@@jamieh3772 I disagree the 16 is much tastier and complex the the 12. I've had all the Lagavulin's and the 16 is still my favorite scotch of all time... This Corryvreckan though is really interesting

My frist was the Glenlivet Founders reserve. Now that is a very dull, watery whisky, and I love me some Ardbeg, Caol Ila or Lagavulin any day 😅

I totally started with Smokey Scotch first and loved it from the get go! Talisker 10 was the first full bottle I bought. Suggestion: You guys should make a video for each Scotch region. Like a "Best of Islay" or "Top Speyside" type deal where you talk about your very top Scotch's from each region. Maybe a top 3 or 5 or whatever. I for one would really enjoy a series like that. I bet other would too. Keep up the great work!

Yep my dad gave me an Ardbeg 10 for a birthday once and I fell in love with the spirit right there, so I started my journey with one of these peaty masterpieces and have loved every minute since!

When I started enjoying whisky instead of just shooting jack daniels I started with a Macallan 12 and moved to Balvenie 12 next. Then I tried Ardbeg 10 and it quickly became my favorite.

I’ve recently rediscovered my love of whiskey. I started off with my old flames - Redbreast 12, Green and Yellow Spot - but took a chance on Islay whiskeys based on your reviews. I started off with Laphraoig 10 and instantly fell in love with the smoke. I now religiously drink Ardbeg 10, An Oa, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan every night. Corryvreckan is my favourite, followed by Uigeadail. Absolutely stunning whiskeys! I will be sending you guys an invoice for a replacement liver in the near future 😂🥃 Sláinte

My whisky journey started 4 years ago with this one... that's right. Coworker started me with Ardbeg Corryvreckan. She also gave me a nearly full bottle of Octomore 6.3 that she didn't like. Obviously, she is now one of my favorite human beings on the planet. I wish we had not consumed all of that Octomore... but wow was it good.

What an interesting insight into the whisky industry. Both the process of producing special release whiskies, finishing that project and then moving onto a new project. And then the different market placements of distilleries versus blenders. Fascinating!

How does it compare to An Oa and the standard 10?
@DJMJRyder3 жыл бұрын
@@MisterCaution cant' speak to the An Oa, but compared to the ten it is similar but the peat flavor is dialed up to 12, it's wonderful if you want a peatier ardbeg 10

I had been drinking whisk(e)y for over 10 years, mostly bourbon and Canadian, until I had a sip of Ardbeg 10 and changed my whole idea of what Scotch was. Enjoying Corryvreckan now along with this video. It's my favorite Ardbeg that I've tried so far. It almost feels like a cask strength Ardbeg 10.
@tyf44327 жыл бұрын
Ardbeg is simply spectacular. I didn't get serious about scotch until I stumbled across Ardbeg 10 because it was on sale, and I was just buying random affordable scotches. I now appreciate all different styles of scotch, but I didn't appreciate scotch until I met Ardbeg. Interesting note about how friendly Ardbeg 10 is vs the other Ardbeg expressions. It's always described as a peat bomb, but it's really not. It's so much more, which is why Ardbeg outshines Laohroaig, Lagavulin, etc. Entertaining stuff guys.Thanks.
@WhiskeyVault7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Ardbeg crowd is definitely a loyal fanbase. I admit, I'm partial to the specific peat notes in Lagavulin and Caol Ila. But bottle for bottle, I haven't a weak link in the Ardbeg lineup

Recently got into whiskey just before watching you dudes. Didn't know scotch, whiskey and bourbon were all in the same family. My first scotch was monkey shoulder. It was probably the best whiskey I've had. And I used to sneak drinks that my grandmother may or may not have drunkinly offered.

Enjoying Daniel Whittington's videos and his very informed commentary on whiskey of all types. Have to say as a very new whisky drinker Ardbeg 10 is actually the first bottle I bought and then I did so because I couldn't stop ordering it each time I visited the local whisky bar...something about that smoky peat that just seems to carry so much flavour, like it holds layers of flavour that develop in your palate. For me it's a nice starter. Having said that the thing I enjoy about whisky so far is there is no one single whisky flavour and there's a whisky for every occasion and mood.

The first Islay I had is still my favorite: Laphroaig 10, and that was only a month ago. Having said that, I have never had an Ardbeg that wasn’t vibrant and amazing, and the Corryvreckan is a beautiful scotch.

Some people can’t find sweetness in Ardbeg 10. That also was problem for me. But then i read about this method: You left a liitle bit of Ardbeg 10 in glass for a night. The next day alcohol evaporates and you should smell this sweetness. And if you get it you will always recognize it. It worked for me. Cheers!

Love the channel, I stumbled across it and now have yet another expensive hobby I can't afford so thanks a lot for that. P.S. I recently tried Ardbeg Corryvreckan (bought a miniature bottle) and fall in love with it. Never really like any other peaty whisky before (maybe Highland Park). But something really special about the Corryvreckan. Went back and bought another miniature bottle of Uigeadail, but thought it was a bit boring when compare with Corryvreckan. Still have not try the Ardbeg 10 yet.

Brought back a couple of bottles from a recent trip to the US. I found a little liquor store on the side of the road. Went in and started talking to the store owner. Pretty interesting and knowledgeable guy. He recommended the Alabama Style Clyde May's and Angel's Envy from Lincoln Henderson. So far, so good. i really love them. Those are my first two american whiskey bottles other than the occasional Jim Beam or Evan Williams.

Did a flight of Scotch earlier tonight, of all of them the Ardbeg Corryvreckan was the one I preferred the most. But being a complete newbie to all this I really jumped in the deep end head first. Gonna try some more mild variety's the next time. I found the Ardbeg Corryvreckan to have a strong but quickly dissipating bite at the beginning with a strong smoky finish that just stayed with you. To be honest it tasted like I was sucking on a burnt match stick, but in a good way lol.

haha I got my first Ardbeg this week, 10 yo 1Lt. I find it peatier but not as smokier as my Laga 16, as odd as that sounds, but yes, I do love it. I also was able to grab a bottle of JWGreen, Clynelish 14(Love this thing, already got a backup bottle), Highland Park 12, Caol Ila 12 and Laphroaig QC. My least favorite would be the HP12 because of the finish it leaves my mouth with. I thinking on getting a Balvenie next what do you think?

Well I started with ardbeg and I fell in love. I only drink Islay whisky, well yeah I also drink for example a talisker that's not an Islay too. My favourite is still the ardbeg 10 or a 5 wee beastie for daily consumption closely followed by the lagavulin (I like the 12 the most, then the 8 then the 16 and then the 9). And the Ardbeg corryvreckan and Uigeadail are also very good price/quality for a dram or 2 daily. So yeah depends what I'm in the mood for on the day I go for one off these. Edit: I forgot the port charlotte heavily peated 10years. Also a good one for a daily dram! But my local whisky shop sells this stuff like hot cakes and he has to restock again. I ordered a 1L bottle online for 77euro! So a very awesome price! Then what I like the most for the occasional dram (read once a week) is the Laphroaig 10 cask strength. And because Laphroaig has a new manager for Belgium its not cheap anymore. It's like 150euro a bottle now. Still worth it imo but not for daily consumption anymore. Also damn you Laphroaig to only focus on supermarket whisky here! So just the 10 and the quarter cask is always available, and for a cheap price like 37euro for the 10, and 40euro for the quarter cask. I prefer the quarter cask. The 10 is too low abv here. I don't go under 43%.

I both did and didn't start with smoky whisky. I had tasted the Macallan's my mom ordered on my 21st dinner (before going out) and I did not like it. I had also tasted Ardbeg at a wedding earlier in the year and did NOT like it (to be fair.... I shot it). I drunkenly had some Black Label on my 21st and fell in love. I tried some Glenfiddich 12 at the next wedding I went to and kind of liked it. A friend and I went in on a bottle of cheap Tomatin one day and it was decent. Several months later, my next birthday, as a happy birthday to me gift, I bought some Laphroaig. I did not like it when I first opened it and took my first two sips. But I had an almost 50 dollar bottle..... so I was gonna drink it. Laphroaig is now absolutely lovely (I am still 22 so it hasn't been that long). I bought a second bottle. I also tried Ardbeg again and quite like it. I have had Dalmore and a few other Highland and smoother whiskeys since, my mom even got herself some Glenfiddich 14bbr, but I did not like any of those nearly as much as the smoky. I regard myself as a novice, and after the initial shock and taste of Laphroaig, once my pallet kind of came alive, I really started at smokey whiskey and am not really a fan of the smooth sweet stuff or really Highland in general. I like some Speyside and mostly Islay from what I have tasted. So some beginners to start and stay in smokey, haha.

Yes they do. I love this journey! Have you seen the commercials Laphroaig does with reviewers honest opinions? It's awesome.

I saw this review a while ago, and thought the 10 sounded... magnificent, like a true bastard - I purchased it and loved it but then it hit me... I realised there was a rather strong menthol? Or Eucalyptus flavour, which I HATE! I added some water and the menthol goes, but SSSOOOOOO disappointed that I, all of a sudden got a burst of menthol!! Corryvreckan and Uaigedail are still great, and I dont get the menthol in either!

The 'pallet shock' , as i call it, is real with the Islay whiskies. You know when Laphroaig 10 starts tasting more like Glenfiddich 12, that you may have gone too far into the eerie lands of peated whiskey.

Same. Got it at Costco for $35 and had no idea what it was. Upon coming home it tasted like burned ash in my mouth. I tried drinking it 3 or 4 times and ended up pouring it down the drain every time. BUT... Eventually I started to adapt to the taste, and now I'm completely smoke blind when drinking Frog 10. I literally cannot taste the smoke hahaha, it's so smooth and malty and sweet. Ardbeg 10 to me is more fruity (think apple pectin flavour). But I just bought this Corryvreckan and it's the best whiskey I've ever had, very strong, very peppery, and it literally does taste on the aftertaste like I just ate a prime rib steak that was heavily peppered. The most meaty scotch I've ever had. I use it to make BBQ sauce too, as a substitute for liquid smoke and that's amazing as well. It just takes time to separate those flavours of smoke from the fruity and scotch, beginners struggle to separate those flavours but it comes with time and understanding.

Hey "Dan" ;) and Rex, I'm a university student from Belgium. And as low as my budget might be, I still find the cash to occasionally buy me a bottle of scotch. My first bottle was a gift, a Laphroaig 10, and I immediately fell in love. (lucky me, it could have turned out otherwise with that campfire of a whisky

This is awesome! Sounds like you've had nothing but damn good luck in your own whisky choices.

I'm a lover of smoke and peat. The Islay whiskies, (predominately the Lrphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin) have been my favorites from the brginning. My Laphroaig 10 was most likely on of the first bottles in the states. Back story .... I'm an old retired Marine Corps (1966-1989) combat veteran with 90% disability. Hey, shit happens. My wife is retired from the DoD. O our first trip to England on her government orders, I enjoyed the Whisky offerings, some I liked and some i didn't like. My first taste of Laphroaig caused a lifelong (since then)_ love affair with the juice from Islay. I dare say I've tried almost all of their steadily offered drams. Then it was on to Ardbeg Uegeadahl, An Oa and Correyvreckan and onward I went, to discover Lagavulin. where I settled on the 16 year old. Noble stuff inded. My Laphroaig 10 came back from England despite my having given it away to the British packers, way back in 1992. I enjoy your postings and sit here in San Antonio right now enjoying a taste of the Lagavulin 16 before I go to bed at 2:45 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Semper Fi,

Can you please do a review on Teelings 24 year old Irish whiskey. I known that Daniel is a fan of the brand and it has been released recently. Also I love your collection, but is there a certain whiskey that you own that has a unique flavor profile for someone who wants a dry fruity taste on par with Black Maple Hills 16 year?
@WhiskeyVault7 жыл бұрын
Oh man, I wish. It's really hard to get here. Let me think through black maple comparisons.

I have a question about Ardbeg and Smoked whisky in general. I know they often taste like broiled or grilled meat (bacon, steak etc) , first of all, do ALL Ardbegs taste like that or do some editions not? And in general if you have tips to avoiding some of these like references, because it's not always mentioned in tasting notes or reviews Thank you in advance
@WhiskeyVault7 жыл бұрын
With Ardbeg, it's almost all. The 10 is the lightest. And tasting notes are freakishly unreliable, unfortunately. Go see if Ralfy reviewed it. He's freaking awesome, and very detailed with the flavor comparisons. kzbin.info/door/p0k3OKqfkPW0HdRLA8JWZg

"Have I told you lately" is Rod Stewart (a Scotsman) not Van Morrison. Other than that, great video. Love me some Ardbeg. Sadly, the standard 10 is $100 in Ontario, the Uigeadail (when it was available) went for about $170, same for Corryvreckan. The Kelpie is about (that's pronounced "aboot" in Canadian) $200.
@WhiskeyVault7 жыл бұрын
What's ironic, is Rod Stewart is who I was trying to remember, but it's Van Morrison that actually wrote that song ;-)

But the problem remains: we in Ontario, Canada pay too much for Scotch whisky. Isn't there something you can do about that? Call Richard Paterson or Dave Broom or Ralfy and have them lecture our government or something....I don't have the right contact information. ;)
@WhiskeyVault7 жыл бұрын
I think I would pay money to listen to Ralfy and Richard Paterson argue before a government hearing. Good money.
@UnboundOdysseus7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah! Me too. I would probably pay good money just to hang out and drink with either one of them. Or both.

Do you have any suggestions for where I might be able to procure a bottle of this holy water from the Gods?
@WhiskeyVault6 жыл бұрын
If your local doesn't have it, maybe Master of Malt?
@Holcombi6 жыл бұрын
I just looked at Mast or Malt's shipping info and it appears they ship to Ohio! I thought Ohio didn't allow such shipments but I think I will be ordering a bottle soon now. Thanks for the advice
