Secondly, I would propose that any persons that learned to play a wind instrument requiring an embouchure have inadvertently learned to whistle. There's such a subtlety with your tongue that affects playing and, of course, whistling.

I had a Native American friend years ago who said whistling at night was frowned upon in their culture because it would attract nearby spirits.
