Whirlpool Water Dispenser Not Working - No Water, Replace Microswitch and Bracket

A couple of comments. First, unplug the refrigerator before you start to do any work. As an alternative, you can open the door as that will kill power to the water/ice dispenser. Second, the poster probably didn't break that tab removing the front panel. From the number of parts listings on Amazon, that breakage is very common. Third, when moving the micro switches to the new panel, put them in before snapping the panel back into place. There's more working room that way. Finally, when the panel is in place, reconnect everything, plug the refrigerator back in, and then test before putting the front panel back on. Despite what the pros show in their videos, this seems to be the most common reason that the water dispenser doesn't work.

Exactly! That's why the dispenser stopped working. Plus, the ice dispenser side breaks, too. The retention tabs break. If you hold the switch in place, and actuate the dispenser paddle, water comes out. Replace the bracket. Have to replace mine, in fact.

What if you do all that & still no water? We got ice & had water for awhile after ice maker stopped making ice abt 2 yrs ago. We use the ice trays to fill the bucket indoor & still get ice thru the door. But we sure miss the auto ice maker. Our side by side refrigerator is a Whirlpool bought at Lowes & we haven't had it long b\f these problems showed them....after warranty expired, of cause.

Sounds like you are not getting water from your waterline to the tray. You may want to check the solenoid that turns the valve for water and replace that. I would check out appliance repair.com and go through their wizard to go step-by-step To find the issue

Microswitch most likely wasn't the problem. The broken microswitch retention tabs prevented the switch from actuating. Dealing with the same problem, myself. Broken tabs, but switch works fine.

In this case, the switch was broken and unfortunately the tabs broke off when I replaced it. Had to purchase both to fix mine.

I noticed your water pressure is not the best like ours (takes a long time to fill a tall glass)..any remedy for that? We are not handy and afraid to diy ... We were not getting any water when the replace filter came on. Replacing filter did not give us water. We are getting ice though. Guess we need to hire a professional...

So what was the actual issue cause you replaced the micro switch and that didn’t fix it. I know you replaced that part with the tabs you broke so did that have something on it that went bad? Thanks

That other part was just a mounting bracket, it doesn’t affect functionality. My issue was the micro switch and sounds like it didn’t work for you. Have you tried looking at the water valve under your fridge, perhaps that is the issue.

I changed filter, sputters a bit, but then nothing. Sputters a bit then nothing. I've been doing the every 5 sec on and off for 45 minutes and same results, sputters and then nothing. Yikes, very frustrating.

That’s frustrating. From the basics, your water line from the back, it’s confirmed working water, right? I’d review if the water filter also is clogged as well. Good luck

If you plug in the face panel to the power and press the button then it works! I don’t have the parts ordered so I just have the clicker button setting outside to use until I get my new parts! Thanks for the video it helped.

My whirlpool was fine but said to replace filter. Replaced filter and now no water. When I run it without filter I get water. I did what the manual said to start the water but I get nothing. I have taken it out and put the filter back in about 10 times so I know it is right. Filter was the same as old one.

I have the same issue, water doesn't flow with a filter installed and flows perfectly fine without a filter. Did you figure out a fix to get water to flow with a new filter?

we just moved into our home, the lightbulb is not working and I replaced the bulb, the water will not dispense. Ice is being made in the freezer but does not dispense. I hear the click when I push the water and ice dispenser in. can you help me?

Sounds like the switch isn’t engaging, you may want to focus on the switches first and then the dispenser controller board. If those aren’t it, it may be the fridge switch or the main controller board. Good luck!
