Angel, Thanks so much. This video was awesome. I'd taken the agitator off and replaced the dogs, then took the pump off and checked the impeller, worked my way back to the motor and the couplers, nothing. Then I found your video and you walked me through it. Now my old Whirlpool is running better than ever. You are the man when it comes to explaining repairs. Keep it up, man!

This is second Applianceman video I've used to repair my 25 year old Kenmore, and the second one that has worked exactly as shown! As mentioned below, this is the only video I've seen that mentions resetting the brake and aligning the brake and clutch springs. Total time for this repair, including watching this video and taking notes, getting tools, changing the parts, and clean-up was 60 minutes

I had no idea these washers (I have a 1997 LSR7233EZ0) have a neutral drain. While diagnosing a broken balance spring I noticed for the first time that tub doesn't spin while draining. The thing is, if you open the lid switch during drain, and then close it again, it *will* start to spin! So after replacing the balance springs, I thought I had a bad clutch.. but no, it's just normal operation. Thanks, man ! I can't believe I've had this machine since 2010 and I didn't *know* it drains without spinning the tub!

PLEASE READ EVERYONE!!! My wife got a our washer from a used appliance store 6 months ago. Last week it stopped spinning and would dry anything. Couldn't figure it out found this video. THE BESTTTTTT video out of hours of searching. Went through his test sprayed water... bam.. it boils!! Clutch over worked, problem solved!? Nooooo. Wht this company did was fail to install the THRUST WASHER with the agitator and placed some sort of washer to hold the place; once it wore off. No spinning but consistent agitation cycles. Please check because this piece is easy to miss and is very important because it is located between the bottom base and top agitator; used to connect the agitator dog housing unit to the base by use of friction from said THRUST WASHER. I really hope this helps anyone from wasting time and money, because of people try to get a quick dollar. This video is amazing and a blessing g

Great video and dead-on. However, be very careful of which clutch kit you purchase. My replacement lasted just 3 weeks and perhaps 15 loads of laundry before the clutch shoes wore down the rivets. I don't know if the cause was a weak spring or just cheap Chinese parts. For an emergency repair today (Sunday), I de-greased my old clutch drum and shoes, and scuffed them with emery paper. I added a washer to slightly increase spring pressure and all is well. Point is, buy OEM parts if you can.

Hi there.. I'm having this problem as well. I haven't checked with the sprinkle of water on the clutch as you have mentioned here since I have already removed the transmission from the machine. I checked by tying to move the ring inside the clutch with my fingers. The ring moves but with some good resistance when I try to push it.. Other folks mentioned that if the rings moves easily with your fingers pushing on it, than the clutch is bad, otherwise it is ok.. I will try to replace the clutch anyway and see if that solves my problem.. Thanks for sharing.

Angelo.... After re-assembling the washer, we tested it with a small load. All seemed fine until 3 or 4 minutes into the agitating /wash cycle the washer started making a screeching noise, soon followed by a burning rubber smell. We shut it down and then manually set it to spin to get rid of the water...the sound continued until we shut it down. I disassembled the agitator and inspected the plastic bushing and noticed I installed the metal spring clip / spacer so that the white pin was between the ears of the clip. I rotated the clip so that the white pin was outside of the ears of the clip and tested it again but still getting the screech. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I received an after market replacement kit and it came with 2 springs and instructions for them which I didn't have that info. I used the same color spring I removed and believe it was proper. The ready installed spring was too small and wrong color so I swapped the spring and it made the clutch tighter which was the objective. The parts store had a sign up stating to check out all parts before purchase to make sure they are correct.

Need help... I did the clutch repair on a LSR7010pq1. The center shaft was corroded and would not come out. Took a lot of effort, hammering and time but I got it out. I removed the inner spin basket thinking it would help me get the shaft out. Wrong. The drive block is stuck in the basket and no amount of hammering with a 4lb mallet will set it free. Replaced clutch and reassembled without issue. The drive block was very difficult to tighten and get it to lock on the shaft. But I got it tight. Now when empty, Low spin is fine but in high spin it goes violently out of balance. I checked the suspension components and they are all in tact. The Spin basket remained attached to the shaft after several tests. Not sure what went wrong. I think it is related to the drive block or the basket. What confuses me is that it is fine on low spin. I am going to run it without the Spin basket to see what happens. Any Ideas what my problem is ?

The next thing I would suggest is to check the safety lid switch, that's a common fault as well. Do a continuity test on the safety switch with a multimeter. If that comes up good then you can try to select a cycle and wiggle the knob left to right and back and forth and if somehow starts up then you may have a timer issue but the only sure way to see if timer works are to use your multimeter. And if the timer is fine you may have a capacitor issue it may not be putting out enough volts to start the motor. Please, when you trying to troubleshoot disconnect the washer from the outlet and if you are doing anything with the capacitor you need to discharge it first and DO NOT TOUCH THE TERMINALS until its discharge completely. If you don't feel comfortable of course I would hire a professional to fix the issue.

I’ve replaced the motor coupling and the clutch and the dogs on my whirlpool washing machine but it is still making a strained sound and not agitating at all. What could it be now? I’m interested to see if I can fix the problem... getting very frustrated at this point... thank you in advance for any direction/help you can provide

It is hard to tell without seeing the washer working. Does the washer spins OK? A bad motor coupler or agitator dogs have to do with agitation, but the clutch is only use to spin not to agitate. It is possible that the problem could be the transmission but I cant tell you for sure without seeing the washer working. Try this, set the washer on a low load setting put some clothes on it let it fill and listen to what happens when the washer supposed to start agitating. If the motor runs and is not agitating turn it off and set it on the spin cycle and turn it on if the washer drains ok and spin dry the clothes properly then the problem has to be in the transmission. If the problem is the transmission try to get a good use one, new ones are expensive. send a video of what is doing if you want so I could try do tell if it is the transmission angel

Great vid man i love ya but i replaced everything and clutch only lasted 2 washes....got a second one from amazon and it also only lasted about 3 washes....little pads are literally shredding. The original clutch lasted 15 yrs....am i doing something wrong? All other parts are fine so i know its either cheap replacement parts or im doing something wrong.

That is a new one for me. Try getting an original Whirlpool part. I don't know what else to tell you I never hear that complaint before

If it is a Kenmore direct drive washer it is made by Whirlpool and most common parts like the motor water pump motor coupler etc. are the same

Im wondering if i'll ever fix it then because the original looks slightly different from the ones ive been ordering. The spring and rings are the same but the bowl or plate that ring goes in is slightly diff.
