moved we out our eggs on the middle shelf. That shelf we use for open goods like open bags of cheese or canisters or any short thing that fits there. So I don't know if I will be much use in this case. Since we don't have that model I do not have one to look at to compare. However here is what I was able to find and some things that I know. One fridge we had, would always cycle the ice maker anytime it was power cycled. Even after the power would go off for a few minutes. Basically it seemed there was something hard coded that upon power-up it went through a self test cycle to reset itself. When new, it would be empty or unfrozen and the push feet that normally push the ice out would push through the water and restart the ice timer. If yours does this, and the water happens to be frozen then it would drop ice like you are seeing. So then the only piece of the puzzle becomes, 1) Is the unit fully activated? And 2) is something broken? If everything was working fine and suddenly stopped then I would suspect number 2. If it happened after someone tinkered with things then 1 becomes a possibility. I will post a little more shortly with some links for you to look at.

OK< So from that model number it appears your fridge is this one: www.whirlpool.com/results.html?term=WRS321SDHZ&tab=clp&plp=&plpView=list&clp=wrs321sdhz www.whirlpool.com/content/dam/global/documents/202204/owners-manual-w11484052-revc.pdf Their website was being particularly crappy today. Unfortunately there are a lot of different styles listed in that manual so I can't be sure which one you have. Long story short there are really only two settings. One being the power switch and the other being the metal arm that checks ice level. (If you have that model) As long as the switch is on and the metal bar is not up in the off position then the configuration is correct. So that would likely leave a bad switch/sensor on the icemaker itself. But again, I am certainly no expert. And without getting my hands on it I am speculating a lot. That probably doesn't help a whole lot but hopefully it gives you a good direction of who to talk to and what to check.

One last item, while I cannot be certain of what model yours is, I suspect it is likely like the ones in this list: amzn.to/3aOYLlF So in case it is broken that would give you an idea of some of the replacement options. Both cheap aftermarket as well as the OEM which is almost $300. You can also check out this site for more options. Including additional model codes. While I have never ordered from them, they seem to have accurate parts diagrams so far when I looked up my unit. www.reliableparts.com/search?q=WRS321SDHZ+ Most of the 8 versions of your model number use that model ice maker above above. But some of them use the small version like our fridge has. Basically the one in the door itself appears to use something similar to this: amzn.to/3RKUUH4 That looks like ours. While the ones in the freezer itself instead of the door appear to be the link above. I hope that helps and my apologies if it rambled all over the place.

@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk Жыл бұрын
Taste is always a can of worms. Everyone has different opinions on what is good and what isn't. The other battle you have is the old Garbage In/Garbage Out scenario. Filters can only do so much. So depending on the quality of your incoming water it may be hard to change it. Personally, I would test the water right out of the water line connection at the fridge and compare it to the taste coming from the fridge itself. If it actually tastes better from the wall than it does from the fridge then you know you have a fridge issue. If it is the same or a little worse, then it might just be a case of a simple carbon filter not being able to keep up. We personally use a Reverse Osmosis System at our house. This is about the cleanest you can make water short of distilling it. Our system also puts minerals back into the water so it tastes very much like a mineral water you buy from a store.

We will do a temp check for you later today. We rarely use the water from the fridge since we have a filter water faucet on our sink. I'm pretty sure it's closer to room temp, but I will let you know what the thermometer tells us.
@TheProjectHelpDesk
@TheProjectHelpDesk Жыл бұрын
So, the water dispenser has always been a sore point honestly. It is technically passively chilled. Meaning there is either a wound up section of tubing behind the bottom drawers or a small reservoir mounted on the back wall. These fill with water and slowly 'chill' the water inside. This means that only a small amount of chilled water is actually available before the water line temperature water just runs right through it. In my test I ran 24 ounces of cold water from the dispenser. The overall temp was 48 degrees in the cup. I tested a tea pitcher in the fridge and it was 38 degrees. So the entire reservoir emptied and warmer water started to mix in. A 2nd 24 ounce cup was 56 degrees and a third 24 ounce cup came out at 59 degrees. 59 degrees was also the temperature of the water coming out of our water line directly. So you basically get about 12 ounces of fridge temp water and then it quickly warms to whatever the temp is coming from your water supply.
