How to remove the basket from a Whirlpool washer, it took awhile to free the basket due to wear and tear.

Thank you! I bought a condo recently and it has one of these washers. I've been scouring the internet for answers on how to take it apart so I can clean it and Google's AI search has basically destroyed the ability to find factual or pertinent information. I saw dozens of AI-generated 'help' videos that were instructions for a completely different washer. I talked to a help-bot on a washer repair site that also used the same completely different washer instructions. NOW I can finally get this thing apart without any extra unneeded steps (I would have taken off extra screws from the back for sure.

I want to see how you remove the agitator plate, and remove the hub. I had to break the agitator plate, and of course I removed the six screws that hold the hub down, but I can’t get it loose either!

Thanks for sharing! Tip to avoid losing screws: use a magnet [a donut magnet from a scrapped microwave is awesome if you can get your hands on one] and just put all the screws on that. No scrapped or curb picked microwave? A magnetic parts bowl will do it : )

on this model, you might want to tip the drum upside down to drop out any coins that may have slipped past the agitator plate and wedged themselves in the drain holes in the bottom of the drum. You'll find pennies and dimes. Nickels are too large to wiggle past the agitator plate, they will just roll around forever sanding off one side until it's perfectly smooth. I have a collection of them!

I can't get over the fact that only 5 years or so and we've already had to replace parts. You could buy a washing machine in the 80s and it would last 20+years. I've already replaced the transmission in this model and now mine isn't agitating. So guess it's time to fix the hub assembly and wash plate. Absolutely ridiculous the quality of appliances these days. They throw computers in it and suddenly it costs twice as much and lasts half as long.

I have the same issue with removing a basket when replacing the gear case. I had to use a hammer to get basket seperated. Im glad you shared this video as it was confirmation I was not taking wrong actions.

I did the same thing! We have very sandy well water. So it was good to clean that out after retrieving that blasted screw. My machine is only 8 months old 😡

Great video. I have the exact same washing machine and was getting banging during spin cycle. Replaced the shocks with OEM. Still banging. Took off the hub. Teeth look good. Ended up buying a new one but would still like to figure this out. If I spin the inner tub by hand, it has a slight wobble to it (I can send video). Any idea what would cause this???

What's the trick for the agitator

I got lucky getting mine out without breaking it. I tapped around the shaft with a hammer, and jerked it back and forth and pried around the edges with a screw driver. It took a couple of hours just to get it out. Many people break theirs trying to get them out. Hope it worked for you. Have a good day.

great vid!!!wow...liked it. hey i am tryin to install centering suspension springs, not rods. i see the little holes on each corner of the tub flange lip, is that where one end of the spring goes thru and the other to the rod, to keep the tub stable???/ its the same model, let me know thanks!

I'm not exactly sure, but I think those springs go on the bottom part of that rod where it connects to the outer tub. Hope that helps, have a good day.

Now I see the tub centering springs, Yes those do appear to connect to the top, sorry about the confusion on my part.

I was looking at the springs on the bottom of the rod, on the diagram I was looking at, now I see the Tub Centering Springs those do connect to the top. As for getting to the bottom of the washer, I saw a video where they disconnect all of the connections to the washer. Unplug power cord from power outlet/ Turn water off, disconnect water hoses / Disconnect Drain Hose. They then put the washer on its side to access the bottom, If there is any water left in the Wash Tub it will come out when you put the washer on its side. Good Luck

Question I just completed this because I cleaned out the whole basket and re reinstalled and now my washer does not work also when I try doing the reset once you get a spin cycle it spins violently and it's violently and bangs against the inside Everything is completely tight I've removed it 4 times now and reinstalled just to double check

You may try checking your Washer Suspension Rods & Tub Centering Springs to make sure they are all properly placed on the Wash Tub. Those are the parts that are supposed to keep the Wash Tub and Basket balanced. Good Luck, Hope this helps.

How did you get the agitator cover off? Mine is really stuck on there. Any tips?

It took me between 30 min. to an HOUR just to get my wash plate off it was quiet difficult. I grabbed the louvers on the wash plate and violently jerked it back and forth to loosen things up. I then took a flat head screwdriver and started to pry the wash plate out from the outside edges and it finally came loose. It was frustrating and I was full and ready to buy extra parts in case I broke something else. Maybe try tapping around the center of the wash plate with a hammer to loosen things up I didn't try that one with mine. It will eventually come loose, Good Luck

@@freeindeed9508 That's what I was doing what being a screwdriver on the edges and pulling up by it wasn't budging.i trying the screwdriver a little in the center but I was worried about damaging the thing that comes up. I ended up buying a crack strap thingy (these are all technically terms) and using a piece of wood that i saw other use but that's when it busted. But that's ok cause then i just cut it out.

When I removed my basket I heard a good amount of water in it, is that normal? I figured it could be to give some more weight to the basket. I tried rotating it and don't see any coming out.

They have fluid from the factory to help offset imbalance.

You are going to regret not replacing that basket water seal at the splined shaft of the transmission. You'll find out soon when the flood happens.

Do you need to turn the water off?

It may be a good idea to turn the water off at the wall connections just to take that extra caution. With the machine unplugged, it shouldn't start a wash and turn on the water. Good luck and thank you for watching.

spray a little bit of penetrating oil around the bottom of the shaft (I used Kroil but WD40 would work too) and grab the top of the inner basket and shake it a few times. Should come off easily. Clean the shaft well before you put the inner basket back in or you'll have problems getting it back on.
