Solid advice on the layering of the soda water.

I've been thinking about how the Old Maid could be improved by the addition of elderflower liqueur, and then I came across this video, where the drink is essentially an Old Maid with elderflower liqueur and soda (and no mint). I made it according to your specs (seltzer and saline solution instead of club soda), and it was terrific. My wife didn't really like the Old Maid, even when it was made with Hendricks gin, but she did like this one. I think this cocktail counts as virtually guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.

We've got a similar cocktail at our venue: 40ml Hendricks gin 15ml St. Germain elderflower liquor 5ml ginger syrup 15ml lime juice dash of saline 4 cucumber slices, muddled Shake, strain into a highball with ice, top with ginger ale, garnish with cucumber ribbon and some cracked pepper on top. Super refreshing.

kiwis, starfruits, dragon fruit, apples, pears, cucumber, passionfruit, honeydew melon all would make great dehydrated garnishes (assuming each can dehydrate well)

It kinda seems like lime might be the more natural move here in order to amplify the "greenness" of the cucumber. Also I do really like getting back to the channel's roots. It really is those older videos I keep going back to because I use those as reference, and also inspiration as I try to work through them. I think there's at least one other very popular cocktail channel that's been around for a while (that will go unnamed here) which is well-served when it gets back to its roots.

I made your recipe last night and I liked it very much. My wife hated it so I got to drink both of them. She didn't like the cucumber in it at all. Will it be a standard in my cocktail repertoire? I don't know because it's a bit odd and based on my wife's reaction, not universally loved.

Fever Tree makes some delicious beverages. The Ginger Ale is awesome, in particular. The problem is local grocery stores now charge $7.79 for the 4-pack. They used to be $5.49. On military bases, I can buy the same 4-pack for $4.99, no sales tax (I’m a retired military officer). So, the local grocery stores are price gouging us!
