One thing I couldn't help but doubt in this movie, is that a JOURNALIST was one of the first people to enter the Oval Office and confront the president. In reality the military would NOT let a civilian with a camera anywhere near the white house during the assault...

Remember that this ISN'T the US military, it's a rebel faction with a large amount of military equipment, and presumably a significant number of its combatants are turncoats. The ultimate prize for this military is legitimacy as the heir presumptive of the US government. Given that the US president seems incredibly unpopular, and has unified multiple rebel factions against him, whichever side takes him out will gain a massive boost in perceived legitimacy. That ending photo is probably worth thousands of lives.

The problem with modern (American) journalism is the compulsion to editorialize. This is largely due to ratings/money, which results in a less objective take on things-and why Americans have lost faith in the 4th column. Jan 2026: 2 years after his inauguration, Trump's signs of dementia becomes more and more aggressive Nov 2026: In the aftermath of a disastrous townhall 1 week before the midterms, Trump is removed from the presidency by a bipartisan congressional vote. JD Vance is now the president of the USA. In order to drum up conservative turnout, Vance immediately promises a nationwide abortion ban. late Nov 2026: Vance's gamble works and Republicans turnout for the vote in record numbers for a midterm election. The Republicans sweep both houses, mostly in the swing states. However, blue states still retain their blue legislatures and seats. Dec 2026: After a historic vote, Vance signs into law the 'Widespread Defence of Embryos' (WADE) Act, defunding planned parenthood and making abortion illegal in all 50 US states. The governors of New York, California, Oregon, Washington and New England states immediately denounce the act and refuse to enforce it, citing state's rights and that abortion is not a federal issue. Jan 2027: The 'million woman march' in Washington DC is violently put down after a proud boy attempts to ram the protestors, leading to an armed protest member who was also a member of the Socialist Rifle Association (SRA) to open fire on his vehicle. The bullets pass through the car and hit local law enforcement by accident, leading to widespread pandemonium. late Jan 2027: The US Supreme Court sides along party lines that the WADE Act is lawful. JD Vance goes on a televised address, stating that it is the duty of a soldier of god to "stop the murders of newborns" across the country. Feb 2027: Violence across the blue states still practicing abortion increases as clinics get firebombed. The governor of California calls in his national guard to protect women's health clinics in the state. Mar 2027: A co-ordinated proud boy attack on abortion clinics in California end violently as 12 members and 8 guardsmen are killed with scores more wounded in the crossfire. Vance mobilises the 101st Airborne Division from their garrison in Kentucky and sends them to California, to "protect the peaceful protestors voicing their 1st amendment rights from a violent governor". 2nd Apr 2027: The 'Sacramento Standoff' begins, as members of the 101st attempting to remove the governor of California face off members of the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (California National Guard) and Californian civilians around Sacramento outside the Governor's office. 3rd Apr 2027: Observing the events, Oregon and Washington also mobilise their national guards, sending some to California. 4th Apr 2027: New York, Maryland and the New England states, horrified by the president's attempt at violent overthrow of an elected governor, also mobilise their national guards 5th Apr 2027: Vance recalls all foreign deployed US military assets, and gives the governors of the "rebellious states" 1 week to stand down or be "removed by force". 11th Apr 2027: Citing the "deterioration of democracy" and "extreme overreach by the president", California votes to secede from the union. They are soon joined by Oregon and Washington and announce the creation of the "Western Forces". 12th Apr 2027: Attempting to seize the initiative, Vance orders the US Army attempts to march into New York. They are however stopped on the roads by large crowds of protestors from Philadelphia. Several battalions of US Marines with their Navy ships land in Boston, Rhode Island and other New England cities, however they immediately defect and start fortifying the cities whilst leaving the governors alone. Vance mobilises the national guards of the 'loyal' states and encourages free citizens to volunteer for 90 days in militias to "preserve the union". 166 years to the day, the Second American Civil War starts.
