Hi Luke, it was a good conversation between Rob and you. It takes so much more than just learning a language to understand people, build relationships, etc. Many aspects were addressed by both of you. Good work and helpful for us. Thank you very much!

Hi Luke, I really did enjoy learning about networking in English with Rob, even though I don't network myself. Listening and watching your videos reminds me with nostalgia of my travels in England. I find that the English are much more tolerant, discreet, respectful and more friendly with shy or reserved people. As a French person, I'm myself shocked by the incessant mockery of people when faced with what is different, and I often feel like an alien ! So I do understand what you feel about it. Anyway, everyone does his best after all, it'd just be wonderful if people were even just a little bit more open-minded 🙏 Thanks a lot to Rob and you for this great and very interesting video, and take good care. And now, it's time for me, before writing a book 😅 to say goodbye bye bye bye 😀

This is absolutely one of my favourite topics and it reminds me of a book my fellow English learners and I decided to read together: The Culture Map by Erin Meyer. It's a very interesting book not only if you work in a global workplace but also if you are interested in knowing more about other cultures especially when it comes to communication, evaluating (direct negative feedback vs indirect negative feedback), disagreeing, perception of time (!) etc. I liked the expression both of you used "to read the room", something we should aim to whatever context we are in. Thanks Luke, once again, for such compelling conversations and for letting us know new interesting guests! Networking at its best, isn't it? 😊

Interesting topic. I will run to Ron's Chanel to watch the second part of this. I took an English business course for three weeks in London back in 2015. There were people from many countries so it was interesting knowing about other realities. I became awared of those formality and cultural codes but I also learned that every field has its jargon and that plays an key role in communication too.

Thank you, Luke and Rob. It's been very interesting to hear about cross cultures and now I'm positive that we should say 'interesting' when we don't like something or somebody in the UK! I could write about my experiences with people from other countries but I'm afraid nobody would read them. We could learn a great deal about diplomacy with teachers like you two. As regards music, Ed Sheeran is my number one solo singer. I like all his songs. Before him, I was fond of Freddie Mercury and then, Robbie Williams. 🎉

Greetings to you from Latvia! I noticed that English as a second language was mentioned in your conversation. I am learning English as a third language and feel interested in learning it better :) In the last months I have discovered and listened to Luke's youtube recordings with English subtitles. It all started with a walk in Paris, which ended with a ride on a bicycle, which I watched on Luke's recording. I spotted places I had been to myself and was delighted to see them again. I would love to do another walk like that outside, in the streets, squares and parks of Paris.

I think the main problem when you use spesific form of English is terminology- you must have this spesific education to understand what you are talking about And the main problem there is many spesific words that is difficult to remember on forein language and axerpt that there are a lot of abriviations and that means that you need Net to understand it mostly

I need to say something about your decision not to play the guitar and sing in LEP episodes. Why have you abandoned the possibility of playing in audio versions only? Why are you so rigid in this matter, even if it's a pity for you too? I don't quite understand, again. I know it's not the most important thing here, it's just additional content only for a part of your listeners who accept it. But you put it so strong now, without any flexibility. Why?
@LukesEnglishPodcast
@LukesEnglishPodcast 5 ай бұрын
I think you’ve misunderstood. It’s not in audio versions only, it’s on KZbin in particular. As I explained, the reason is that when I do a song, KZbin’s automatic copyright detection system detects it and then demonetises my video (well, technically any advertising revenue goes to the record company who owns the song, and I get nothing). So, I don’t get any ad revenue. So, I have to stop doing songs if I want to receive advertising money from my KZbin videos.
@mratre7335
@mratre7335 5 ай бұрын
@@LukesEnglishPodcast OK, I've heard that you were talking about KZbin and monetizing your work, but it sounded to me like you decided not to play at all. Or maybe on the other channel - but without conviction. Now, I understand that you are looking for a new way, some proper formula to present music related stuff, is that so?
@LukesEnglishPodcast
@LukesEnglishPodcast 5 ай бұрын
@@mratre7335 No. I was saying that I should not sing songs on my podcast any more because I don’t get paid any advertising revenue when I do that. As an alternative I said that I might sing songs on my other (music based) channel, because it doesn’t make me any money. Normally I wouldn’t care about the money, but KZbin ad revenue is a big part of my income these days.
@mratre7335
@mratre7335 5 ай бұрын
@@LukesEnglishPodcast The couple of songs which you played recently on the audio versions as well as on KZbin were kind of an experiment. Now you know that you are losing your income because of that, so you won't be publishing songs on KZbin LEP channel, but it's still possible in the audio versions and, maybe, on @lukulele - KZbin?
