Rex’s hairdos are on point lately. Today’s styling brought to you by “Bed”. I’ve had this before and it’s very budget. You guys should do a worst of the worst by style. Bourbon, scotch etc.

I’ve had some bad/fun experiences with that. First time drinking it I drank about half the bottle in 20 minutes and a 6 pack of Pabst sitting in the barracks one night and I woke up the next morning in a random girls living room out in town

You’ll get no eyerolls from me for Jack! It’s a solid whiskey! What I’d do to branch out in addition to trying some scotches and irish whiskeys, is broaden your American palate as well! You could even start with some of the easy to get, low cost Jim Beam bottlings. They’re really good neat or with Coke or water or anything, and they’re not going to surprise your palate too much. You’re in for an exciting ride! :)

Jack and coke to whiskey- no idea for mixers, but the 10 best budget video is a great start to change from Jack. BTW, no eye roll on Jack Daniels- there are times where I drink that neat, as I can get it for free. It's not a bad drink what so ever. For sure, it's not what I remember back when I was in my early 20's. Sure, there are better, but it's still a good place to start from. Nothing wrong with it at all.

All hail to the Somme, the mooch, and the tribe I have been watching for a couple of months and finally put my big boy pants on and bought a bottle of Laphroaig 10 and I thought it was glorious!! I would consider myself an intermediate drinker when it comes to bourbon and Irish but I think I have found my true home in Islay thank you for opening my eyes any suggestions for my next purchase?? Keep up the good work from a newly born peat addict!!

Jack and Coke, how I got off of it: I only drank Jack and Coke myself for YEARS.. I had the same urge as you do to get off of the mixing, but I just couldn’t do it. I ended up switching to W.L. Weller Special Reserve and Coke and drank that for about 6 months. Then I finally was able to do the Weller just on ice (10oz Yeti cup and a huge ice ball to help keep it as cold as possible). I then ventured off into trying other bourbons in that yeti with ice, and did that for about 1.5-2 years. After that I finally started drinking the bourbon neat. After being solely into bourbon for about a year, I was finally able to venture off into the world of all whisk(e)ys. I don’t regret how I did it, it took a long time, but it was worth it in the end. Hope that helps. Also... first time comment, been a huge fan of the whiskey tribe and the community for a while now!

I'm by no means an experienced whiskey drinker, but how I transitioned to drinking it neat was to keep the mixer off to the side. Sip the whiskey, if you get overwhelmed chase it with your mixer!

lol I remember buying military special at the px for $3.85. On a 3rd weekend for payroll it seemed like a good idea compared to Jim beam at $14. Dude we could barely choke it down drowning it in coke. That shit will put hair on your chest. Y’all were very kind. Semper Fi. Love the channel

Military special is the official “I’m here to get fucked up” liquor. The bourbon is like $13 for a handle here on Bragg. It’s really not that bad for the price! EW Black is twice that for only slightly higher quality.

@Valasia LaBelle (Sorry if I butchered the spelling) I'd recommend moving other bourbons such as buffalo trace with coke, the difference will introduce you to some different flavors from the liquor with the buffer of the coke. If you're really wanted to explore though I'd totally recommend getting Glenlivet 12 and mixing that with ginger ale. Its super tasty and will introduce you to malt flavors while being nice and light and sweet.

I have the mooching story. It is a touch long. But oh so worth it. A few years ago a good friend was having his bachelor party, and we decided part of the festivities would be to attend a PGA tournament. It was a gorgeous winter day in Tucson Arizona, and we were all looking forward to some day drinking. While the majority of us had general admission tickets, one had an exclusive pass to get into an all you can drink and eat tent. You can see where this is going. But, wait it gets better. I noticed the guard at the front of the tent gave my friend his Exclusive Tent wrist band, and purposefully didn’t scan the ticket with his scanner gun in a blatant “hey, I’m the cool old guy, so come on in young guy” wink wink nod nod move. So, you can see where this is going. Using the same ticket...all six of us in the party had our exclusive tent wrist bands within 15 minutes. The drinking, and a bit of eating…but mostly drinking…began. We would throw a drink back, then load up on some to-go drinks, walk around a bit to see some golf, and then walk back for some more drinks. Really getting our “money’s worth”. But, wait…it gets worse. On what we decided should be the last trip back to the bar for the day, one of our friends noticed something weird about the tent, and asked the waitress about it. “Hey, what are the pictures of the kids about?” he asked. I looked around, not really having noticed them before. But, there they were, a bunch of faces smiling down at us. But, some of the kids looked a bit...different. “Oh, this is a charity tent.” The waitress began, “We’re raising money for kids with different illnesses and disabilities”... So there we were, all six of us, bellied up to a bar, full of beer, wine and liquor we stole from sick kids, just waiting for the earth to swallow us whole. “So the exclusive ticket sales raises money for those kids?” I asked, as sober as a nun on Sunday. “No, the majority of the money is raised by which stuff people drink. Depending on which drink you order, money is raised and donated by the tent’s sponsoring groups to the illness that’s listed under that drink. See?” She points to the cute toddler with a big smile with “Cancer Research” written across the top and “Glass of Champagne” written across the bottom. Next to the “Juvenile Diabetes” poster with a big smiling face and…”Whiskey Cocktail” written below. “So yeah,” she continued “the more bottles we empty by the end of the day, the more money goes to the research.” We stood silently for a moment...Reading the fine print below the photos that confirmed her story. The groom-to-be shot a glance at me...a smirk crawled across our faces, and he said, “Well miss, you caught us on a very generous day.” and slid his empty glass forward, “I’d like to donate to Cerebral Palsy Research, please.” The waitress laughed and said, “You boys feeling generous too?” We gleefully placed our orders to the cheers of “For the kids!”, we solemnly raised our glasses, said an honest prayer for the kids...and did so a few more times to make sure the research was adequately funded. So I hope you’ll raise your glass to them as well. “For the kids!”

For the Jack & Coke enthusiast - my first step away from JD was another Tennessee Whiskey, bought at a liquor store clerk's suggestion: George Dickel No. 12. It's similar enough to Jack, yet noticeably different. Try both mixed with Coke in the same proportions, then compare the whiskies by taking a sip of each straight.

What got me from mixed drinks, to straight up liquor, was flavored whiskey liqueurs. It takes a while to get used to the alcohol burn, and Jim Beam Vanilla on the rocks is what gave me that acquired taste. From there I moved to an old fashioned, until I then just stopped adding bitters, sugar, and ice.

The question about getting started in the industry - sage advice although I'd add on the topic of making yourself indispensable - try to find out where there's a lack of knowledge and then find out as much as you can about that area/topic - so if there's nobody really that knows much about Scotch - fill that knowledge gap and become that "go-to" person. Great advice!

Jack and coke to whiskey? Although considered by some to be heresy, I would suggest trying one of the flavored bourbons, especially American Honey, no mixer, ice or no. It's wild turkey bourbon whiskey with some honey flavoring. Nice to transition to the straight bourbons and other whiskeys.

Daniel, I'm late to the comments, but I disagree with jumping straight to whiskey and seltzer from any whiskey with cola. As a cocktail enthusiast who also enjoys whiskies neat (from a Glencairn of course), I'd advise anyone coming from cola as a mixer to switch to try a couple of things before jumping into whiskey and plain soda. First, try using a lighter soft drink like ginger ale or sprite that lets you taste the whiskey with less of the cola flavors overshadowing it. Second, try a whiskey sidecar or a whiskey sour. Slowly decrease the portion of fresh citrus juice and liqueur (or simple syrup) until you're at the point that you can drink a classic Old Fashioned (2 ounces whiskey, 1 teaspoon simple syrup, 2 dashes bitters, and a citrus peel garnish). The Old Fashioned lets the base whiskey really show through and is a great bridge to the final steps. The final steps of course being whiskey with on the rocks, whiskey with water, and ultimately just the whiskey neat.

Going from JD and Coke to other flavors, I'd recommend a scotch and soda with Dewars White Label or The Ardmore Legacy. My first taste of a smoky whisky was this combination with Dewars and opened me up to tasting more smoky scotches. A more recent discovery was noticing a sour note in Dewars and pairing it with peach nectarine soda water. It was a great smoky fruity taste.

Rex is randomly generated NPC #4 and Daniel is the user created protagonist by a guy trying to role play as a hobbit Also for the jack lover, I'd try some more Jack but on the rocks maybe? Hell even try a whiskey sour with Jack. Once you get more comfortable with the business, I'd say branch out to their single barrel stuff, on the rocks or neat.

"Easy drinkers" or "friendly" doesn't have to equate to simple or boring. Some whiskies many will call "beginner" are still good once your palate develops. Other whiskies for the JD person to eventually try: Buffalo Trace, Michter's American, and my usual plug for Eagle Rare. For Irish, I agree with Jameson Caskmates Stout. I will also recommend Teeling Small Batch. Scotch can be hit or miss for many, especially peaty/smokey. Use caution and just dip your toe in with sample sized bottles or try one at a bar. Don't be afraid of it though. You may be like some of us and find you love the peat right out of the gate. Or go light and friendly with something like Glenmorangie 10.

To the fan comment on mixers: Typically I've found the the harsher whiskeys require a mixer: Jack and Coke, Crown and Coke, Wild Turkey, etc, etc..... These tend to be pretty harsh when drank neat to my pallet. Jameson is an excellent start in my opinion! Light and savory with a low price point. I enjoyed both the Stoudt and IPA cast mates editions also. You can branch into different categories: bourbons, scotch's, cognacs and etc. As they are different but expect to be repulsed the first time you try something new. Are you going to love everything at once? Probably not! Whisky drinking is an acquired taste and you will build up your favorites if you stick with it. Right now my favorite is Four Roses small batch until my next love comes along. I've cut my teeth on Johnny Walker's red and black, Monkey Shoulder (a Scotch that is not my favorite), Rowan's Creek, Wild Turkey 101, Jameson and of course all the usual suspects with a Coke mixer (which I no longer practice when drinking).

Coming from Jack with a mixer I think Jameson is a great choice. Most Irish whiskey tends to be very kind and not terribly mean like some Bourbons or scotches can be. Tullamore DEW was a big start for me as well as Glenlivet 12. Either on ice or with sparkling water tend to go down without a fuss. Oddly enough something really sweet and interesting might be Michters American.

I've been exploring bourbon for a little while now. Long enough to know I really like bourbon. Id like to start exploring scotch though. I've had a few before, Glenfiddich 12, Glenlevit 12 and McAllen 12 and I really like all those as well but id like to dip my toe into smokey scotches. Is there a way I can do this in two bottles considering what ive already tried? Love the videos and I'm so glad Daniel is maintaining his beard now. Cheers you bastards!

A few of my friends found some similarities in Michter’s Sour Mash. Around me in CA it goes for about $44. May be worth a try to branch off from JD. They wanted nothing to do with my other whiskies at first but I remember that one being the gateway to them eventually wanting to try some of the other stuff I had kickin around.

What is a "master distiller?" What role do they play in the crafting process? Is there one at every distillery, or just select distillers? How does one become a master distiller and who are the most famous ones (I'm guessing "fame" within the industry) and is it legit when the master distiller's name is on the label, or is the distillery just throwing around an expensive sounding term to improve the marketability of the label? LOVE YOU BOTH!!!!!

Jack Daniels is really sweet, so if and when you're looking to move from Jack to something that's (by consensus) of better quality but not necessarily more challenging to drink, I'd recommend pretty much anything and everything by Michter's. Like these two I have a particular fondness for the Unblended American, which is kind of the ultimate in "sweet but complex", but their bourbon is among the best sweet bourbons I can name as well.

Industry ins...Smaller distilleries often need boots on the ground in their tasting rooms or doing in-store tastings & festivals. There are tasting companies who manage portfolios of products and the big distributors have their full-service reps, but your local distilleries, they are often managing that themselves, in-house. Go in, make friends with the owners & staff. Let them know you're passionate about their products. Check your local legislation and see if there are any special certifications required for serving alcohol or working in bars/liquor stores, etc. (ie. in Alberta, Canada, you have to be "ProServe" certified; it's an online course and costs about $25 & 5-6 hours of your time). Having that kind of thing in place helps show you are serious about industry work and ready to hit the ground running. You might also investigate courses in your area. Not everything is as in-depth or expensive as the Whisky Sommelier program. The Whisky Ambassador program is a good introduction to the Scotch & malt industry and was designed to educate front-line service staff in Scotland. They have classes that run around the world! I've also heard good things about the Bourbon Steward program, though I haven't completed it myself. Check-out your local stores and attend tastings as a way to help build your experience & palate. Store staff get to know all the reps and such, and can help point you in a direction or help direct people to you.

Brightside is I get to binge watch...anyways up till recently I've only really had monkey shoulder for scotch...if it ain't broke, right? But I've tried a few others like Buchanan's for example, I like it but get a bandaid note, it's not offensive but is that the peat and if so is that what I can expect from more heavily peated scotches? I would just gradually cut back on the coke..to where you can tolerate more taste of the whiskey ...in time you will be fine..dont worry about time more note on the amount of soda..HINT...ASK FOR IT TO BE IN SEPARATE GLASSES..you might find it easier to mix it yourself and keep a constant ratio..also have fun..

Ethan Williams is harsh to my taste, so might mix well. I haven't tried it with anything yet.

I've been worried about the whole collection for awhile. I know the shelves are extra propped but....ya. A good overheard thunder and lightning storm could be all the rumble that needs.

I see this stuff in the Class 6 but have never bought it. It cost about $10 so I figured it had to be terrible. This stuff is made for Pvts in the barracks.
