Whisky .com reviews the Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold. It is only distilled in the winter season. The Worm Tubs of Dalwhinnie lying outdoors therefore the distillate cools faster. Thus the malt gets a lower copper influence.
The nose:
Sweet, honey, fruity, mint
The taste:
Peppery, molasses
The finish:
Medium

The problem with Winters Gold is that it isn't Dalwhinnie 15. Winters gold is not a bad dram in its own right, its a tad rough and has a bourbon sugariness as well as the bitterness common in a lot of younger whiskies, it's better as a mixer or with water than consumed straight.

The plastic bag is for the freezer. As the bottle should be placed there.

Yes it’s true with this whisky it is advised to be kept in the freezer

@@darrenhuntington7319 lol it's literally advised to be stored and consumed that way. I imagine a bag would make it easier to remove a full bottle from the freezer. Sooo yh, not a gimmick.

The product of the highest and coldest distillery in Scotland, Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold works best served straight out of the freezer. give it enother review straight out of the freezer

I reviewed this stuff directly from the freezer, I don't find that it does the Winters gold any favours. I think that it is at its best with a drop or two of water. You can see my review here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5zJdXifh6mYe80m34s

Hmm, i think i might have to get a bottle of this. regarding the height, They say that the dalwhinnie distillery and the braeval distillery are of similar height 1154-1163 respectively. Where as toumintoul seems to be at 1132 feet.

+devildoll89 Right, the elevation of the distillery matters, as does the time of year a whisky's distilled, but age is overrated. Too bad that someone didn't shoot this into space as well and provide more to talk about instead of maturation times. Remember, age is irrelevant, but only magically so where no one wants to talk about it. NAS, which because it is not a process and so not the same as multivintaging, is quite plainly bullshit and people who pride themselves on whisky knowledge should first wrap their minds around that fact instead of playing coy about it for the industry's benefit. No producer loses 2%/year in Angel's Share to a process that "makes no difference" to the end result (and somehow depending only on labeling?!?), and no one tracks cask ages if they really don't matter. NAS is for those who have recently arrived on the whisky scene and can be told/sold anything. "Redistilled" and which distillery is higher, and the marketing gimmicks of wrapping paper and caramel?!?! Nice catches! Now, could someone get in the game and tell people that NAS is a scam?

+Jakob Thomsen You're welcome - more people need to be speaking out, however, if they don't like the direction that whisky is going and want it to be saved.

+Whisky.com I watched your video, and thanked you for it, but remain a little disappointed in terms of its commentary on NAS - "nobody" knows how old an NAS is, but somehow people are able to "know" how old an age statement is because only NAS whiskies are vatted from different casks? Again, the question with NAS isn't whether NAS it's "a good business move", or whether some of them are of good quality, but whether the central message of NAS - that age only matters to the character of whisky where it is discussed, depending ONLY on labeling - actually makes sense, and you don’t address this at all. By the same token, talking about the history of NAS or where it came from in terms of supply and demand doesn’t address that question either. Every whisky, even young whisky, CAN carry an age statement and the problems of stockholders don’t change that just because withholding age on young product makes it sell better. Nobody is mystified in terms of where NAS came from. Why are so many mystified, or just don’t care, in terms of whether it’s true?

The weakest thing about Dalwhinnie is the packaging ! Strangely poor quality for such a nice whisky !

That's a good point... This is on offer at Sainsbury's as I type (yes in mid summer)... and selling for £18.50...... I just picked up a bottle.........The box fell apart as I was scanning it through the self checkout. Lol... the cardboard is so thin and no where near strong enough to support the weight of the bottle...... But hey...... I am drinking the whisky and not the box... (but good presentation raises our confidence as consumers)... The whisky is very pleasant and easy to drink.... especially at £18.50...for a reasonable single malt..... What???????
