Nice to see these older combines still in Action, Especially the odder ones. My mentor growing ups dad bought a 9700 White new in 79 and they ran it on there Farm up until 2017 and along the way they picked up two more. They ended up selling the 3-9700's tp a guy that already had 2-9700's 2-9720's and one 8590 MF. SO the guy now has 7 machines its quite a sight. I always enjoyed going for a ride and listening to that big Perkins snort! A big reason both of these farms bough multiple combines was to have parts as they are getting harder to source.

Looks like all the work paid off fixing the old girl up, It's nice you got a good reward for saving it. that sample looks better than what I saw in a customers yard today that came out of a way newer and expensive JD ! Over filling those trucks reminded me of 15 years ago when I worked full time for the JD combine guy. He told me fill the old GMC tag axle tandem with a good load and take it to town. I thought the old gas engine truck was gutless on the way in, Oh yeah it was with over 700 bushel on it when the ticket was printed. @@Oliver66FarmBoy just a cute little single axle semi with a single hopper bottom trailer will easily haul the 600-700 bushel you do with 2 straight trucks so then you'd have less time going to the elevator and less fuel bill.
@Oliver66FarmBoy
@Oliver66FarmBoy 2 жыл бұрын
Ok. But first you have to buy the semi. 8-9 grand for a driver but no beauty Queen. Then you have to buy a hopper bottom. In the current market 8-10 grand for a nice rust free trailer. Then yearly DOT inspections, 2500-3000 dollars depending on your state. DOT number. Don’t even know how much that costs right now. Commercial truck insurance with a good liability policy, close to 2 grand a year. Commercial plates because I’m not going to waste money with farm plates because they are to limiting. You have none of those expenses with 2 straight trucks. You don’t just go out and buy a semi and start using it.

@@Oliver66FarmBoy wow that sucks for what a semi costs to keep on the road there. Up here it costs me 102 bucks a year for insurance because I'm under a thousand km a year and not commerial. Not really. It’s only 115 horse. You compare that to a Deere 6620 at 130 horse, IH 1440 at 135 horse or a New Holland TR75 at 145 horse it’s pretty much at the back of the pack in it’s size class. It’s only 15 more horse than a 7300. By the time you run the head, thrasher and hydro you don’t have much reserve left. Pretty much anybody you talk to says the 8700 should have had a 354T at 145 horse like the 8900 had and the 8900 should have been turboed and inter cooled at about 165-170.

Putting a turbo on a NA engine is a bad idea. Turbocharged engines run a lower compression ratio to compensate for the boost. You don’t lower the compress ratio you greatly increase the EGT’s and you start melting stuff down. That’s why so many 4020s and 560s failed when guys added the M&W turbo’s. Guys were cheap and just put the turbo on without adding the rest of the kit like M&W recommended. All a turbo does is kill engine longevity.

1) Those trucks are only overloaded with money. Not a bad thing. 2) Dogs eat and drink nasty stuff. It is what it is. 3) That 8700 looks to be about the same size as a Deere 6600 or an IH 815, which when I was small, were pretty big machines. Now they all look tiny compared to everything on the market now. P.S: You may want to invest in an external microphone now. It was very hard to hear you while in the cab. Really great to see this old girl back on her feet. Too many good machines go to China everyday.

When you get a truck that is too full like that fill the corners. That is the last place it will spill from.

My 8700 with less than 2500 hours and probably about 500 hours on an engine overhaul will keep up with a JD 6620 in wheat and beans but I don't go too fast. I don't know about corn as I don't grow it. I do have a White 706N corn head. Would you like to buy it?

Glad something started going good. We had a Gleaner M2 years ago with a 15 ft table and 6 row corn head. Ours had the 301 turbo charged diesel and would do pretty decent. In heavy crops it would peg the boost gauge. What year is your combine?
