Wow, at last someone who shows simple & informative instructions. Not played for a while & want to play again.

Thank you for this Mike! I love this tune, having first heard it in the 1960s on a folk music oriented TV show. The basic melody has stuck in my head all these decades! Even without your vid, I could probably have figured out some of the melody just from memory, but now, I won't have to do that. I'm just learning how to play mandolin, and loving it; doing ok with fingering the melodies, barely able to play chords (so far). If not for an injury to my left thumb in my teens, I might have picked up guitar (or maybe mandolin??) in college. But it's never too late - I recently had surgery to fix my thumb and now it works like new. It took months for my left hand to wrap around the neck properly, but now it feels very comfortable. I'm loving every minute finally playing the instrument I was given 40 years ago. From the same TV show, I remember a song called "The Whistling Gypsy", which had a similar feel...I've already got that in my fingers.

Hey Mike, love the lessons! Just picked up the mandolin about a month ago and I gotta say the jam session section of your videos are great! Did you do a video on playing the intermediate melody? I see it on the tab but couldn't find a video on it.
@MandoMikeLessons3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael apologies for the delay, only just seen this comment. I don't have a video for the intermediate melody, but if you wanted to get in touch with me via the contact page on the website, I'd be happy to send you a quick demo video of the intermediate melody. Cheers, Mike

Do you have any right had lessons?
@MandoMikeLessons3 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott. Yes! Although how many depends on your skill level :). I have a specific one for Beginners here: www.mandomike.com/post/right-hand-exercises-beginner Other than that, right hand technique is discussed in all lessons that I teach a tune, especially the advanced ones. I also wrote a book about the Right Hand technique which you can see here: www.mandomike.com/shop Hope that helps! Mike
