Olympus Has Fallen is darker and more political. White House Down was lighter and had a personal angle. So, I don't think one is better than the other, it's just about what you prefer.

And why did the intelligent bad guy leave a room made to withstand atomic bombs, minutes before hundreds of them were to explode everywhere in the country? Why did he blast a hole into the wall? White House Down is a bit of a more cliché action movie version of Olympus Had Fallen, but I quite liked both.
@DerDudelino9 жыл бұрын
Olympus has Fallen is much, much better, because they put way more effort into the taking of The White House. It's so weird and extremely unbelievable, when five guys pretend to install a surround system, kill one agent, get one gun and are capable of taking out an entire secret service team, steal their guns and take over an almost empty White House - like they are probably shooting 10 agents versus 100 in Olympus has fallen. I liked the cartoony characters, but the script was crap.

oh Olympus Has Fallen, by far. Although I will say, I really appreciate the one scene where Channing Tatum's daughter is being held at gunpoint in front of Jamie Foxx, and he basically says "I'm sorry, but I'm going to let you die, so that other people can live." The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few as Spock put it once.

@Datamike10 жыл бұрын
I am inclined to agree; Olympus Has Fallen was a pretty mindless action movie. It was even less believable than this type of movies usually are, full of cliches, and ridiculous story twists. If cinemasins were to ever do Olympus Has Fallen, it would be 20 minutes long. White House Down actually had characters, build up, and a storyline that at least made some sense. It wasn't that it had better actors, but I actually found myself caring about these characters. In Olympus it was just a navy seal version of jason bourne / john mcclane running through the building kicking peoples' ass. In White House the protagonist didn't look like he had super powers, which I liked. He was human and mortal. I particularly didn't get what Jeremy's issue with the start of the movie was. Sure it was slow but I preferred that over anonymous characters driving off the bridge screaming "noooo!! my wife!!!" and having a dramatic time. That made no sense to me; at that point, I could not possibly be asked to care about these people.

White House Down works well in its action sequences, producing scenes that can't be replicated by other movies. After all, where can I find a movie with a car chase on the White House lawn while tanks and rocket launchers are in play? To me, White House Down works as well as Die Hard does (the script may even be based of it), which is well

I liked it better than Good Day to Die Hard, which was terrible, and since this movie reminds me a ton of the original Die Hard. First 30 min spent introducing all the elements? Check. Villains takeover a specific building with ease and establish dominance? Check. Often cartoony characters? Check. One man who's a total badass who has family to fight for? Check. I liked it.

I feel that Olympus Has Fallen takes a lot more suspension of disbelief to function than White House Down. Things like flying a plane, nevertheless a gunship anywhere near DC, taking the White House with like a few dozen terrorists, finding prototype anti-helicopter weaponry that can destroy any helicopter and introducing a plot device that can blow up every nuke in America requires a lot of suspension of disbelief, and there's only so much you can have. And while White House Down does have some crazy and ridiculous scenes, like that car chase on the White House Lawn, it's grounded in reality because we know it exists and we know it's reasonably possible. Instead of killing everybody in the White House, they push them out with an evacuation. Instead of using a MacMuffin that allows them to just destroy all of the attacking helicopters, they use Javelins. We can believe that if the White House was taken, these things could reasonably happen.

I like mindless action movies as much as the next person, and while I enjoyed both Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down, I liked WHD better because OHF was too serious for me. I actually quite preferred White House Down over Olympus Had Fallen. In a post 911 would, that plane in OHF never, ever would have made it into DC airspace. For me WHD was just more fun without all the unnecessary angst, I don't have to worry about my kids coming into the room with WHD on, and WHD just had more iconic moments. Wave that flag, Beezus! Jamie Fox explaining to a twelve year old girl why she should be cool with getting her head blown off is something I will never forget.

Here are some things wrong with this movie: 1. Less then a dozen villains efforthlessly capture the White House. They just walk in, cause an explosion, and then they easily kill all the guards. It would be harder to capture an ordinary police station in RL than that. 2. This movie has absolutely no gore or blood. This makes the deaths look very fake. 3. The entire USA army has only one very fragile tank in this movie. 4. Jaimie Foxx's role in this movie mainly consists of just shouting something lame during an intense scene. 5. The very cartoonish car chace scene. 6. The White House doesn't have any built-in defenses in this movie. 7. The annoying tour guide character.

Personally i had more fun with this than Olympus has Fallen, which was good. But this one just had the more creative action sequences, and consistency in the action. It didn't slow down, kept a great pace and just str8 up had the better spec fx and use of real squibs tearing up walls, and pretty much everything around, except for bodies caz u know its a pg-13. making it a rated R doesn't make for better action. OHF is still pretty cool tho.

My pick is White House Down And boring dialogue scenes? Jeremy, I generally tend to agree with your assessments of movies but on this one we are polar opposites. I really enjoyed this movie, it was a lot better than I was expecting. One of the things I liked most is that it didn't rely on the typical "Foreign terrorist" angle. I really appreciated that the threat was purely internal and I just got a better and more interesting experience out of it. And it has James Woods, come on!
