Geminiloves-It helps to make sure the water line has little or no pressure. You may need to take a couple of glasses of water from the line, then turn the filer to get it in. This should be able to help.

Ultimately this advice helped me install my filter (or actually re-install the filter that was used originally, as I only had pulled it out to see what I needed to order for a replacement). After pulled about 64oz of water from the system (with the filter removed) *and* using a significant amount of force (not on the replacable cap, as I believe I would have broken the plastic, I pushed through the bottom semi-circle opening on the filter directly) the previously installed filter was returned to its original state. This is not a friendly design, and from this video I can see that I'm not the only one with troubles. I only hope the new filter is not as difficult to install.

Swarmbot-the pressure in the line is great when the filter is being released. Some leaking is normal, but not a full stream. Turn off the water when putting in the new filter, or take 2-3 glasses of water from the right before changing to the new filter. This should be able to help.

Hello Tx3Stones. As long as the water filter was inserted completely beforehand, then it should have been filtering water through properly. What should I do if water leaks out (where the filter connects to the refrigerator) when taking out the old filter? It will leak continuously until a new filter is inserted, or the old one is pushed back in.

I have a 90's model with the PUR filter, I can press the button down but the filtercap comes off, the filter itself is stuck. I got it with the house so can't give an exact model info. Not sure how old the filter is either but I've been here a year and it's never been changed. Thought my landlord would but newp.

TrevForPresident: You can try to take out water from the system, about 2 cups or so, to see if that will allow enough pressure of the eject button to work. I hope this helps.

My eject button does not latch in. It is always out and therefore the water filter never fully seats. It seems like an internal 'hook' is not engaging with the latch when it is pushed in. How can I fix this without taking the entire refrigerator apart?

I've replaced the filter on my refrigerator several times, but this time there is a lot of air in the line when I replaced it. I tried to press the water dispenser for 5 seconds, release for 5 seconds, press the dispenser again for 5 seconds, repeating those steps for 2 minutes. The water hardly came out at all and there was still air in the lines. So I put the old filter back in, and it works fine. Then I tried the new filter again, and no water comes out. Is it a defective filter out of the box although it's new?

Usually when I change the filter, the old one is heavy and has water on the end. This time the old filter was light and had no water on it at all. It was inserted correctly. Does this mean the water hadnt been filtering through the filter the whole time??

I have a Whirlpool Gold. It doesn't have an eject button. It's 10 yrs old. I change the filter abt every 9 mos. I removed my old filter today and water started pouring out of the slot where the filter goes. I had to shut off the water. It's never done that before when I removed a filter. I replaced my filter, It snapped in and everything looked perfect.. Now, I only get a small drizzle of water. I pulled the filter back out to bypass the filter and it leaked all over. (I didn't notice it until it had gone under the wall, through my closet and into my bedroom) Re-installed the new filter, just a drizzle again. Now what?

I have a 25 foot Kitchenaid with a similar typer "cap" removal device. The cap broke off one of the slotted devices necessary to grab onto and remove the filter. Kitchenaid quoted me $27 for that plastic cap (Similar to the one shown in your video for Whirlpool and then increased the insult by telling me there would be an additional $7.75 shipping. Is there any common sense out there?

If the cap comes off from the filter but the filter is still stuck, how can you remove it. The ejector button will not work.

slide the cap on the stuck filter and turn clock wise to lock back on. Then, while the button is still depressed pull the cap out.
