Masters of Malt has this to say: An absolute gem of a whisky, the 21 year old Royal Salute Signature Blend is a sophisticated expression. It's aged for a minimum of 21 years in honour of the 21 Gun Salute that is fired at the Tower of London for Royal celebration. The whisky is presented in a classic blue Wade ceramic decanter.

I love how specific Daniel gets with his descriptions: "... in the direction of a damp cellar that's holding wood crates and dry hay." I just looked it up. Royal Salute is from Chivas. It was launched in 1953 on the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. They launched it as exclusively 21 year old as a nod to the 21-gun salute -- thus, the name Royal Salute.

21 years old, and they have/has severalø different coloured bottles, often in a velvet/cloth bag.

The Royal Salute is a fantastic blend. Love the colored stone flagons as well. Only downside is they breathe more than glass so won't store longer term as well. Fine by me, I buy it to drink.

Oh, I've had this one before. It was on clearance at a supermarket for around 90€ and at that price, it was a steal. Clearly the best blended scotch I've ever had, but these days the normal price is like double that, and no way is it worth _that_ kind of money.

The only (non-Crowded Barrel) smoky blend I have on the shelf at the moment is Compass Box No Name #3... which is really kinda unfair. Sorry Chivas... your pricing may be in the same ballpark, but you're not even in the same league. 🙃The smoke on the Compass Box is much more carefully woven throughout the entire palate, rather than only landing at the back/on the finish... overall just a richer, more complex & better balanced dram.
