The fact that Godzilla Minus One was shot for 15-20 million basically exposes how ridiculous budgets for "Hollywood Productions" have gotten. Like... That awesome film was shot for less than The Rock's salary
@FlyingFocs

And the best part is that was the average cost for a Godzilla movie. Yeah, something like 10-15 million USD since about the 80s is what Toho gives to one of its more popular IPs. And people are fine with that.

I think the Hollywood budget also has to do with all of the additional stipulations from union workers and what the law requires based on what state/country the movie is shot. Filming in Japan can be just as expensive but usually the actresses/actors salary is very low and The people working behind the scenes do multiple jobs making for a lower budget.

There is an upcoming movie called The Brutalist that comes up in One Month. It's distributed by A24. It stars Adrian Brody, an academy award winner. It's like 3 and a half hour long movie and it was made on Film (Very expensive nowadays). Apparently it required hundreds and hundreds of extras, costumes and set designs. It's kinda like There will be blood and Once Upon A Time in America. It cost 10 million, which is 240 million less than Red One

Saw it last night with my girlfriend and her 2 cousins at the theater. We thought it was just a basic and enjoyable film that, within its genre of course, scored a 7/10 from all 4 of us. Yes it feels a little bit like a MARVEL superhero flick meets X-mas film and at times they REALLY want to rub in certain elements (Dwayne Johnson's character being in charge of the E.L.F (*SIgh*), Chris Evans's character literally stealing candy from a baby to show of how "evil" he is at the start before he has his very predictable conversion to being good) etc. But the hate this film gets is a bit over the top and I feel a lot of people just hate on it because that's the popular opinion and it's easy to go with 'the biggest team' aka flock behaviour'. Yes, the budget of 250 million is bloated (if that is indeed the actual sum that was spend on it), despite having a few interesting ideas the story was quite standard, it will never win an Oscar for anything standing out etc. But graphically the film looks fine or even good most of the time, the acting is fine or even very solid (especially a touching scene between Dwayne Johnson and JK Simmons at the start of the film) and speaking of the overall package there are just far worse films out there.

I took my mom to go see this for her birthday yesterday and here were my thoughts about the film: -way too big a budget, could’ve been made for $150M and it wouldn’t have been worse -just a bit more effort and this is PG, now you’ve got a wide audience, and a shot at the parents desperate to get their kids to the theater (like myself) -the movie was cute, entertaining, but messy. They didn’t know who to write it for. -JK Simmons killed it, as always. He was charming and lovable as Santa.
