White Crane Fist vs Wing Chun.

The history of the appearance of The White Crane Fist and Wing Chun is similar. In both names it is a style created by a nun,
who was watching a crane and according to her observation she created a style using flexible force. The movements in both styles are very similar. What is the reason and how are these two styles connected? Today you will know the answer.

From my understanding, White Crane is the base root and inspiration for Wing Chun. The first rendition of White Crane came about in the 1500's and as it evolved, Wing Chun came about during the 1600's. Both were developed by female Shaolin monks, Fan Quinlang and Ng Mui, respectively. So the lineage is a bit older than what the master had mentioned in the video.

These are popular folk stories, not actual history. The existence of Ng Mui and Fang Qiniang can not be proven and in fact the attributions to them were first made since the Hongkong and Taiwan eras of the two styles. Moreover most styles in this area are from about 19th century, the very oldest from the 18th.

I first started learning crane and when I talked to Sifu hawkins cheung he first mentioned: 'What do you know crane?' How he knew that I don't know but later he just taught me wing chun. Crane is still there, inherent in wing chun.

Agreed. Southern Crane boxing from Fujian was one of the main ancestors of both Fo'shan Wing Chun and Okinawan Karate. It seems likely that by the late 19th Century that Crane's origin story about Fang Qiniang simply morphed into the Ng Mui and Wing Chun stories as the systems were passed down in Fo'shan. What's interesting to me is how the martial arts with ancestry in Crane boxing , like Karate and Wing Chun, diverged so far and in so many ways. Neither looks (or "feels") like the other, yet both still bear some traits, some shared DNA that clearly harkens back to this common ancestor.

The yong chun they were referring to is a place in fujian province. Not that Wing Chun. My goodness. Some of you. Whenever in doubt, ask a chinese. Yong chun bai he quan. Not wing chun quan.

Yong Chun Quan is just mandarin for cantonese Wing Chun Kuen!

The thing that this master's opinion, which is all that it is, ignores, is the different masters and branches in the lineage of Yong Chuan (Wing Chung). The master is basically saying that Wing Chung grew out of White Crane, and that is somewhat true, but it became a distinct art in its own right, with various branches. That is what he fails to explain, and/or dignify.

Yes, they have over-simplified the history a lot. Wing Chun's own history is highly debated and the way the variations have come about is even more fascinating, but IMO, I see more connection with HUNG KUEN and Wing Chun, than there is with White Crane. White Crane as a system is much more complicated than ANY Wing Chun variation. Hung Kuen's 12 BRIDGING sets of hands IMO looks closer to Wing Chun in practice than does White Crane. A lot of systems in the south have intermixed with each other so there will be a lot of variations of kung fu that look similar. If you jump into Red Boat Opera histories and the Tiandihui, you'll run into history where there was a lot of mixing and learning from martial artists and is a reason why a lot of arts in the south look so similar. To say Wing Chun comes from White Crane is too simplistic. Besides some common hands shared amongst all southern systems, it does not include any of White Crane's complicated breathing patterns nor does any of Wing Chun's other forms bare any resemblance to White Crane other than the stance. A lot of kung fu styles are also named after the towns that they come from, YONG CHUN Quan could have been just White Crane's second name meanwhile another style with a similar name was being developed elsewhere.

It's not 100% clear what Higaonna learned in China. Might be White Crane, might as well be Wuzu or Luohan. There is no reliable source on this.

I disagree with this video....wing chun maybe a fusion but totally white crane.....no way. At this point in time, no one truly knows wing chun's true origins. We are only speculating at best. The snake and crane fight, might just be an analogy of the fusion...maybe a story to conceal it's creator and/or its history.

А зачем Вам объяснять? Вы и так всё знаете))) а вот что стоило бы объяснить, так это то, что ролик не об этом. А вообще у нас есть 5 серийный фильм о Белом Журавле, где всё объясняется. Но, это видимо для тех кто не ленится искать. Тем кто ленится, тем да, всё нужно сразу объяснять, даже там где речь о другом.

mightymeatmonsta omg. Most southern fist chinese martial arts derived from the southern shaolin temple. Choy li fut consist of Choy gar kung fu, li ( li yau san- chang heung's uncle) and fut ( fat gar kuen). White crane on the other hand was brought to japan and is called okinawa karate. Does wing chun look like karate to you?

Well white crane is a chinese system that was changed to be useful in the environment that Japan has to offer. It's different than white crane, you fucking imbecile, and is made to be hard. Wing chun consists of five systems, choy li fut, hung gar, white crane, white eyebrow and shaolin. It wasn't made by watching a crane and a snake, or by a woman who NEVER EXISTED!
