Dr. Bright was brilliant. I watched the whole hearing. He was calm in the face of personal attacks, egregiously stupid questions, and questioners who were obviously not paying attention or using their question time to campaign. He refused to be pulled in to politico baiting from both sides. I was very impressed by his persistent adherence to the science. He was grilled and words were put in his mouth about chloraquine, yet he was consistent and insistent, repeating over and over that he wanted controlled investigation of chloraquine and ANY drug with an indication of positive anecdotal outcomes but negative about releasing chloraquine to public, retail use without close supervision of a physician. Despite the fact that some of the questioners didn't "get it" that a drug can be safe in one use and not be safe in another, he repeated the facts, presumably in the hopes that they'd listen and hear what he was actually saying instead of what they wanted to hear. Repeatedly, he ignored taunts to opine about areas outside his area of expertise. I am so impressed by his leadership, sense of responsibility, and dedication to saving lives in a careful and controlled way to maximize public health and safety. We need scientists like him in leadership roles in public service.
@jessicaolson4904 жыл бұрын
Chloroquine is also not a safe drug, it's risks might be outweighed when it comes to preventing malaria (a very serious disease) or lupus (also very serious condition that is life limiting), but that doesn't make it worth using "over the counter". It stays bound to your tissues for 40+ days and the thresh hold for overdose is low (only about 10x), even one adult tablet can kill a child. These people don't know this or take it into account. There needs to be a little more trust when medical professionals say " this drug needs to be done under a doctor's supervision". PS I agree, he was so professional with them. I would have had a hard time not reflexively rolling my eyes or scoffing at some of their questions. :S
@jessicaolson4904 жыл бұрын
Also even taken in correct amounts you can have toxicity or nasty side effects (including death). :S in nursing school only a select list of drugs are flagged as extra dangerous for us to memorize as such, this drug family was one of them (for my school anyway).
@laraesque4 жыл бұрын
@@jessicaolson490 And the whole point that Bright was making is that you don't just let a drug out on the OTC market without careful testing, however desperate you are. I was amazed at the cardiologist there who was arguing about it, saying that doctors use drugs off-label when they think it's warranted. And that's exactly what Bright's team okayed with the Emergency Use approval. Under a doctor's close supervision. Some of these people were just arguing to get votes from constituents.

I live in the middle of Iowa...we can go for walks without coming within *sixty* feet of other people (so we typically don’t need to wear a mask on these jaunts), but we’re in a red zone thanks to our meat-packing plant choosing to not close even when they knew they had a huge outbreak (cuz people need their bacon way more than they need their lungs 🙄). So, our kids haven’t been in school since Spring Break, we have essential workers and our nursing home residents contracting the virus at a truly terrifying rate, maintenance healthcare has been cut to the bare minimum, and thousands of people working at home while thousands more have been laid off, lost their businesses, or were fired for refusing to work in unsafe environments. But, the one thing we DO NOT have to worry about is *wearing our masks in the shower* 🤯.

Everything you've pointed out is true. Let me add the fact that a lot of hard-working soy bean and corn farmers have already been driven into bankruptcy by Trump's tariff war with China. Then he devised a plan to give out government money to those farmers. Trouble is, when he is out of office and in jail where he belongs (tax evasion, corruption, treason, etc.) those farmers have lost their markets which they had worked so hard to establish before America became Trumpland.

@@monicafarrington7798 As a midwesterner, I feel obliged to point out there are no longer any small farmers due to vertical integration. We've basically been subsidizing the corporate consolidation of our farm industry for 30 years. And due to the vagaries of our tax system, a lot of these corporate farms manage to dodge their tax burden, which has destroyed our rural tax base and left our roads, schools, and other infrastructure in a truly decrepit state.

@jp Amen. You're absolutely right. I live in the northeast, 300 miles from NYC. His crooked business practices are well known here going back to his promise to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to gift them the limestone frescoes on the Bonwit Teller store he purchased when he demolished it to build Trump Tower. He destroyed the frescoes instead, saying they were worthless. Right! The MMA wanted something worthless! He thinks he is smarter than the experts at the MMA. Then he bribed local officials to use eminent domain to seize the home of a widow, Mrs. Vera Coking, in Atlantic City, so he could then get the property from the city to raze it and pave a parking lot for limousines for his casino. His trail of theft and crooked dealings is lifelong. All the while he cheats on his wives and calls tabloids to tell them about it. He used to disguise his voice and identify himself as John Barron when he'd call various magazines trying to get publicity. He sees himself as royalty, hence he even used that Baron moniker for his son with his third wife, Melania, a porn model who entered the US and worked illegally here (where are her papers?). To make matters worse, she is the daughter of a Viktor Knavs, a registered Communist in Slovinia. But have no fear, Kiktor and his wife are now American citizens via chain migration. They can come and go in the White House to visit their grandchild Baron.

I saw that, absolutely mental. Not sure what was worse, making fun of contact tracing, which would obviously help, or thinking you could contact trace heart disease and Cancer. Wasn’t he Mayor of New York. Be funny if it wasn’t so scary.

Where is Rudi? His stupid comments in defense of Dumbass are the best arguments for his removal.

Trump is in charge when he wants, he delegates when he wants to pass the blame.

No, Trump realized that a country of 330 million people and very diverse could not fight the virus with a single plan. It would be impossible. Yes, he let the different regions of the country fight the virus according to their needs at hand. The Federal Government set down guidelines and let the Governors attack the virus according to their states needs. He delegated authority which any one who has studied management will tell you is the proper thing to do when facing a large problem. You break it down to smaller sections and have a ladder of authority.An example a Governor determined more hospital beds and ventilators were needed. Trump had field hospitals built by the Army Corp of Engineers and manufactures make the ventilators. The cities of Los Angeles and New Your had ports that could accommodate hospital ships. The top manager Trump sent ships. This is what a manager worth his salt would have done.Trump did a great job.

@@nedstewart1 no he's doing a terrible job. Listen to the scientists and doctors. They r literally saying that we need a more uniformed and national response. We don't need 50 different states doing 50 different things to see who works better and risking the lives of innocent americans while we figure out which method from which state works best. Look at all the countries who r successfully fighting this thing. They have a national mobilized effort they don't have individual provinces doing whatever they want. We need a nationwide testing effort. Lockdown protocols can vary depending on the area but we need national policies in place not state policies as this is a national crisis not a state specific crisis. And at the forefront of all this needs to be the president. But all he wants to do is delegate roles and take no responsibility or accountability. this is not the time for that. We need the federal government to oversee things. I work in the laboratory and this is how we manage medical crises. When we have a medical emergency (which this is) everyone mobilizes and adjusts their workflow and tasks accordingly and overseeing all that is our manager/supervisors. But we have specific universal policies that govern everyone so that everyone knows what to do and their their task is. We don't have people running around doing whatever they want without a plan, because that's a sure fired way to kill people.
