It’s so nice when you understand how things work. We had a air conditioning unit at our last house that broke right after the warranty was out. It was a fuse one time and the fan the next time both times my husband figured it out. I never complain when he wants to buy different golf clubs or speakers, he’s saved us so much money in our 41 years of marriage! ❤️💕 glad you could fix it! You are so correct, those are expensive fixes when you need to pay someone to fix them.

I always say no to the extended warranties and have been pretty lucky up to this point. Most times problems occur in the first couple months but this looks like it may be a reoccurring issue. Hopefully the replacement part will have some changes. Thanks for watching.

I have the same whirlpool low profile microwave that is 32 Days out of warranty. I called them today and they wanted $450 to send someone out to fix. I paid $440 for this microwave 13 months ago so I decided to try this. I only had regular glass fuses, I used a 20 amp. Works again. Thank you for the video led me straight to the source. Sucks you got to take it down and reinstall but I was smart this time a cut a board to hold up the front while I reinstalled it by myself.

I really appreciate this video. I was going to just replace my fuse, or at least check the fuse but, when I got the front control panel off, I didn't see the fuse anywhere, so I assumed it was located elsewhere. Once I seen this video, and found out where it was, I stopped. I'm retired and a bit to old to be pulling a microwave out of the wall. It's only 6 months old, if that, so we are going to contact Whirlpool for the warranty fix. It might be something with the switch as well. It's stuck in the out position. So the door can't even close. That might just be due to where it was situated when the fuse blew, if it's the fuse. I'm not sure if the switch can cause the power to go out completely or if there might be some sort of reset process, but we'll just have it looked at since it's still under warranty.

They probably get a kickback from the appliance repair companies to do stuff like this. It turns a 10 minute 20 dollar fix into a 2 hour 200 dollar fix for a simple fuse replacement. Hopefully the new interlock assembly will fix it for good. Thanks for watching.

Another guy on his channel had a failure on this same unit and called for repair. Parts and labor right at what he’d paid for it new. Only few days out of warranty so called Customer Serv, told no help, asked for supervisor and was given warranty on parts. He still had to pay $160 for two service calls. This is the third video I’ve watched on this unit having failed.

I have not had anymore problems since replacing the interlock assembly. From what I am hearing the interlocks and motor drives seem to be the biggest problems. Parts are not very expensive but so much is crammed into a small package so it does take some labor if something breaks. It was the only one that let us meet code at the time and worth the problems. Extended warranty is a good option if you can't fix it yourself. Thanks for watching.

You are right in regards to purchasing an appliance when the technology or model is totally new. I made that mistake when I purchased my Whirlpool top-loading washing machine when they first appeared on the market. This was at that time when the most popular models being sold were the front-loaders. Engineers designed the top cover with a powerful spring to assist with opening the heavy glass cover on top. The frame of the glass cover was made of plastic and not able to support the spring-loaded energy of repeated openings and therefore broke the plastic part of the frame. If you're not handy with repairs, all appliances become throw-aways.

Sorry, what I mean is, hitting open and then sitting there and watching it open is kind of a useless feature. If I found a way to modify it to open on its own when finished, it would be more useful. You'd go in the kitchen and the door would be open, ready. Make sense?
@brucegordon43752 жыл бұрын
I also had the door latch fail after 15 months. The fuse blew while trying to jimmy the switches. To make changing the fuse less a major I cut a 2 in hole in the cover over the fuse location and covered that with a metal access panel. The door latches are working after cleaning up and lubing the mechanism. The problem is the overly complex electro/mechanical door latch module that is prone to damage or jamming out of adjustment by slamming the door. We now carefully close the door and it has been fine for over a month.

I have a high end KitchenAid stainless. it has a 4-speed fan button, and sometimes 2 of the speeds don't work. If I slap it around a little bit it starts to work. My old refrigerator was 30 years old when I finally replaced it with a Maytag which of course is owned by Whirlpool as well. I bought it shortly after my daughter was born, and it failed maybe a few years ago so it barely lasted six years I think. Apparently it's a common problem with the board and I ordered it and it was on backorder for several weeks. I took the board out of the back of the refrigerator, found some bad capacitors. I rode on to a place near me and for about 2 bucks I was able to fix the board. The board goes as high as $180 on Amazon, but I was able to get it from Sears direct parts with a coupon for about $100. the first board showed up damage cuz they didn't even package it was just flying around in the box so they had to send me another replacement. So even though I didn't use the new board, I have it on hand as a spare. But apparently it's a common issue with those. the refrigerator boards are a common model when you stick them in, you have to know the code for your refrigerator and program it to the front panel in order for it to work. They hide the manuals either in the hinges or underneath the refrigerator and you have to know how to program them.

I have purchased the same interlock switch for a strange symptom on my same whirlpool WML75011HZ-0 MW . When we plug it in and hit the door open button, we get no action except the faint grinding sound of the motor trying to pop out the button stem that used to pop open the door. The only way to stop the grinding is to then unplug the unit. One way we've been working around this problem is we taped a piece of paper over this part of the panel, simply manually opening the door. My guess is the interlock part motor is what I hear grinding. I'll know when the part arrives.

Ok, I found a way to only disconnect the lower CB connectors and then tie the whole panel up and out of the way without disconnecting those tiny and very breakable board connectors. First, I removed the 2 interlock block flat head screws (on the front)-Once I could reach inside and jar the block (very much stuck in position)- gently move the block out the compartment. I then disconnected and re- connected each micro switch wire/s before disconnecting the next, or you may use a camera to avoid getting mixed up. Be sure to Re-connect every lower 4 to 5 CB connector/s. Mine is back in business....Good luck to ya!

In your other video about this Whirlpool microwave, you mentioned that the microwave was originally ordered from Costco, but because it was taking a long time for delivery, you eventually ordered one from Home Depot. The delivery waiting time for appliances ordered at Costco can be frustrating - HOWEVER, one of the biggest reasons why people stick with Costco is because of the warranty. After the manufacturer's warranty expires, Costco extends the warranty for another year, and if the Costco Citi Visa is used for purchasing the item, another two years of warranty is put on top - - - for a possible total warranty period of 4 years.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
I had to finish up before company came and had no choice after Costco kept delaying the delivery. Thanks for making this video. I was strongly considering getting this microwave due to low clearance above the stove but now I’ll have to do a lot more research now. How has your fixes held up? Did the new part seem to do the trick?

I wound up replacing the interlock switch door opener assembly and it has been fine since. Was only $28.00 for the whole assembly which surprised me and you change it from the front . We love the microwave and would buy it again. I would recommend an extended warranty if you can't fix it yourself. Thanks for watching

Thank you so very much for your excellent videos. We are installing ours and then unable to get the right side screw that secures microwave to under cabinet to bite. Trying to see from your video what exactly that screw goes into. Seems like something fell down into inner workings. Any suggestions?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
There should be a threaded insert in the top at that location. Check for one. If its there and the screw threads in the hole was probably drilled in the wrong location in the cabinet. If it's not there it's a manufacturing defect and you should contact the seller. Thanks for watching.
@shweetiepetina15634 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your reply. I think the part it threads into fell down inside possibly. The other side threaded and secured ok. I’m going to try to take the cover off, thanks to your video, and see if I can locate the issue. 👍🏼 Ughh, it’s heavy and our backs have had it. Lol
@shweetiepetina15634 жыл бұрын
So, with your help, we got the cover off. Careful, it’s sharp. There was a square piece for threading that had fallen down inside. We put it back together and all was great when with last twist, it fell back down in so now it’s stuck to the bolt inside and we can’t get it loosened to take it back out. Luckily we got the 5 year warranty. Service person coming out in 4 days. Ughhh. This microwave makes you swear, for sure. Thanks again for your help.

Your video was a lifesaver for me! I have exactly the same model and it is acting up just like you described. I purchased it in July of 2018, so it's about 17 months old. I agree that it's a pain to install, and probably much worse to take it out when you have no idea what exactly is wrong with it. If you don't mind, can you provide a little more info on the faulty switch so I make sure I get the correct replacement? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
This is the switch assembly I purchased to replace everything. The way it is designed puts a side load on the switch shortening the life. I had a video started about replacing the assembly but didn't think it was worth the time to finish it as I didn't realize how common a problem it really is with these units. www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-interlock-w11213912-ap6329366.html Check your model number and call them to verify it will fit yours because they seem to have different suffixes on the newer ones. Good luck. Thanks for watching.

It looked like pushing sideways on the actuator the way they mounted it and used a ramp may have caused premature wear. Those plungers are designed for a straight push so this seems like the wrong application for that type of actuator. It wasn't even running when the fuse blew only opening the door so there was no load. All other microwaves I have seen have the fuse behind the control panel for easy access. Thanks for watching.

Hi, I am sure that you would be able to get just the switch through the internet. As for the fuse, I think they did it that way to deter people from changing it themselves, I would have been very tempted to solder new wires onto the fuse holder and reposition the fuse to a more intelligent location
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20235 жыл бұрын
It doesn't make sense to make people totally disassemble something for fuse replacement. All others seem to have it right behind the control panel. The switch would probably have to be glued in place on those plastic pins so that may be why they only sell the assembly. It is the wrong application for that type of switch. Thanks for watching.

This is the one my unit required per the model and EC. It is #20 on their diagram and was the whole assembly W11213912 / AP6329366. www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-interlock-w11213912-ap6329366.html and it had all the switches. and was plug and play. Call appliance parts pro and see what they sent you or if their number has changed because mine was the complete assembly. I think it had 4 switches. Wonder if you got a Chinese knockoff or returned unit. I didn't waste time doing a update because there wasn't much interest in the video at the time and it only takes 5 minutes to swap from the front. Thanks for watching.

I've seen that crap with the fuse so many times... What you could do is buy an inline fuse holder with wire tails www.newark.com/productimages/large/en_US/24R4772-40.jpg (or add them) and solder the tails to the connections for the old fuse and leave the holder in behind the control panel for easier access. You can even desolder the fuse holder and spade connectors then use crimp connectors on the tails and they just plug into the original board... Like this media.rs-online.com/t_large/F0534834-01.jpg

How disheartening. Had this exact model installed today. For reasons I'll never understand, it seems the mfg. did not provide an option to simply set a time; then START. You have to select COOK; then scroll thru food types, followed by the count of that type. Once you START, you now see how long it will cook for using that selection. So...if you want to cook for 2 mins, you will have to experiment with all of these food types; then record the duration of that cook, rather than just set a timer for x number of mins. followed by START. If you use the TIMER function, it simply counts down the amt. of time you select; then beeps at the end of the cycle - no cooking takes place. Perhaps it's flawed, but given the mess I just went thru with Home Depot with 2 other appliance installs, I'm going to just go ahead and "rough it". Tragically, everyone on the major home appliance business these days is incompetent. Mediocrity...the new norm.

We love this microwave. Luckily the door switch assembly to fix it didn't cost much. Just open the door and punch in the time then close it and push start. Don't hit the other buttons. It'svery simple to just run it like that. The timer button turns it into a kitchen timer only. The instructions are not that great but have enough information to set it up the first time in the menu system. Once you learn to use it you'll like it. Thanks for watching.
