The fact that Godzilla Minus One was shot for 15-20 million basically exposes how ridiculous budgets for "Hollywood Productions" have gotten. Like... That awesome film was shot for less than The Rock's salary
@FlyingFocs2 ай бұрын
And the best part is that was the average cost for a Godzilla movie. Yeah, something like 10-15 million USD since about the 80s is what Toho gives to one of its more popular IPs. And people are fine with that.

I think the Hollywood budget also has to do with all of the additional stipulations from union workers and what the law requires based on what state/country the movie is shot. Filming in Japan can be just as expensive but usually the actresses/actors salary is very low and The people working behind the scenes do multiple jobs making for a lower budget.

Saw it last night with my girlfriend and her 2 cousins at the theater. We thought it was just a basic and enjoyable film that, within its genre of course, scored a 7/10 from all 4 of us. Yes it feels a little bit like a MARVEL superhero flick meets X-mas film and at times they REALLY want to rub in certain elements (Dwayne Johnson's character being in charge of the E.L.F (*SIgh*), Chris Evans's character literally stealing candy from a baby to show of how "evil" he is at the start before he has his very predictable conversion to being good) etc. But the hate this film gets is a bit over the top and I feel a lot of people just hate on it because that's the popular opinion and it's easy to go with 'the biggest team' aka flock behaviour'. Yes, the budget of 250 million is bloated (if that is indeed the actual sum that was spend on it), despite having a few interesting ideas the story was quite standard, it will never win an Oscar for anything standing out etc. But graphically the film looks fine or even good most of the time, the acting is fine or even very solid (especially a touching scene between Dwayne Johnson and JK Simmons at the start of the film) and speaking of the overall package there are just far worse films out there.

Read somewhere The Rock went to the IMAX theater where Oppenheimer premiered and said “Red One would look amazing in this!” I hope the people who went to that screening got their money’s worth.

The Rock is suffering the same situation that happened with Arnold and Sylvester. They become these big action stars and become super famous for a period of time. And then their time runs out and slowly fade. Arnold and Sylvester had a franchise that would let them stay relevant (Terminator and Rocky), but they never got the top billing in any other thing anymore. That’s what gonna happen to Dwayne.

Did anyone else feel like Chris Evans's character was written for Ryan Reynolds but he couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts? I thought it was a good movie, but I don’t necessarily disagree with your analysis of the film. The tone was a little all over the place, some of the cameos were really random, and the rock is the rock, but I felt that was overshadowed a bit and I didn’t notice it all that much. JK Simmons was great as always albeit in limited screentime, Chris Evan’s character was a dick but I liked his evolution throughout the movie. Not perfect by any means, but I’d give it a 7/10

That's the thing modern audiences don't care for original stories with original ideas because they're used to what they know. Like the Disney live action remakes and the amount of sequels from Pixar actual good movies that stand out will fail at the box office.

Hollywood is a money laundry machine for banks and funds. I have seen businesses make renovations that cost five times more than normal and three times more often. If small to medium-sized companies do that, Hollywood does that also 1000 times more.

I'm just going to say it, Dwyane Johnson isn't a box office draw. Not in terms of the $200+ million dollar budgets he likes to be part of. Jason Stathum at least knows better than to do high budget action films unless if it's with other people who can help bring in a larger audience. Seriously, look at every film from The Rock in the last six years and you'll find that his most profitable ones are the films where he's sharing the main spotlight with other actors.

Ppl complaining and bitxhing about this movie are just jaded close minded simpletons. This movie suprised the hell out of me in a good way. I thought it was going to be another kids movie. But its more so a edgy percy jackson type movie but instead of greek mythology its christmas mythology. I loved the use of real prosthetics for krampus and his goons. I loved the action, i loved the comedy sprinkled in. I loved the whole world building aspect of it.
