Just found this one in Ontario. 49 bucks, which I’ll say seems like a steal since this video is 4 years old and you mentioned it was 55 in Alberta. Great review, and accurate to what I’m tasting. Beginning to really like the “rough around the edges” type whisky. For me, almost reminded me a bit of a wild turkey 101 with the spicing. Cheers!

Nice Review. Like this one especially for the very reasonable price in the US ($22). After seeing in a Ralfy video I now use this to blend with Bourbons that need a little something to kick it up a notch. He used it with Eagle Rare and it does improve the flavor so have tried it with others. Excellent for cocktails. Cheers

I was at the LCBO today shopping for a nice bottle to get myself as a birthday present, and this caught my eye. I had seen it in a number of cocktail channels, and it was around 50 Canadian dollars. Having never tried a "bottled in bond" spirit, I figured this was a good choice. I'm going to crack it open this weekend, and now I'm really looking forward to it.

The last time I had one of these was almost five years ago... Maybe I'm due for another bottle, but I have had Sazerac a few times in those five years, and it is the bee's knees.
@WhiskyNeighbour6 жыл бұрын
When I did a direct comparison, I almost froze. My memory had them farther apart , with Saz being much juicier. They are actually rather close, and Rittenhouse is on sale here more than Saz. It could be time for you to seek out a bottle!

@@WhiskyNeighbour Right now I'm going to concentrate on getting the new Lot #40, the new Forty Creek, the new Pike Creek, and all the other new Canadian releases of the BC Premium Spirits Release next week... Then, it's whisky festival tickets, and the end of March will come soon enough... I need to save some spending money for my trip to Scotland, and I have enough whisky that I will not run out... Basically, Rittenhouse Rye is not included with my highest priorities at this time, but that will probably change after I get back home from my trip.

@@foodquig that makes total sense. This is not a "seek out bottle". Just good to have around. There sure is a lot of special whisky coming out eh?! I hope you can afford it all.

the only rye ive ever tasted is lot 40 but i find air more than water (and by that i mean sitting out for a couple of minutes) a useful tool to calm the spice. i find it doesn't wipe out the rye bread and flowers as much. i could imagine though that the lower abv dram might be more vulnerable to water.

My first rye was Lot 40. I was a little rough for me. Rittenhouse was easier to drink. I've also had Michters, which tasted similar. But, it wasn't as strong as Rittenhouse. With Rittenhouse I get something on the nose that I also get with EH Taylor single barrel bourbon and Jack Daniels single barrel.
@WhiskyNeighbour6 жыл бұрын
Rittenhouse for me has less pepper and a little more mellow sweetness to it than Lot 40. It is also only about 51% rye instead of 100%. Still, I like them both for what they are.

If you ever get the chance try a comparison of Evan Williams BiB and J W Dant BiB. Great inexpensive Bourbon($18 US), but I think they are the same juice.

I’d really like to try Rittenhouse, I’ve seen so much positive reviews about this rye! And actually ‘’straight’’ whiskey in the US must be 2 years old minimum and they have to state the age if it’s less than 4 years (so most of the NAS straight whiskeys are at least 4 years), but as you said this one is Bottled in bond so that guarantees a minimum of 4 years old. Would you say it’s a good value for 50$ CAD ? I’m guessing Lot 40 could be a better value at 39$ 🤔
@WhiskyNeighbour3 жыл бұрын

I haven't had this in a while now, but I do recall enjoying it. Especially for the price. What do you mean Market forward? To heavily promoted? or main stream? What are some other, affordable Rye's you enjoy? Here in Canada I would recommend Lot 40
@artemrepin17464 жыл бұрын
@@WhiskyNeighbour I mean it is a product that oriented for different groups of people, probably someone can call it daily sipper. RH easy to confuse to bourbon, also not too young but not aged enough, medium finish, not bad whisky in overall, but not mindblowing. I don't tried Lot 40 yet but heard only good feedback. If talk about affordable ryes I prefer more rye forward on a palate as Bulleit or Jack Daniels.
