** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

(Chad here) we have had this issue on one other occasion, it turned out to be some regional server cluster issue and should fix itself. Everything is buffering normally here at the studio and on the local LTE network. I would suggest grabbing a cup of coffee and trying again in a little while.

love the small slam on O'fo while you've got their Cooper on property. Love the review, big fan of the thinner whiskeys especially during the summer. The Buchanan you reviewed has the thinness that was perfect for the hotter days. Definitely should have mentioned that infernal widget pour spout they built in. I had the bottle completely upside down with nothing coming out. Thought the Whiskey spirits had changed the laws of gravity against me.

Daniel, there's a common cocktail in the south called a bourbon milk punch. The ingredients are milk, bourbon, vanilla, fine sugar(or simple syrup) shaken with ice then garnished with ground nutmeg. Really good drink for a hot day and easy to make.

I had a wonderful whiskey experience tonight. Just found your channel last night, been binging a bit to play catch up but I had to share this. I had a glass of Lagavulin with pickle spears. It was really good. The two flavours just layered and exploded. It was pretty great. I doubt it will be a taste experience everyone enjoys, but I really liked it. Great channel guys, thank you.

From what I have heard, while every barrel will of course have variation, generally speaking any given vintage (in your case, 2009) is going to adhere to a similar taste profile, with significant variation between vintages.

That hard G sound at the end of words is actually a fairly common dialectal thing in many parts of America. For example in Mississippi the hard G sound is often used at the end of words. One of the most famous examples of this is in Forrest Gump, where Tom Hanks picked up the Mississippi accent from the boy who played the young Forrest. So dear Daniel, you are not alone in your pronunciation of the hard G sound at the end of words. It is in fact something to be proud of.

EW has been one of my favorites, since the 70s. Basically, it was my first bourbon. I had no clue about all the "nuts and bolts," of whiskey. I just wanted to party and EW was always on the invite list! So we had some EW for new years! Now having been educated by the Whiskey Tribe, I was pleasantly taken back to those days of my youth! I didn't even puke this time!!

Bought this last week. Find myself comparing all other bourbons at the general price point to it. The closest I have found is Elijah Craig small batch, but I prefer this. I actually find myself not drinking it too often because I can’t bear to see the bottle go down. Bought it at the same time as Old Grandad 114 and that is 1/2 gone because I don’t care if the bottle empties. Backwards logic, I know, but I really prize this bourbon. In my limited experience I rank it behind Jefferson’s Ocean And Iron-root Harbinger as my favorite. For $25 bucks you can’t beat it.

Hi, I know that I asked this in your previous video but I just want to make sure that you get the comment. I'm not sure if you are familiar with Three Ships Whiskey. It is a whiskey made in South Africa. As far as I know the manufacture Single grain and blended Whiskeys. This was the Whiskey that introduced me to the love of drinking Whiskey. If you ever manage to get a bottle, it would be amazing if you could do a review on it.

Trying to do a recreation of one whiskey with others in stock, and asking for some suggestions. I figured four roses single barrel is a higher than 40 proof whiskey and high rye, so mixing about 60% barrel proof Elijah Craig with about 40% bullet rye would get me really close. While they were pretty close, the mixture was just a little too sweet and cherry for a perfect match. The longer I let it sit, the closer it got, but still not quite there. I figured I am not the first to try and recreate one thing with others, so I should ask the tribe: any suggestions?

Sirs, “horchata” is a traditional Mexican drink prepared with rice, milk, cinnamon, and sugar. However, the Mexican version is an adaptation of an even older Spanish drink made with barley instead of rice. The even older original recipe was made not with barley, but the seeds of tiger sedge. The substitution of barley for sedge seeds was necessitated by the limited supply of sedge seeds and the relative abundance of barley in Spain. When the drink recipe was taken to Mexico, it was necessary to substitute rice for barley because the areas suitable for barley cultivation were extremely limited and rice was substantially more abundant and far cheaper. The name “horchata” comes from the Spanish word for barley which itself is from the Latin word for barley which was “hordeum.” Now, that’s you know the true story of horchata.....don’t you feel ten feet tall?

This is also where we get the word orgeat (used in Tiki cocktails). Currently in Spain horchata (typical to Valencia) is made with tiger nuts (chufa).

My dad always says “waar-ssh” instead of WAH-ssshh. It drives my sister nuts. He also says “bah-taters” instead of Pot-at-OH. That really gets my sister going. I frequently ask my dad to tell me about the chores had had to do as a kid.....like wash the potatoes and peel them for dinner. I swear to Gawd the look my sister gives me every time my dad says WARsh or Bahtater tells me she’d burn my ass down if she had a gun! Lol! Ah, family time is quality time! Lol!

I have never seen such a crazy bourbon in all my life. For those of you watching ; I’ll tell you what I mean. I have been into scotch and bourbon pretty much since age 21. I’m 32 currently as of 2020. Each time I go to the store for a bottle I will usually buy a specific bottle I was after and one random one . I will drink on both bottles for months before going to replace them when eventually both empty. I just happened to go to the store and get some Elijah Craig and spotted this bourbon next to it and thought , single barrel , aged 8+ years , Evan Williams , what could go wrong ? I have read and watched no less than 3 hours of reviews in this one bourbon and every opinion on the Internet is wildly different. I feel like I’m being trolled , or the people tasting it are. Taste IS subjective but it’s so bad In Terms of variety I can’t possibly believe it. Some people say it’s way took oaky, some day they get no oak notes at all. Some people are claiming it’s spicy like 100 proof , some are saying it’s smooth. Some are saying it’s not sweet at all, while others say it’s about as sweet as Buffalo Trace. Plenty of people are swearing that it’s to be drank near only, or only mixed and some even say only with ice cubes. Again, we aren’t talking about subjective things here but some big and obvious ones. Some people are saying the vanilla is super heavy here , and some are saying those typical notes aren’t even present . I haven’t opened this bottle yet and I’m considering just returning it but man I have never seen such a thing. The reviews are the most inconsistent for ANY bourbon or scotch I have ever seen
