White 4-225 chisel plows

It's tillage time! I've got a compacted lane to break up and the moisture is good, for a few more hours anyways. The 4-225 is fresh from an oil change and ready to pull the Glencoe 9 shank chisel plow with its 5 extra deep till shanks on the back, reaching down to break up that compaction. And I fly the drone while driving! Will I get pulled over? Tune in and find out.

Thanks! It's pretty impressive how much wind it can handle, but it still has its limits. Most of the manufacturers list how strong of wind each model can handle.

That's a good question. I went to Deere's website to price a tractor. Their lowest horsepower articulated tractor is 390 horses, so went with a conventional tractor with FWA and 230 horsepower. Before I even got to tacking on options it was $353, 885. I bet I could rebuild my old white a couple times for that.

Grandpa bought a Glencoe 9 shank new, ended up on our Massey 2745, it broke in to 169hp at pto. That thing would pull all day ! Never seen extra shanks, quite a few leveler bars/sweeps added around here

It was a Glencoe option. The shanks were longer to deep til, and the tube they are mounted on is filled to add weight. They follow in line with the 5 rear regular shanks so they only have to work up the deep part and not the whole way down.

Chris your 4-225 White tractor did had the Hercules engine? Did White tractors put Hercules engine in all tractors? How many was made of 4-225 what year tractor? This tractor has the factory Caterpillar 3208 turbo. Oliver and White worked with outside venders quite a bit, especially on their highest horsepower models. The cost of designing a bigger engine for the limited number they would sell was cost prohibitive. They used General Motors, Hercules, Cat, and later on, Cummins. My 4-225 is a 1983 model. I saw a production sheet once, and the 4-225 was only a couple hundred produced. I don't remember the exact number. The early 80s was a tough time for farmers, which meant the same for farm equipment manufacturers. Around 1981 White Motor had sold off its agricultural division to TIC, Texas Investment Corporation. They changed the name from White to White Farm Equipment, and that's when the WFE logo and name appeared on yhe tractors. They inherited a lot of debt that was starting to come due , so in 1985 they sold the combine line to Massey Ferguson in order to pay down that debt. I think it was 1987 when TIC sold White to Allied Equipment, the same company that owned New Idea. The company became White-New Idea, but each brand kept its own identity. In 1991 Allied sold the tractor line to the new formed AGCO. The following year the rest of White-New Idea was sold to AGCO, which still owns both brands and the preceding companies that had built them.

White and Oliver used several engines. Cummins, Cats, Perkins, Detroit, Oliver Waukesha and Continental. White was bought out by Agco in the Nineties.
