In 2024, we see a fascinating change in direction in the TV industry. Very large MiniLED's are now the focal point for many manufacturers. Bigger , brighter and cheaper . Will this be the end of Oled, which I feel is the superior technology . You tell me! Thank you for watching.

Mini led has been getting cheaper and improving in image quality. Oled has been improving in image quality, at the high end, but the prices have not been getting cheaper. If anything they have been drifting higher. Effectively, this is moving backwards.

I just got the Hisense 100 inch U8K, I absolutely love this thing will never go back to a smaller TV again. For $3,000 I opted to go with that than a 83” OLED for way much more money for a marginally better image. I set my 100U8K 10 feet from our couch and it’s perfect. The living room/kitchen is 47 feet long in a bright room and being able to see the game/movie from anywhere is priceless!

Just no. As someone who actually buys these to test them in real world scenarios mini LED looses... Every mini LED I have tested looses to WOLED/QD OLED in image quality by a large enough margin that the extra you spend on OLED is more than enough. You get far faster response times, no local dimming lag at all, no extra latency added when local dimming is on, far superior colours, far better contrast which also gives you far better shadow detail. The only thing mini LED wins in... Is brightness in larger windows... That is literally it. And that is not what HDR is all about. Playing games you quickly notice that lights are small and most take up like 1% of the screen at a time... Mini LED even with large zone counts cannot handle that stuff so they dim it a ton to reduce blooming which is still there. Loosing that contrast and shadow detail along with highlights is more than enough to make me go OLED over mini LED every single time.

It also should be mentioned that regualar OLEDs have halos and contrast impact in smaller details comparable to miniLEDs because of additional (protection, anti glare etc) layers after matrix which deflect, reflect and dissipate some portion of light.

One thing to add to the equation. Any person that comes from an LCD/LED and they upgrade. Almost all MiniLEDs are a big upgrade. If they saw blooming on their old set. They will see much less on the newer ones. Same applies to better picture and processing. So it's just 100% upgrade for an LED user. Now a person that owns an older OLED going MiniLED means they do lose that infinite contrast and might see tiny amount of blooming. So for them it's egregious. But not for someone like me that comes from a 900E. I like that TV. But imagine the upgrade I would get with almost any MiniLED in 2024. I am not "losing" out on anything. In fact I will also go bigger. From 65" to 75 or 85". So for me a MiniLED like maybe the new Sony is just a huge improvement. Going OLED it's new things I would experience like ASBL and yes maybe burn in risk even if minute. But me going MiniLED I am not loosing or risking anything. Just all win win. I think most consumers are like me. They don't come from OLED.

Hisense & TCL aggressive pricing on these large screen TV's and people buying them have opened the eyes up of the big three brands and the future of TV buying going forward has appeared to change. Must admit I didn't see it changing so quickly. I believe you guys are 100 percent correct. Mini LED TV's that can get near OLED blacks and can achieve a size and price point that OLED can't get to is really attractive to the average consumer. The only real weakness that would remain for Mini LED TV's is the drop in picture quality when viewing off angle compared to an OLED. That will be important to a segment of customers. Not sure how big that segment is?

OLED obviously because it's "per pixel" illumination and control is the best technically. I'd say MiniLED has advanced so much that in a room with light in it. A miniLED can today (the best ones) go toe to toe with OLED in black level and even contrast. Because how our eyes work. With light in a room the "veil" in the eye and scattering of light we cannot discern perfect black anyway. Because the black on the screen will be the blackest in the field of view. In a pitch dark room it's different. Also MiniLED still have the APL advantage in big bright scenes. MiniLED still has so much headroom to grow and because they can become really big now and not even super expensive. They have a path of profitability and access for most consumers. OLED is niche in that regard still.

Like Rob Brennen said everybody wants the best tv but only wants to spend like $200. Fomo Just said you can make the perfect tv but if its $6,000 you're greatly limiting your customer base. Doesn't matter how good the food is at a restaurant if you can't afford to eat there. Everything matters people want bang for that buck. Thats why the X90L is Sony's best seller. Its reasonably priced and hits a lot of marks. I mean who the hell even wants to spend $4,000 on a tv. It gets to the point where do I get my kids braces? or watch Star Wars for the millionth time with 5,000 dimming zones. Hell for me 2,000 is pushing it. I tell my friends I'm spending $2,000 on a TV and they act like I'm crazy. Thank you, Brian, and Fomo for greater content.

It may be entry level price, but not and entry level TV, read some reviews. I will be the first to admit, the Hisense is not that great out of the box, Sony is better. But after a week of adjusting using various content, it is awesome! The Sony X90L vs Hisense U8K is not close, so even if Sony made the X95L in 100 inch, it is unlikely to be significantly better. Sony's software is better, but the hardware has fallen way behind. The larger the screen, the more evident that becomes. Side by side with a 97" OLED, I would assume my Hisense would not look as good, but way closer than you think. And $30k vs $3k. Or, you could by 77" OLED at a similar price, but 99 out of 100 people would rather have the 100" with very slightly less picture quality. I think that is the point of what FOMO and Brian were saying. OLED may be better, but not enough better to justify the price.

OutOfBox miniLED picture quality also depends on choosen panel. For instance, recent BoE's QLED ADS panels ( Chip On Glass with integrated miniLED backlight layer, Active Matrix with 3x3 dimming zones, Flicker Free etc) don't involve the need in (varying from device to device or from model to model) analog calibration anymore. The instance of TV with such panel - SkyWorth SUE 9600 / Metz Q52 which looks very well out of box.

I have qd oled and woled and they are the better panel tec, HOWEVER, until they can provide a competitive price in the 85-98" size LED is the better tech (since OLED is absent in the larger sizes) for value as new Mini LED panel tech is 90-95% of OLED performance. I would choose Mini LED at 95% performance in the 98" hands down against a 77" OLED any day.

Sounds like cheaper to me 😁😁 yes still more than a QM8 or X90 or U8 at same size but….. And then he stated that the 77” LG B series needs to be at $1500-1600 to be competitive. Aren’t we really close to that with a 77” S89C @ $1799?? With better performance than the B series?? Way back when I started watching all these guys doing tv reviews... the #1 upgrade for a tv was said to be immersion.. larger size. Good picture quality in the largest size for a decent price, as opposed to a perfect picture in, say a max size of 77" which is what 2023 showed us all... with QD oled and MLA. I think very soon what is considered the standard "large" size tv will be 83/85 inches... we have 98 inch tvs right now for 2k. For oled to stay a viable tech.. they need to make qd oled/mla in the 83" size.. but get the cost down. In 2 or 3 years, this hopefully will be a reality. I personally will be buying an 85" miniled as it's the largest I can fit wall mounted above a fireplace.

Plasma TVs had its peak area in 2008. With that I mean they sold the most Plasma TVs and had the biggest market share in this year. That was a time where you had a PS3, HD was starting to get big, but old analogue technology and SD was still around. However even in that best Plasma TV year LCD Tvs outsold Plasma TVs by a lot. 2008 Samsung had their beautiful "touch of red" LCD TVs. People bought LCD Tvs because they where less bulky and just modern technology. 2009 they sold almost twice as many LCD TVs as 2008. People got rid of their CRTs and Plasma was already hard to find in Retail. 2008 sales number: 22.1 million for direct-view CRT, 21.1 million for LCD, 2.8 million for plasma, and 0.1 million for rear projection. But when you watched Cnet, or some other enthusiasts review site: It was almost only about Plasma TVs, or at least very dominant. That shows how small the enthusiast bubble is.

What’s crazy about those sales numbers is when I would walk thru Best Buy and view the tv’s, there was such a big difference in picture quality between plasma and led lcd. Nowadays that gap has closed between the best OLED’s and the rest. I do miss those days of the shootouts between Samsung and Panasonic Plasmas trying to surpass the Pioneer Kuro.

There doing same thing with miniLED, literally every KZbin account besides me and quantum TV, just praises minLED to no end and never says anything bad about them, miniLED is far worse then regular LED, in fact I seen a side by side video that was posted just 5 months ago and the regular LED actually looked more sharp, OLED blacks are not realistic to begin with, there is no pitch blacks with shadow areas in real life, so the fact miniLED tries to copy is a sales scam, miniLED by FAR has had the worst screen uniformity, before 2019 we NEVER had any problems with DSE or banding, and all brands and models are just plagued with it, and doesn't help they all get there panels from china now, miniLED puts blue box's around icons, Sony is definitely the worst with it, miniLED has worse blooming and the algorithms are worse then traditional LED, I've seen more panels go out with miniLED last few years then we ever had with regular LED, miniLED with Samsung TVs has had allot of inverted color ghosting, miniLED is by far WORSE in every way compared to regular LED, and they always try to claim it has more brightness and contrast and color, not at all, that's only because miniLED took over before regular LED could actually advance, regular LED 65in TVs only came around 2010 and just around 2017 is when Samsung started using miniLED with QLED, and then several years later the rest followed, there just wasint enough time for regular LED to advance as good before miniLED took over. All junk, all sales scams, only tv on buying is the sharp XLED and I have a witness who was in Japan and he's all over the DSE and banding these days and he said was cleanest panels he's seen since mid 2000s. OLED sucks, miniLED sucks, regular LED will always be superior, they just ran out of ideas and can't sell same model for 5 years in a row so they come out with new junk that's worthless and of corse average family has no idea and sees all the fancy words on the box and think it's something good.

@@TechCody113 MiniLED and old Regular LED is the exact same thing. The only difference is the MiniLED backlight is just smaller LEDs and more of them. They can do more zones because more light sources. The highest LED ever in zone count was Z9D because each LED was a zone. And they had some 1000 of them. Today a MiniLED can be 6,000 to -40,000 miniLEDs. It's all about quality of the product. Talking as though MiniLED is always worse. It's not. Samsung didn't do MiniLED in 2017, what are you on about. The First MiniLED from Samsung came out in 2021. QN90A. QLED is not miniLED. It just means Quantum LED. The miniLED by Samsung is NEO QLed. The "Neo" indicates MiniLED. Also Samsung wasn't first with MiniLED. It was TCL. You say a lot but most of it is just plain wrong. Regular LED cannot advance anymore. You really don't know what you're talking about. LED and MiniLED have the same LCD panels. It's just the light source that is smaller. But it's still BOTH LED. Sharp XLED. Is MINILED FFS!!!! What you are talking about "clean panel" Is the LCD panel itself. All of the LED and MiniLED use LCD panels. They're just different from difference manufacturers. What I do like in LCD technology, as a whole, is simply the fact I don't need to search or even enable any software tricks to "safeguard the OLED pixels components". I want to use my tv with the brightness all the way up and just enjoy my contents not worrying about "blablabla my screen will wear off anytime". The fact: Organic components YES WILL WASTE AWAY, STARTING WITH BLUE PIXELS, period: it's a matter of WHEN👍: SO FAR, ANY LCD COLOR FILTER EVER WASTED, maybe its backlight (WHICH CAN BE CHANGED/FIXED👍) or some hardware components like wires or chips, BUT NEVER THE LCD ITSELF👍. and that's my first reason on buying LCD, to respect my money🤷😍

My personal theory but there is a technology to where a LED based tv can achieve the same pure blacks as OLED but it is not being rolled out because the manufacturers don’t want to monopolize the tv industry with 1 technology. It benefits them more financially to have OLED, mini led, micro led and so on and so forth.

OLED picture quality is without questions. However, most people will look at cost budget first! About 20 years ago, this is the same debate when Plasma and LCD was competing on the market. Plasma picture quality is superior, but LCD won out due to cost. I see a repeat of this scenario with OLED. OLED market share is shrinking due to cost. It will probably end up like Plasma.

QD, MLA and WOLED are still the standard. It would legitimately take another format like micro LED to take it down a notch to mainstream affordability. LED years ago was still somewhat pricey when OLED wasn’t approachable in price. Now OLED and the other OLEDs are somewhat attainable and LED is dirt cheap. That’s how I see it. I don’t understand why people pay for crap now. TVs are the only consumer product we’ve gained purchasing power in as far as quality. They were paying 800-1000 for an awful off brand 20 inch tv at Walmart in the early to mid 2000s.

I love movies, that’s why I got this beautiful technology in my room this 10 AP plasma TV from LG, which probably costed around three to $4000 back in the day, it’s great stuff, but I’m the older generation, and we’re not really buying TVs as much anymore. The ultimate gamer doesn’t want an old lead, they want a beautiful, bright color/decent, black levels, 120 Hz/4K/Decent processing, which I think that should be TCL and high sons main focus this year, color, and processing., And since we’re not really doing good in the economy these days, these kids in their twenties/30s/early teens 18 up looking to save a couple thousand on something bold, bright and beautiful. Great discussion. I watched the whole video when I intended to maybe just check out a few minutes. You nailed it. I have a 7 year-old 65" LG OLED. Still a great TV. Been holding off for the past two years to upgrade. I want a larger OLED and a compelling reason to upgrade. For me, that is QD-OLED. But 77" wasn't an option. Then it was, but now I see these monster mini-LED TVs for so little that unless I can get a 77" QD-OLED at $2000, I am not buying. In fact, I'm seriously looking at mini-LED now. OLED is great, and I am fine paying a bit of a premium, but a very good 85" to 100" for less than a very good 65" or 77" OLED is a tough sell nowadays.

I was on a TCL subreddit and there was a big criticism directed at miniLED makers who use brightness as a main marketing point while build quality and long term reliability is sorely lacking. Is there any rebuttal to that contention? I'm not one of these buyers who gets a new TV every couple of years. I don't care how much the tech has advance. I've commented in the past that I'm still watching my 2009 46" Samsung. When I buy a TV, I'll be watching it for 10+ years. So if I spend over $1500, I expect it to last. Brightness is nice, but how long will it last? The idea that today's buyers have accepted that it's OK for a $1000+ appliance to not last allows the makers to not be held accountable and gives them license to churn out a crap product.

It was inevitable that OLED would follow plasma, as economics isn't the only thing that holds it back. No display technology is perfect and OLED certainly isn't either. I can write a long list of things OLED will always suck at, but everyone here ought to be familiar with these things. Whether or not you are fine with the multitude of shortcomings is down to personal choice, but for many people it makes OLED an absolute no-go for tv's. When it comes down to use cases such as phones, handheld devices or VR headsets I would be perfectly happy with OLED, but as a main display - whether it's tv or monitor - OLED is out of the question; even if it was half the price of mini-LED.

I think this argument applies mostly to TVs over 85 inches with average picture quality that tend to be much cheaper for their size, but if you’re looking at premium MiniLEDs with picture quality closer to OLEDs in terms of contrast, the prices are basically the same. For example, the Sony a80L 83” OLED is the same price as the Sony x95L 85” MiniLED at 4,499; the Samsung QN95C 77” MiniLED is the same price as the S95C 77” OLED at 3,499. OLED is a premium technology and LG isn’t going to sell a $2,000, 77” OLED when they can sell two 77” LEDs at $1,000 each and make a bigger profit. These are not two competing technologies in the eyes of these tech companies but two different products to offer the consumer.

Im debating between the LG C3 and Hisense 85U8K both right at $2000. OLED to me is the best picture. My problem is my new place i sit 13ft away. If I could find the 100" Hisense for 3k i might go that route. Im not impressed with the 98" Sony or Samsung

Dude MOnitor is NOT same as Tv. I use my iPhone 14PRO love it its too small. I have my iPAD-PRO $1000 with -M Chip. It’s TOO small .lol. They are talking about Tv. The IPad -PRO frigin over priced is Mini LED> it’s like HOrandous.ABSOLUTELY 😮😮HORANDOUS . My 2021 HIsense U8G 65” makes my $1000 11” 12” 2023 iPad PRO look like $200 Dog SHI. My dude has 2 of 27” 4k led monitors look both like dog SHI , They make LED Monitors more text clearity focused , both of them NOT glossy screen. U will NOT get HIGH end LED --MOnitors on GAmming market, because LED is Biasely SEEN as inferior. They CAN make LED monitors BETTER but will cause HIGHER COST. Yet Consumers have biased perception towards the TEchnology n there is LOWER cap they are Willing to pay 💰. So they do NOT make those PREMIUM LED monitors. My 2 27” 4k monitor cost $1200 USD. Both Matte screen, Dim, 380 Peak Brighness, LOW Color . The QLED-mini LEDs TVs are so crisp Vibrant Bright. HIGH brightness, 🔆 High Color , GLOSSY screen.

Yeah Dude. Just sharing this. In case u need tv in the near future. The TV space the LED TVs are So advanced. A 2021 high end LED (not even Mini LED) makes my iPad I am using right now a true - Dog SHI , strangest experience. When I tried to play both KZbin videos. So yeah hope this helps. If u have had LED monitor. They are NOT anything Near TV . Most average consumers buy tv they do NOT spend that much time Gamming. I bought my first $2500 Made in Japan 46” SHARP Aquos Quatrum back in the day…….I spent like months no watching it cuz out partying al l the time( all friends going out, u have to show up) n had 2 jobs lol. 😂

I'm just buying OLEDS because of the large incidence of DSE on LED LCDs ... LEDs already look good enought except for DSE

After watching this - how long do we think OLEDs have before the market decides they are completely irrelevant? Maybe I should get a second S89C? 😀

Was just stuck having to kill time in a Best Buy where they had OLED and miniled on display... and the OLED is just a tad better. However, Eventually there will be a 43in miniled 4K HDR @120hz computer monitor and that will replace my current Aorus 43 because they will never be able to beat the burn-in problem inherent in OLED. I never expect to buy a "tv" again.

After seen the amazing upscale of the XR processor from Sony I can't go with any other brand! most of the comparison videos between TV models are using 4k HDR pictures or videos, but in real life most of streaming services will display their content in full HD and that where the beauty of the XR comes, it will turn any 720p or 1080p to almost 4k !! that what I actually need for my daily use, I am sure if youtubers uses full HD or half HD videos to show the upscale level, everyone will only buy Sony TVs.

Problem is they should be focusing on controlling those zones better more than adding zones.

I am a little upset with what FOMO said about 2020 Samsung q90t vs the 2019 q90r. I refer FOMO back to his 2020 review of the q90t comparing it to the q90r, where FOMO said the q90t was as good or slightly better. He did mention the fewer dimming zones but his review was as I said, as good/ slightly better. I looked at rtings and the the black uniformity on the q90t was less than the q90r. Rtings was similar other than that. Of course the one connect box, which I don't prefer. In this video, in hindsight FOMO is not too kind to the q90t. I get that 4 years later after mini leds and qd oleds ( I have a s90c). Every year we get upgrades or stagnation, the future is not clear from tv brands.
