Ralfy, I really want to say "thank you." You mention "drink to enjoy the taste, not to get drunk." Well, I definitely have found myself drinking slower and enjoying my whisky more, since I discovered your reviews. Tonight, I stretched a glass of Ardbeg 10 for over an hour and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm picking up more flavors and I'm seeing the whisky change, as I give it more time and more water. I feel like I'm at the beginning of a journey and I'm very excited to see where this goes.

Another particularly interesting review, or should we say lesson? Ralfy, many of us, I believe, owe You most of what we are learning about whiskies, and more! Thanks for sharing your experience, your knowledge, your opinions! Go on! By the way, I believe I recentlñy tasted a Cask Strenght Old Pulteney, and loved it!

I'm not a big fan of scotch whisky, I'm more of a bourbon-buddy (thanks by the way for reviewing some bourbon), but I still love your videos, they give me my 10-20 minutes of relaxation after a stressful day, thank you very much Ralfy :)

woah 3,5 teaspoons ? I would never use that much water for myself :) Last months I prefer my whiskies neat, weird eneugh. By the way, I can only agree with you, when you take more than 1 hour on your glass of whisky, than is the time when I say : now this is a good whisky ! Dissapointing whiskies never take my 1 hour to finish, weird eneugh. Amazing stuff Ralfy !

A little late to the party, but I just picked up a 19 year old single cask, cask strength Old Pulteney, and it’s really good! Dried apples, dried pear, cinnamon, a touch of toasted cask, briny salt, with a little mint and cloves and then caramel on the finish.

Hello, Ralfy. Very interesting review. Probably cheap blends could teach to drink cask sthenth whisky. The are hitting the nose and the tongue not less, than a cask strenth whiskies.

@CorCat87 I had the Macallans 18 YO last week CorCat. The Sherry nose and taste comes through quite pronounced from the Sherry barrels they use. A nice after dinner dram.

I like a challenge and have a bottle of this and cask 29 on order. Actually I ordered them before seeing this review, but it would not have made a difference and I would have ordered anyway. I'm Looking forward to them both.

I know this is old and maybe you wouldn't be checking up on it, but I just ordered the recent Whisky Exchange Old Pulteney 2004 Single Cask that was exclusively bottles for them. HUGE Old Pulteney fan (thanks to you), and am itching to get it in my hands when it finally arrives! Even if I'm disappointed (which I doubt), there are several locations here in California where I can still get one of my favourite scotches of all time: the Old Pulteney 17!

@MiserablerHurensohn Just be glad she didn't put ice in the glass. For some reason some bartenders put ice in your whisky when you don't specify that you want it neat. Also check if your bar has balloon glasses for brandy. Even though they have much larger bowls compared to the Glencairn, I find them to be the next best choice when Glencairns aren't available.

are you going to review any of the high year Macallans?

Hello Ralfy! I thought I would share an experience that I've had along my scotch journey. When coming back to a glass of Aberlour Abunadh that had been left covered for a few hours, the flavors had changed drastically. However, I have also left out a glass of Laphroaig Quarter Cask over night by mistake and found that the flavor changed very little. I thought this was a bit curious. Any ideas as to why this might be?

Ralf if you expect that demanding taste from single cask bottlings of Old Pulteney, is it giving a more authentic presentation of what the whisky is 'really like' or do they just reserve these casks for these single cask bottlings?

Ralfie, I am scared of this whisky now. ;) But I really want to try it!

You say that with cask strength whisk(e)ys they should be watered down and have a lid on it. Is this only true for single malts or would the same be true for Bourbon? I have a few cask strength, un-filtered bourbons that are incredible neat, without anything.

When you talk about saltiness in whisky saying for example Caol ila ,do you mean the unpeated version?

I ordered a malt at the ski area today. The girl was going to fill a shot glass and I asked her to put it in a Chardonnay glass, (closest thing to a Glencairn glass). I said, "you don't want to rush these things". She looked at me kind of strange. Sometimes we have to educate the bartenders.
