I predict a housing crash due to people buying homes over asking price, lacking equity if prices decline further. Foreclosure becomes likely if they can't afford the house, and selling won't yield profits. With anticipated layoffs and rising living costs, many individuals may face this situation.

There's one issue of housing that no one is talking about: there are cities with lots of units that could be lived in or merely renovated before renting or selling them, but no one wants to live in them. Gary, Indiana has a large number of unoccupied homes. No one wants to live there because Indiana sucks and there is no one hiring in this town that pays a decent wage. Detroit and St Louis are half the size they were 50 years ago. Why? Lack of employment opportunities, crime and family unfriendly policies.

First I was squeezed out of San Francisco where I'd lived for 25 years DESPITE the historic housing shortage there since the 70's, NOW I'm being squeezed out of the quiet east bay town I found on Alameda island... All the massive developments on the island are for market rate condos etc. The requirements to include some affordable units are transmuted to developers providing bike lanes, bus stops and other small amenities for the community. However it is still illegal to sleep on one of those bus stop benches! We need affordable housing in a way that means people's accomodations ought not be tied to market pressures to grow profits. As long as the profit motive remains high, we will have this problem.

Where are the ranch style 3 bed 2 bath type homes, 1500-1800 sq ft house for the first time home buyer? You want to fix the housing market, build this type of home and price it at $180K-$230K so a you person or 3 person family making $100K a year can afford to buy it, its really not that hard. Again not everyone is trying to show off for the online community.

Your monthly rent has went up 5% + CPI which is at 3% now. That's an annual increase of 8% every year on your rent. Your rent increase was 10% for close to 2 years. The brightside is that it can't go up more than 10%. The Inflation was around 1.3% under Trump. Which was 6.3% in CA that the slumlords increased the rent every year by. Which is whole lot better than 10% 9% and 8%.

The government suddenly made housing for all and isn't differentiating between citizens and illegal immigrants. That's one problem not letting the housing cover us first. The other is subsidized housing has raised the rate too high too fast letting them landlords raise the rates too high, so the actual poor and unsubsidized can't compete. Then the other main problem is the SSI rates are too low for any retired to afford rent. They can't afford a home because the property taxes are too high. They have to live at least two retired per home, go to pantries, get food stamps and shop at thrift stores. Even then they can't afford a car loan payment or a major car repair. The low incone housing recipients never get out of them low income rentals their entire lives, if they're lucky. The rest are in the streets with drug charges moved cross country to get away and live. It's basicaly all the drug users nationwide all flocked to the coasts and dying in large numbers with no way out, no hope. Please give them your old clothes, food, and few dollars. Them are our relatives. It may keep them from dying or being murdered.

Giving more money to developers. Once again only the wealthy will benefit from a program that’s supposed to help common folk. I got excited about this for a minute….

It's a noble venture. In the end, when the Republicans take back control, they will cancel all these commercial real estate investors obligations to HUD, and all that would have done is that the federal government would have subsidized and boosted the overpriced commercial real estate market.

So more rich people can own more multiple homes. The average American can't afford to buy a house never mind keep it up. "The American Dream" is just that, a fever dream. I was lied to by my parents. In turn I lied to my own daughter and now she calls me out on it. If you work hard in this country you will be forever beholding to your corporate bosses for your pay check, get paid just enough above your bills to feed and cloth your family and never own a house. If you are lucky you will have enough to rent a small apartment. If your not so lucky you are homeless.
