Saved my ass. Really didn’t want to have to disconnect the hoses and take the cabinet off. Managed to change the pump in 10 minutes, 7 of which were spent trying to find pliers big enough to unhook the clamps 😂. Thanks bud

OMG! I was literally 5 minutes away from going to look for a new washer and dryer set because mine are old and have had a few prior repairs. I thought for sure I was going to have to either put a few hundred more dollars into calling a repair person vs just biting the bullet and buying a new set. I just HAPPENED to find your video and thought "hey, I can do that. It's worth a try!" I was lucky to find a pump replacement at a local appliance repair shop, and the rest is history! Well done! Another video recomended removing the control panel assembly AND the giant steel housing panel "why" I do not know, especially considering how easy it is to access the water pump by simply tipping the washer backward. Water is leaking under my Whirlpool top load washer, but it isn't the pump. I replaced the drain pump (my model doesn't have a recirculation pump, so drain only) and it's still leaking whilst filling / spilling. My guess is leaking tub seal that needs replacing now.

Usually, when the drum is cracked, you can see rust where the transmission is underneath and usually wet once running for a bit. Also check fill water supply but hard to tell without being there

My Kitchenaide top load washer (very old but a goodie) is leaking from bottom. I tried an experiment. With the machine in off position I poured about 15 gallons into the empty tub. I sat on a chair and then slowly water came out from under. Again, the machine was off. I'm an old lady but sure like to know how things work. Would it be the drain pump if the machine is in off position or other causes? What next should I check for? I really enjoy seeing your work. You make it look so easy. It could be leaking from the drain pump or the transmission itself. Rust stains will usually point to the exact location :)

I have an older Whirlpool washer than the one shown here, and the ID plate is unreadable/worn off. If I want to replace the drain pump, can I remove the current one and get a part number off of it?

Whirlpool washer here, changed pump based on video, and it still dumps when on fill stage. Suggestions? Where do I check the tub? Also, never did this until I moved it down stairs and up ro new unit on second floor, with a dolly. So a little bumpy while going up/down stairs.

Those black, thin clamps (2) really don't require any tools to remove or install. But if you do need help, a flat-headed screwdriver (as a pry-bar) will work just fine.

This washer is only a few months old. I'm noticing water on left side of washer when it drains. Could it be a drain pump already?? New in August 2023, 4 months old. Whirlpool top loader. And the less, cough, expensive one.

While seeing this vid again, I am curious as to what was wrong with the pump such as cracked, or where the drive shaft goes in from the motor. What causes these to fail in you experience? Thanks again. PS I really couldn't see where the water was dripping from. Seemed like it was in the front facing outward, a crack?

Hard to tell. Everything is designed to fail sooner or later. Install, transportation and quality of material used play a role

I worked at sears repair and you'd be surprised at what can make a pump go bad, I've seen Bobby pins, tooth picks, something small can prevent the impeller from spinning. That's why it so important to clean out those pockets!!

Hey man I have a customer who has a whirlpool very similar to this. It leaks out the bottom but only when she does like two larger loads back to back and it leaks a lot of water. If she does a small load and then let’s the machine rest for awhile before doing another small load it runs fine . I’m going back in a couple days to poke around further. All I had time to do was snake the washer drainpipe in the wall and check the drain hose on washer. Didn’t find any obstructions. Any ideas? Or just replace the $25 drain pump? What do you charge labor to replace pump? More or less. Thankyou

Drain pump should be a quick repair so that’s up to you. Although less common with whirlpool, ensure the drum isn’t cracked and leaking from there 👍

Nice repair bro 💪 I miss working on Whirlpool appliances. Everything is GE at my property which they aren't bad to work on, but I'm just a Whirlpool fan. I've done so many of those drain pumps & motor couplings on the direct drive washers like the one you just repaired in the video. Keep the vids coming 👍

Thanks man. I too like Whirlpool over GE, especially when it comes to repairs. Although lately getting parts for Whirlpool and GE appliances has been near impossible as of late.
