Daniel and Rex, me and mine were able to tour Southern Grace Distillery this past week, as we live close by. All their product is currently a little over two years old, but our tour guide, Thomas (who I believe created the mash bill and original recipe used in Conviction’s bourbon line) told us they project moving towards a four year product in the next year or two. Glad to see you guys rep one of the Old North State’s bourbon in Austin!

Hi MB’s. I live in South Africa. There are at least 4 whiskys produced here. Daniel had one, Bain’s in the masters of malt Christmas tasting. We are able to grow all grains. But predominantly corn. However our climate is not conducive to long periods of aging due to large temperature fluctuations. But the still worth a shot. Keep it magnificent. J.

So if malting barley means starting germination, then kiln drying it with some kind of smoke, peat or otherwise to stop the germination process, does anyone do the same thing with corn? I have no idea if this will have a similar effect, or if it would take some of the intense sweetness away from and otherwise standard bourbon, but it seems like an interesting concept. You guys are welcome to try this in your distillery, provided I get a bottle from each batch.

I just sampled a '21 Conviction, and I'm getting a lot of headsy notes. I also get almost a peaty note on the finish, and it reminds me in some ways of an Isaly Scotch. It's light in color. The tails are pretty oily. Not that I'm any sort of expert. This is definitely an unusual Bourbon and I don't think people would fail to pick it out of a line up.

Hey guys, just wanted to pick your brain for a moment or two. What are your thoughts on Johnnie Walker King George V & Jack Daniels Sinatra Select? These fairly pricey bottles of whisk(e)ys & it’s a little bit rare, however I did manage it get my hands on it & I really enjoyed it but people says it’s overpriced. What are your thoughts on overpriced whisk(e)ys? However I’ve also recently been dabbling in the more rarer 60, 50 & 40 year old whisk(e)ys which costs as much as organs😂, I’m glad to report that I haven’t sold any of my organs. Thankfully I’m able to afford those bottles, however because I’m spending my own money I’m not sure if my perception of “quality” has been altered. When it comes these types of whisk(e)ys, the experience & the journey one part takes in is like no other but is that experience worth an organ/obscene of money? Any thoughts? Much love from South Africa.

You're not going to see much whiskey coming out of Africa, because most of the nations there have strong Muslim influences, and so setting up distilleries is difficult. If you CAN get a license from the government to open a distillery, it's just a matter of time before some radical group is going to burn it down. There is a reason why Tej from Ethiopia (which was predominantly Christian for centuries) is now impossible to get in the US--they now have a Muslim Majority in Ethiopia, and they literally go around setting fire to, and blowing up the Tej meaderies...
