** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Living across the sea from Finland I wasn't really expecting much from Teerenpeli. I just thought, whatever, lets try something different. Turned out one of the best whiskys I've ever had. The richness of the scent and flavor is overwhelming. Got 10yo, Kaski, Kulo, Portti and Savu, all amazing. Maybe once lock down is lifted I'll pay a visit to distillery.

Been making my way through the backlog. Taking quite a while. You've got a few videos. Wanted to throw in a comment about how I was another person who fell in love with scotch via Laphroaig. I was at my work Christmas Party and a coworker (who had snuck in a flask of Laphroaig) encouraged me to try some. I did try some, despite not liking whisky, and was surprised to find I liked it. That actually gatewayed me into the sweeter whisky. Islay is still my home, though. In retrospect, I think it was the fact that the smoke gave me something to enjoy besides the alcohol burn. As I then drank the smoky stuff, I learned to see beyond both the burn and the smoke. Still haven't found a bourbon I've enjoyed and I've never tried rye. The channel has encouraged me to try again. I kind of want to go straight to Angel's Envy, but maybe something like Buffalo Trace where I wouldn't feel bad pawning it off on some friends to be used as a mixer...

Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery is located in my hometown Lahti. The company started as a brewery in the 90’s. Their current product line includes beer, cider, gin and of course, whisky. IMO their range of whiskies is pretty damn good! Cheers!

Maybe another experiment for you guys. What if you fill a barrel with smoke to get a certain smell/taste to the whisky (like pine needles) This is something that i myself want to try but i have not yet acquired a small still. I plan on getting 1 in a few months. great channel guys i feel your interactions are what makes the channel great the same way that top gear was a great show because of Jeremy Richard and James being a fun group to watch together.

Hey guys just found out I passed all my classes and graduated from Wvu this winter. I Preemptively bought myself a bottle of highland park 18 and just cracked it with some friends at the graduation party. The rest of the night was a blur when we also drank some jw blue, Jameson gold, and some Hennessy master distillers addition but when I came to the next morning we had drank half the bottle. I was understandably distressed about this and my friends are obviously master mooches but all in all the night was worth it and I’m just glad to be done with school. Keep up the great whisky info Daniel and get chad to stop editing Rex so we can Appreciate him in all his glory or horror whatever side decides to shine through

From another beer guy - we definitely use tequila barrels. I’m from Charleston, SC and there’s a brewery down here called Westbrook that’s done a few beers aged in tequila barrels. Avery also had one back in the spring; I’ve seen it around recently as well so I think they’ve done another run since then. Seen a few others do it too here and there. Would be stoked to see something done with mezcal barrels, good luck!

Hey guys. Just wanted to say loved the channel and how you describe all the whiskey without being snobbish about it. Even my wife watches you show with me. I had stumbled on to a method to enhance my bourbon experience. I sometimes add an orange peel to my bourbon and i find it can heighten some of the citrus flavors of some bourbons. I usually add it to bulleit which is my go to at a bar. Wanted to see if you guys have tried this and want to see what you think. Just as background info I started drinking scotch but moved into bourbon because I realize my tastes lean forwards the sweeter flavors of whiskey.

Hi guys, I absolutely love your show and have been binge watching for the last month trying to keep all the information in my brain somewhat organized. I am a beginner whiskey drinker and am looking for a “good” bottle of scotch to enjoy on New Year’s Eve. Being from Canada we have limited exposure to most of the American whiskey, but can easily get most Scottish whisky. I find myself really enjoying a Glenlivet 12 and was wondering if you could recommend something that would be the next step in flavour. I find I have grown slightly bored of the ease in the glenlivet 12. Thanks and keep the videos coming! Would love to see more Canadian whiskey reviews knowing how much you love them!!

Hi Rex and Daniel, I work in a whisky shop in th UK, and your videos have definitely informed my sales. I work with some quite rare/old bottles (e.g. Port Ellen single cask) and I have customers and co-workers who do a lot of investing in and selling of whiskey. I was wondering weather I should use my discount but still spend a bit of cash to get a 21 yr Bowmore single cask to hang on to and then sell in a few years time. I used to work in wine, were prices I think are more based on the quality of the liquid, but in whisky just one review can sky rocket the price of a bottle overnight. Have you ever bought a whisky to sell eventually in the knowledge that the price would increase? Thanks!

UKFskateboarding, that's great to hear 👍. No, ive never invested in whiskey. As far as I'm concerned, it's meant to be enjoyed. The most Ive done is set something aside for a special occasion, but I'm usually not too picky about the occasion.

All Finnish whisky is aged: It is required to be aged for at least 3 years for it to be called whisky. You can sell it without aging, but it won't be called whisky, or even whiskey for that matter. This is partly why whisky distillation is not a huge deal in Finland(yet.) If you start it from scratch, it's going to be at least 3 years before you can sell any real product. They usually fund this by selling something else while their whisky matures. Teerenpeli for example, was known for brewing beer before they started distilling whisky. It's becoming a thing though.

hey guys... just ended this video and you talk about tequila and mescal. there is another destilate from agave that is made only in the nortwest part of mexico, sonora, (where im from) is called bacanora. its has its own name of origin, so its only produced in this region, and its made in an artesanal way, how in the old days it was produced, the agave is buried in the soil instead of an oven or other sort, any way, the flavor that it gets is earthy. im writing this because the first time i tried laprhroig 10, my first tought was, this tastes like bacanora, so i will send you a bottle along with another whiskey that havnt been review, at least not seen any video, in a couple of weeks ill be sending this. cheers.

Do a video on whiskey Elements. I don’t believe they actually work I think they look like snake oil, But I’ve never purchased one so I’d appreciate a review on it before I buy.

It will definitely make it darker and give you a lot more of the wood note. But you won't have time for it to truly add new flavors other than that.

Daniel, where are you from. I get accent drops on some of your pronunciations.

Daniel's accent is from "overpronounce-my-g's-ville". Rex's is from "no-fucks-left-to-give-town".

@jimmy Leg basically got it. I've lived in 4 different states, 4 countries, and traveled for 20 years. I have picked up way to many weird things that became add-on's to my natural Texan accent. Makes for weird things.

@@WhiskeyVault/videos Aye, don't worry about it. A lot of Finns don't really know that "Scandinavia" is defined by the mountain range, and think Scandinavian = Nordic. Fun fact, technically parts of Scotland are a part of the Scandinavian mountain range, but the movements of tectonic plates have cause them to drift apart. Other parts of Scotland are part of the same piece of land that ended up being modern day Newfoundland. So TECHNICALLY a lot of Scottish whisky is actually Scandinavian whisky. =)
