I know this is a controversial opinion among WA2 fans but I genuinely believe this is the correct/true ending of CODA, and it is the only satisfying ending to me. Spoiler alert as to why, be forewarned. I think the reason people find this ending boring/unsatisfactory is precisely why it works from a narrative standpoint: this ending isn't a surprise given the backstory of CC/CODA. Setsuna put in the hard work and built a strong relationship on a strong foundation, so that she ends up with Haruki isn't surprising, it's just a natural culmination of their relationship. But that's what separates true love from a crush, true love takes hard work, and if WA2 can be said to have a moral/message, it is precisely that. Also I think a lot of people don't like this ending because they wanted Haruki to end up with Kazusa, BUT - and I say this as someone who likes Kazusa a lot in isolation and sees their past self in her - I genuinely do not think that Haruki and Kazusa belong together in CODA. Kazusa, in CODA, is NOT a fully realized person. Yes, she's pathetic and moe and all but she is not capable of putting Haruki's needs before her own, and she is not capable being an equal partner who can help their partner grow, nor is Haruki capable/willing to push her to grow, and that is NOT a foundation for a strong relationship. Kazusa needs to learn to stand on her own two feet before she's ready to be in a relationship with anyone, and she's just not capable of that in CODA. You see that on full display in Kazusa true end, where, instead of learning to bury the hatchet with Setsuna, she wrenches Haruki away from his entire support network just because she's afraid she might lose him if she doesn't run away. If she were a stronger, more fully-realized person, she would see that that would be a mistake and work hard to find a way for them to stay in Japan like Setsuna does for her in Setsuna true (and Haruki not calling out leaving Japan as a horrible idea is also bad). There is a possible true happy end for Kazusa and Haruki but it exists in IC, not in CODA. Kazusa needs a support network that pushes her to be a stronger individual who is capable of being in a relationship and putting someone else's needs before her own, and the only way she could have had that is in IC if Setsuna hadn't confessed (and I don't blame her for that btw, I genuinely like both girls). And Setsuna is just the better influence in both Haruki and Kazusa's lives. She IS a fully realized person who is capable of putting someone else's needs before her own and dealing with the hardships of life as a partner and equal, and of pushing Haruki to grow. AND, importantly for Kazusa, she is also capable of pushing Kazusa to grow. In Setsuna true, Kazusa is capable of moving on and finding love again, she is capable of becoming someone worthy of that love. She needs a friend like Setsuna around.

If I can also add something, I believe someone made the point that each of the routes except the normal were the expression of one of the characters wishes. Setsuna ( you already described it ), Kazuza true being the ending of haruki and the cheating route being the one where kazuza gets what she wants\aacts on her own accord. Did not play play any routes except the setsuna ones(and I plan to either) so I can't confirm. P.S. Honestly going wih anything else than setsuna in the game seems like purposefully putting your house on fire .You can consider it, but just realize you should not one second later. That's how I felt it anyway.

The ending is too sweet for some people (including me). It's not fit the theme and essence of what white album 2 story about what true love is and sweet and bitter in it. Setsuna ending called fairy tale ending not because it's too good to be true in real life, but because everything is essentially like a traditional story fairy tale which lead to happy ending for everyone.

Setsuna True is just as good as Kazusa True and Normal. Tho Kazusa Normal does have my favorite scene in the VN(Kazusa departing, shit was saddest thing here and i was crying like a baby), but it's dragged down to their level by most of it being not as eventful as the other two. Setsuna True encompasses everything that Setsuna wished for all this time and one time when she gets a happy ending she deserved. we also get amazing character development from Kazusa, she has the biggest chara development here actually. Kazusa True speaks for itself, WA2 back at it again man, my tears fall instead of snow. also this song is fucking amazing

Honestly I have to agree. Kazusa Normal gives us a Haruki that was unable to grow from the person he was in IC, makes the same mistakes, and ends up losing everything as a result, and is a cautionary tale about cowardice and the inability to be truthful or decisive. Setsuna True shows how Haruki has grown to truly love Setsuna, not just by accepting and forgiving her faults, but by becoming a better partner to her by being honest and vulnerable with her, establishing a deeper bond than simple attraction. Kazusa True has Haruki following his heart, rejecting the role he'd been thrust into by his friends and Setsuna, and deciding to be with Kazusa after everything, because that's what he wants. None of this mentions Setsuna or Kazusa's parts in those endings, which are just as important, and just as meaningful. All three endings are incredible, and I simply can't pick between them, myself. That being said, Toki no Mahou is my favourite of the ending songs in Coda. Yasashii Uso still wins overall, though.
