Thanks to you both, I have successfully converted my dad from a rum and coke guy, to a whisk(e)y neat guy. I started with the Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask, then onto the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, after was Glenfiddich 12, and then I convinced him to try the Laphroaig 10 at our local whisk(e)y bar and he loved it so much we had to stop on the way home to pick up a bottle. Thanks to you both, I can now sit on the patio, smoke a cigar, and enjoy just about any whisk(e)y with my dad. Cheers!

Rex: Daniel was just being confusing. A malted grain is a grain that has been allowed to germinate, the beginning of sprouting. Growth is then halted by drying it in warm air. This converts the grain's starches to sugars, which can then be fermented. What Daniel did was to try and explain the physical steps in the process without explaining why they're necessary, or much of anything at all very clearly.
@michaellamsscienceteacher72775 жыл бұрын
Malting is not done to make sugars it's fine to get the grain to make the enzymes that can convert starch to sugar. Those enzymes convert starch to see during the mash. Drying stupid the grain from using up the sugars to grow.

Kinnikinnick is a Native American and First Nations herbal smoking mixture, made from a traditional combination of leaves or barks. Recipes for the mixture vary, as do the uses, from social, to spiritual to medicinal. -from Wikipedia. I know the term from fur trade readings as a plant whose toasted root makes a good coffee substitute.

Im not going to word my question well I hope you can understand what im trying to ask. Based on Canadian pricing Bowmore 12 $60 Laphraig 10 $85.00 Talisker 10 $105 What gives? Is it quality? Is it the ability to charge less from distillary? How can an older whisky be so much cheaper than a younger one?
@ericschwab4096 жыл бұрын
Yes. Bowmore may indeed be the older product, but it is not as interesting or desirable a whisky as Laphroaig or Talisker (in my humble opinion). As a result, I believe, Bowmore is priced much lower. I like all three of these whiskies, but two of them are far superior in their flavor and finish. Interestingly, the parent company of Bowmore, Beam Suntory, owns both Bowmore and Laphroaig. Bowmore was formerly part of the Glasgow-based Morrison Bowmore group which included Bowmore, Auchentoshan, Glen Garioch and McClellands. Beam Suntory had a market share of about 6% in 2016 according to Forbes. Talisker and Lagavulin, as well as many other great distilleries, are part of the ginormous Diageo conglomerate which has a market share of about 36% and produces one-third of all Scotch whisky. Their marketing reach is strong and widely felt because of the top quality of their products and the strength of their corporate portfolio. www.forbes.com/sites/felipeschrieberg/2016/09/28/the-4-companies-behind-34-of-all-scotch-whisky-production/

I have always liked donation day until today. You really trashed all Canadian whisky and I would definitely not agree. Old Liquormans could in fact be the worst spirit made in Canada, as it does suck!!!! LMAO 😂 But there are some sublime single malts too!! Glenora distillery has several classic examples, that really would put several loved scotches to the test, and I would render to think most bourbons too!! I am a huge fan of the channel, but I am also a sensitive Canadian.

Rex still has Zero idea what malting is. You germinate the grain, then dry it to stop the germination. but don't take my word for it: Malt is germinated cereal grains that have been dried in a process known as "malting". The grains are made to germinate by soaking in water, and are then halted from germinating further by drying with hot air. (Wikipedia)
