The Peated cask strength is my favorite Balcones yet; can go head to head with anything. Smoky and sweet, with a strong grape note. Delish!!

I totally get that grape note in Lineage (Welch's red grape juice) and Tres Hombres (which is weird because it's a bourbon mash bill and not malt).

This really sounds like something I need to check out! One of my favorites is Ardbeg Uigeadail, which seems to have some similar flavor profiles- smoke and peat with dark fruit, raisins, subtle sweetness. Since starting to watch you guys, I have tried some Balcones spirits and have enjoyed the 100-proof rye and the Lineage (which blew me away it's so delicious).

It’s nothing like the Uigeadail. It’s not like any scotch I’ve ever had really. For it’s price, I was disappointed. There are myriad better options for my money. It’s a love it or hate type whisky. “Unique” or just weird. I recommend trying a sample first if you can.

Not to be that guy...but *well actually* A fault is a line where tectonic plates are colliding or splitting which can produce an escarpment that is just basically a steep exposed rock face due to unequal erosion, and they aren't necessarily always connected you can have one without the other. Sorry but the nerd in me couldn't let that slide 🤓

I took a tour of Balcones and tried all their offerings except the Brimstone. and all their general offerings were mid to me. however I tried the Peated Sauternes and the Big Baby which was their Baby Blue aged in Tequila Barrels and those were absolutely fuckin amazing. so sad they ran out of both of them. That Peated Sauternes was so fruity but had that beautiful heat and earthiness from the peat. then the Big Baby probably had top 3 best noses I've ever smelled. it was so floral with that little bit of like prairie grass smell with a lovely creme brulee finish just gorgeous. And that taste really mirrored the nose with that caramel and vanilla thrown in

Have not purchased a bottle of Balcones I liked. It is frustrating. I have had pours from other people's bottles on 3 separate locations and absolutely loved them. Each time I would go back and purchase another and it is not nearly as good. Talked to one of the friends who poured and loved Balcones and he said about 25% of the bottles he has gotten were not too good but 75% were great. I guess I am just unlucky.

It's a weird one but if you're patient it does oxidize nicely once the bottle is open. For a while, quite a while.

Jealous, I've bought a good amount of these BP malts from Brown Jug. It's 48 months old in new oak and comes in at 66.3% ABV. I LOVE it but it would've been more interesting in some other barrel. Very punchy oak, very dark, very hot.

Can anyone explain to me what causes the Texas funk in whiskeys ? I don't know quite how to describe it but it's in all balconies and quite A bit of other texas whiskey. Sometimes I like it in A whiskey sometimes I don't but I'm super curious if its the heat , grain , or A combo. Any guesses ?
