The way you explained everything makes me feel like I can definitely do this myself! Thank you!

This video was so helpful! I removed the old hood and installed everything myself. You explained everything perfectly. I have replaced ceiling fans before, so I figured I could tackle the outlet install. Thanks for a great step-by-step video tutorial!

Thanks for the post, some good tips. My biggest concern was converting the wiring to an outlet but it doesn't look complicated. Hopefully, my wiring will be similar!
@JaysPlace24687 ай бұрын
Converting the wiring to an outlet is pretty simple but keep in mind that code in some places suggests a microwave should be on its own circuit.

Dude you’re my hero, same cabinets as mine, same over range fan as mine, same location of everything for mine!

It was a pretty common build in the mid-late 90’s. I’m not in love with the cabinets. Maybe one day we’ll swap them out and do a video! 😂

We just switched out our 16" for an 11", so much nicer than a bulky micro. This was our third micro and of course all of them had different spacing for the cabinet bolts. Six different holes, looks like Swiss cheese, I was concerned about the strength of the cabinet. I used an 8" mending plate (from Home Depot) with the bolt inside the cabinet. The plates seem to distribute the weight properly.
@JaysPlace24688 ай бұрын
The mending plate is a nice solution to that problem. Anytime you can distribute weight more evenly, it’s a good idea.

Hey nice install. I can see this was over a year ago now and I was wondering how this is doing? Have you ran into any problems? I was advised not to use the range hood hookup to power a microwave because like many homes it was mainly intended for lighting only. It looks like your setup may be that way too?
@JaysPlace246817 күн бұрын
I haven’t had any issues. A lot of places do require a dedicated circuit for a microwave.

How did you decide to position the outlet where you did, and what did you do with the drywall piece you cut away when prying out the back of the cabinet? I didn't see you pull out the cutoff drywall.

This video was extremely helpful. Now to find someone that can do this. Any suggestions?
@JaysPlace2468 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I’m probably not the right person to ask for suggestions. Maybe a friend in your area could recommend a handy man? I have a tendency to just try it myself. Sometimes it comes together easily, sometimes I’m without an appliance for a week while I figure it out. 😃

FYI in many places the microwave needs a dedicated circuit.

Absolutely, always check your local building codes.

@JaysPlace24685 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what you mean about the plug being upside down. I didn’t feel the need to fix the drywall since it is behind the microwave. I’m sure you could if you wanted to spend the extra time and money. I didn’t see any benefit.

how come nobody has an exhaust ?? where was the hood range sending the hot air to??
@JaysPlace2468 Жыл бұрын
The old range hood just pushed the air through a filter and recirculated it. That was the way they built the house. This microwave has an option to exhaust externally if you have that option. That is certainly the better mode of ventilation. I didn’t feel the need to make this project any bigger than it was at the time but I could add an exhaust later if I wanted. I guess I don’t really cook fragrant foods all that often. Thanks for watching!

the range microwave needs to be on a dedicated circuit right?
@JaysPlace2468 Жыл бұрын
You’d have to check local codes but generally yes for a fixed appliance.

On the outlet? There was a ground. Bare copper to the green screw at 6:10
