Thanks for the info. I've only been drinking whisky for a few months now but I love it. It was your videos that made me give it a go! Now when the annual whiskies of the world convention starts I'll be ready!

Thanks. That was the video I had in mind. He talks all about how real a concern oxidation was!

Speaking of old blends Ralfy: A mention for older Haig Dimples (50s-70s) is worth it. I have an old 60s spring-capped bottle of Dimple at home and it's one of the best blends I've ever had the chance to try... Waaaaaaaay better than current Dimples...

I have to say I prefer the current Balvenie bottle. The old one looks more like it's filled with brandy than whisky. I've often wondered though if Balvenie was ever bottled in the Glenfiddich triangular bottle.

Minis are great! I have some great old minis from the 60s and 70s. Probably my pride of place goes to an old 1931 White Horse mini, some White Horses from the 50s and - perhaps best of all - a pre-Brora Clynelish from '65. I'm gagging to getting 'round to tasting them...

Fascinating. I wonder how all this old stuff has been stored. Makes me want to keep a load of ordinary (and not-so-ordinary) whisky for 30 years. Must be fun to compare.

McLeay Duff is relatively common in NZ. Used to be my old Dads' "house" tipple.

Yes. Oxidation was the concern I had. Wondering how quickly/severely a cork degrades?!

ralfy i know you discourage it, but i love to watch your videos after drinking a couple, you just have one of those ways of storytelling that is so interesting till the ends of the video. most channels cant keep my interest for that long but you have that morgan freeman style

Hi Ralfy, I noticed your various non-whisky reviews (tequila, rum ...). Do you plan to review some Cognac in the future? Personally I came from Cognac to Whisky, so I'd like to see this! Looking forward to the Whisky-fakes too! Regards Fabian

Great video, thank you for showing what you purchased. I'm looking forward to the advice video coming next. But did I hear you say you'd never heard of a whisky blend??? I simply can't believe it! Haha

Ralfy, I had one of those Balvenies! I bought it in the Duty Free, Heathrow in the early 1990s. I'll have to look up my notes I made on this bottle to check the exact date. I do remember though that I bought it because at the time, I was looking for a sweet wine/brandy style single malt and I assumed that the bottle style was a marketing tool to tell us that this was a brandy style sweet whisky. If I remember rightly, I got a bit of a shock when I opened it. Nothing what I expected!

Ralfy, I found three bottles of PC6 left over in a shop that doesn't do much business I think, as it can't be found anywhere else around here. I only bought two of them as one of them out of its tin appeared to be lightstruck. Anyway, the whisky is excellent! Wondering if I should drink the second bottle or maybe hold on to it for several years and sell at an auction. Is PC6 a viable collectible whisky or should I just drink this excellent whisky?

Hello, Ralfy. Unfortunately hot summer is not the best time to drink alcohol( How do You think which season is the best to drink whisky and which season could open whisky better, acording with the mood of it?

very interesting, that box was like a clown car, bottles kept coming out. Be careful I just knew you were going to drop one. I know you had a good time.

Bell's is another blended whisky owned by Diageo. I've read that the brand is best known for its ceramic decanters which were probably overproduced much like the ceramic decanters the bourbon distilleries were selling in the '70s and '80s. Basically the decanters were meant to look collectible until you realized they were making thousands of them.
@shuboy0512 жыл бұрын
I also did a little research and discovered Balvenie was released in the green triangular bottle in the '70s. If you removed the label from the bottle people today might think it's Glenfiddich 12.
@Cordwinder12 жыл бұрын
Are there other ceramic decanters that the other distilleries used to bottle their alcohol?
@shuboy0512 жыл бұрын
Considering Port Ellen is going up to $600 for the official bottling (2012 Edition), I think you got a deal there.

for the whiskey uneducated, why the non-interest in the Bell's Whiskey? Second, Johnny Walker has come out with the Double Black and Platinum. Will you be reviewing those two? Many thanks

Hi Ralfy. I've got the same William Lawson's bottle (It was keept by my grandad) I think that more than probably the age is the same. One only thing, it has been conserved horizontally, not vertically. It is still good for drink it?

only way to tell is to open and taste ! . . . any 'off' plastic/metallic notes indicate tainting by cap. Good luck

When the auction sells bottles do they have a few of each to sell and ACTUALLY taste a bottle ?? Or do they trust who they buy from well enough...i NOTiCE the bottles are in very good condition and likely were stored RIGHT so it looks like they buy from people who buy to sell. I WouLDnt buy a bottle that looks like it wasn't stored RIGHT

I've got a question on the subject of older collectable Whiskies. I just recently purchased a Signatory bottling of 1982 26yo cask strength Port Ellen for $300.00. It's the most I've paid so far for a single bottle, and while it seemed worth it for what it is, does that sound about right to you?

hello ralfy, birthday shopping for the father in law, he is a big islay fan as a matter of fact it is all he seems to drink. i have been prowling the internet for something special, a little different when i came across bruichladdich octamore. now i like their standard stuff, however this stuff seems very expensive for the age, whilst i would not spend money on it for myself i would like your taught s on it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

cork taint is not a concern. this is a bug/fungus that is found in some wine. Funny thing is its not necessarily from the cork, it can be from the barrel also (contact with wood). whisky alcohol % will kill any bugs like this. ralfy did a video on oxidation etc if thats your concern: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4XHhpWlrZdjp5o

Makes you understand how restaurants and bars can stock MANY varieties of ALCOHOL, they can make it back and more, it pays for them to stock the best really, they actually should stock a average level for people who want to just drink but not be made sick and a higher priced variety, in fact they need to know what they are doing when they buy
