Ralfy, I never thought that I would like Whisky. But I never knew how to experience it properly till I started watching your videos. You have opened up a new world of taste for me, thank you.

Ralfy is totally right about building experience with your nose and palate. When I started, I struggled to get even 3 smells and tastes picked out. After a few months of practice, I was putting together very detailed notes. My whole perspective on what it "good" whisky changed too!

great point on the inherited bottles Ralfy, couldn't agree more. It was made to be enjoyed!

Haha Grand OId Parr, I found some of this in the back of my dad's liquor cabinet when I was on a hunt for a dram one night. I'm surprised it's going to be reviewed! Will save my questions for then. Also in reference to "putting a bottle aside at a retailer's shop", all you Ontarian viewers, one of the few benefits of our Gov't controlled alcohol, we can buy a bottle (if it's low in availability) and try it at a pub and if it's not good we can return the bottle no questions asked within 30 days!

Excellent vid, Ralphy! I'm sitting here with a glass of Crown Royal Reserve in a brandy snifter (I have yet to get my hands on a Glencairn glass!) Anyway, this stuff's like candy! By comparison a neat glass of Chivas Regal 12yr tastes like a ribeye steak! Both are very good, but both are very different. Thanks again!

I was able to try a glass from a newer bottle and and very old bottle of Old Parr( 50+ years) in Japan. I enjoyed the older stuff quite a bit and the new stuff was not bad either but I preferred the Yamizaki 12 myself. Also Ralfy please excuse my language but I love the polite way you put down a whisky. You keep it simple and say "I will not be reviewing that bottle" instead of saying its horseshit. I look forward to the double black review.

Hey! Thanks a lot for giving my love for the malts etc a new direction & Understanding. Also would like to share that I did try chilling my brandy goblet before pouring myself a dram yesterday & boy what an uplifting experience. I am going to stick with that formula henceforth, but haven't still come around covering my glass with an ice pack. contd...

Hi Ralfy, jus now uncovering some blends...I now know they can be a nice treat if not a pleasant detour from Malts. Discovered it in a most "serendipitous", as we say here at the maltbar, 'accidently'or in a quite 'fortuitous' manner and thats always special, right?! cheers Ralfy!

Atta' Boy Ralfy! Whisky drinking is an art, and as such is seen and tasted differently by each individual. Depending on our location, a dram of Macallan 12yo may taste differently. That is why we got into this in the first place...and that is why we come to people like Ralfy to make sense of it. BTW, I honestly agree about the FAMILY whisky tradiition. Drink to your family and be fortunate to where you are in life. Appreciate and DRINK! Or, pass it on to the next so they can enjoy it.

Hey Ralfy, Old Parr is famous and well received as a gift here in Japan too, especially by the politicians. The reason for that is apparently you can stand the bottle of Old Parr on its corner without it tipping over. I think there is some symbolism there that the politicians like. I tried to do it once but could not. Perhaps the bottles are different from what I have and what you have, and you might try this before you had your first sip. Oh, and I'm wont be responsible for ANY broken bottles:)

Hi Ralfy - What are your thoughts on the effect of light exposure on whisky? I was in a shop today and was wondering about all the pricey bottles that are on display under constant ambient light, for a long time... I've read many opinions on proper storage of whisky, and the general advice is to keep the whisky in the tube/box and away from light.. Do you suggest malt-mates avoid purchasing "display" bottles? Thanks from Vancouver, BC (where we pay through the nose for our drams!)

Thanks for all the vlogs, Ralfy. They have whisked me rapidly through my whisky educational journey. While I still occasionally drink whisky, I usually find myself these days drinking smoky mezcal. I've tasted and enjoyed most of the peaty, smoky Islay whiskies. Can you direct me to a whisky that is smoky but not peaty?

Honouring of your Ancestors and Saints: If you choose, when opening a new bottle of any spirit, be sure to pour a few drops on the floor. A common practice in West Africa and extending to Cuban Santería rites.

Am looking forward to your next reviews as I’ve tasted the Old Parr & loved it, someone got it for me from Japan where I’m told it's very popular. The double black is a huge rage in India as all JW are & hope it doesn't out sell it's production :) If you know what I mean :)) I would like it if you can also if possible compare it to a Teachers Origin. Cheers

I mostly look forward to your vlogs more for the extra information rather than the nose & tasting notes as I'm much a beginner & not sure if I'll ever come around getting so, in depth. Also as it's extremely tough to source the malts as you review here in India even form the duty free. As all we get is mostly big names that are caramelized in my limited understanding & is bottled only at 40-43%. Hopefully things will improve. Contd

Ralfy won't review them so you should get the message that they aren't in the very best tier of whisky. Knowing that you can buy it and see for yourself it's not like they cost fortune especially 50cl ones. From my perspective as talking about cheap mixing blends I find standard Grouse above average genuine whisky that you don't necessarily need to be drown with cola to be enjoyed.
@comicular12 жыл бұрын
Dont Blame you for not reviewing Snow Grouse, its pretty poor. I keep seeing you talk about reviewing other drinks, in particular some Port. I cant seem to find any in your vast back catalogue of vlogs, so will you perhaps be reviewing one soon?

Black Grouse is one of the worst whiskys I've ever had. Goes bad in the glass after about 15 minutes. If your nose is already warmed up you'll notice right away. Rancid. Take Ralfy's advice, steer clear!
